livinisfishin Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Saw snowmobile tracks going from the public launch onto the bay...just wondering how thick it is.
irishfield Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 (edited) Deadly thick.. Wasn't a single ice hut out there by Hindson's yesterday and if even the "stupid" aren't out yet... it ain't safe ! Edited December 14, 2008 by irishfield
Tdel Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Amen to that. For some reason each year there always seems to be a nut out there who wants to run Penetang Bay at first ice. Tom
livinisfishin Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 checked last night this time saw foot prints going out from the boat launch 150feet or more, a friend and i drilled about four holes 5 feet apart, too dark to take a measurement so i used my middle finger and thumb to try and get an idea and it felt pretty thick , hopefully its black ice it was definately more then 4 inches in the holes..i definatley wont be going out til it freezes longer especially with the weather being so mild.
irishfield Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) I was down at the dock lunch today at 2PM.. there are some open holes in the bay straight out from the docks. If you don't know where the springs/current are in there... stay off it. Good thing is, is that the rain +9C this morning knocked ALL the snow down... so it's freezin up tight as I type.
