Burtess Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 (edited) Usually I use Portuguese sardines for ice fishing pike but I found these today at Fortinos... about 10-12" long..... can't wait to try them out!!! Anybody ever use the larger mackerels? Burt Edited December 7, 2014 by Burtess
OhioFisherman Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Years ago I read an article in a fishing magazine about the development of fish scents, as I recall it mentioned that research by Berkley indicated pike were partial to mackerel scent. http://www.in-fisherman.com/catfish/cut-mackerel-for-catfish/ http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~robmurray/pikebaitsa.htm
Burtess Posted December 6, 2014 Author Report Posted December 6, 2014 Yes, just a couple of #4 or #6 trebles about 2-3" apart on 30lb SS braided wire. Burt
John Bacon Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Yes, just a couple of #4 or #6 trebles about 2-3" apart on 30lb SS braided wire. Burt Is that legal? Trebles count as three hooks when not attached to an artificial lure. I have heard of people attached some spinner blades to make it an artificial lure. I am not sure whether the MNR has an official position on that. I am assuming that you are in Ontario.
Burtess Posted December 7, 2014 Author Report Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) This was changed quite a while back, a treble is considered 1 hook and you are allowed 4. Note that there is no longer a mention counting hook points or live bait. Burt Edited December 7, 2014 by Burtess
