torco Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi, My family is looking to rent a cottage this summer in the Haliburton Area and there seems to be a lot of nice cottages on Kennisis Lake. How is the fishing on the lake? I haven't found out much other than that it has bass and trout. Any info is appreciated,
Jds63 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 My buddy has a cottage on Kennisis and we usually have no problem catching lots of bass, if you are looking for lakers in the summer I suggest trolling deep down the centre of the lake ... a fishfinder will really help locating the holes ... we have had some luck but not great for lakers.
torco Posted January 29, 2010 Author Report Posted January 29, 2010 As long as I can get into bass I am happy. Thanks!
turtle Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I have a cottage on the lake. Easy to catch numbers of small smallmouth bass, challenging to catch a good one. I concentrate on lake trout, you need the right gear to target them although the odd one is caught relatively shallow in the sunmmer. A large number of brook trout were stocked awhile back, however I've only caught 2 and that was several years ago. Its a beautiful lake (I'm biased) with lots of side trip opportunities into other lakes by canoe or kayak.
torco Posted January 29, 2010 Author Report Posted January 29, 2010 It looks great, we rented on Redstone last year and it sounds similar. I love the idea of getting a canoe into some more remote lakes. Hopefully we'll be able to get the week we want. Its tough for us to find the right cottage because it includes my inlaws as well as dogs.
singingdog Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 I agree....for bass, it's a good #s lake, but doesn't seem to produce good-sized smallies. Look at some of the connecting lakes for the brookies. They seem to move out of Kennisis and into some of the smaller lakes.
