With a canoe, it is doable... but you are right.. off of Tyneside it is very shallow, and not worth it if you are trying to hit it from shore...

If you do some mud tromping you can easily catch some carp from shore in that area. Not really worth trying to fish for anything else in there though.

I walk my dog on the Tyneside trail almost every day.

 

The trail is 2km long.

 

Near the end there's a couple of spots where I always see TONS of carp dimpling and rolling.

 

If you're into carp I'd say go for it.

Pay the $5 and enter the park, you can walk %40 of the shoreline of the lake. I was there Saturday morning at 7 and landed 3 pike, two hammers, one good size and 3 bass, one GREAT smallie all before 10. Well worth the money.
