LucG Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) Does anyone know how to oil and grease the gears on a Quantum Smoke Spinning reel? It spent 3 days in the rain and it seems to be sticking. I've searched google and youtube with no luck on this specific reel. Thanks Edited September 26, 2012 by LucG
LucG Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 I'm guessing you don't have the papers that came with the reel anymore? The only thing it came with was the schematics.
BillM Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 The only thing it came with was the schematics. That's what you want when you take it apart and grease/oil it.
LucG Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 That's what you want when you take it apart and grease/oil it. I was trying to avoid a complete dismantle. Several of my other reels have a single screw I can remove and add oil/grease through there...
LucG Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 Remember, grease on gears, oil in bearings. Getting it backwards is ugly! Thanks, I'll remember that!
LucG Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 If it's feeling sticky, you might need more than just a drop of oil in the service port. As for where that service port is - can;t help ya. I just looked at some pics online, but couldn't decipher anything. Yeah eh? I guess I’ll be getting intimate with the reel instead of the girlfriend tonight lol Are there any materials that I shouldnt use when trying to clean her up? Such as Q-Tips?
BillM Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 No WD-40 or anything that will break down the grease. Q-Tips are fine. Also don't over do it, a few drops is usually all that's needed.
Snowball Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 There is a video on YouTube that may help you: Regards, Snowball
