  1. Welcome back. Fitting photos. Thanks for sharing on these cold days.
  2. A "tip of the hat" to the master. Thanks for sharing your experiences, photos and most importantly, your positive attitude to life and conservation of our natural resources. In 2013, may we cross paths again on the water. Hopefully, this time, I'll be the one with the "fish-on". Alan
  3. Just awesome. The colors on those fish and the blueness of the water is simply amazing. I can only dream. Thanks for sharing. Alan
  4. What a great trip report! I loved the photography, especially the underwater shots.
  5. Very impressive, clear underwater shots. Would you mind sharing your camera settings and technique used to get such great shots. I get the "falling out of the tree" part.
  6. I just sat down this morning with a coffee and read this amazing trip. The Sutton has to be on the top of my list and the report just confirmed that. Big brook trout on top waters is the ultimate:thumbsup_anim:.
  7. Thanks for the nice compliments Drew. i admit I am so lucky to be able to fish the Nipigon frequently and so close to home, plus an understanding wife even though she says I pay more attention to my boat than her. The Nipigon system is an amazing fishery and I certainly don't feel imposed upon when you visit her. (the lake that is...not my wife). I gladly share the lake, her beauty and her fish with those who respect her as you so admirably do. Hope to see you there next year. Heading back there next week for one more fish and maybe run into grumpy Colin and Dan.
  8. I have been looking forward to this report since we met on the lake. Once again... awesome report! Impressed with the size of the fish that spot can produce. Wow! I'm already looking forward to next year. Alan
  9. Wow, Dan....that's fantastic. Unusual to see such blue water in our tea stained lakes. See you fishing. Alan
  10. Impressive fish and photography. The old Nip gave up some dandy pike and exceptional brookies. I think the lake has the potential to eventually break the almost 100 year of brook trout record. I hope to beat you to it. Alan
  11. I just sat down with a coffee and read a speck-tacular report. Love the combination of photos, video and narration. The brookie colours were impressive. Thanks for reminding me to leave the computer and go fishing for BiG Brook Trout. Alan
  12. Great report. Love the variety of species in the Nip.
  13. Thanks everyone for your comments. While the Brookie was a treat to catch, the brown was a real surprise. As Dan said, these fish are very rare up here, especially where I caught it. I have sent the photo off to the Nipigon biologist. Hopefully he can shed some light on this rarity.
  14. Finally got my brook trout fix with this nice sized fish. Almost 24" and 7 lbs. it was originally tagged in '08 at 16". Sure grew some! First time I ever caught one of these others however. Is it a brown? There are a few historical reports of browns in the Nipigon, but very, very rare.
  15. Been there...done that!!! When I was taking the hook out of fish for my buddy, the fish gave a kick and my "buddy" set the hook right into me. Apparently, he also forgot to debarb his hook. I had to poke the barbed end up through the skin then cut the shaft off with linesman pliers. Yes, it hurt.
  16. From the smiles on your faces, it sure looks like you had a great trip. Exciting!!!
  17. Great to see you guys got out on the water and into some fish. What a way to start the season! The smile on Colin's face tells it all. Ha Ha! Great report and a real boost to get my Brookie season started soon.
  18. Now those are some world class specs. Thanks for sharing and getting my juices flowing.
  19. Very impressive!!! You sure put in the hours and got amazing shots. I know it is not easy to take the underwater shots. I like your DSLR set-up, but a little worrying putting an expensive camera like that underwater. It is a pain to carry, yet the clarity is well worth it. Very nice job and I look forward to more. Alan
  20. I have been waiting all winter for a report like this. Really enjoyed this story. Beautiful brookies also. Alan
  21. has not set their status

  22. Well, once again you get the 2011 Oscar for best fishing report. The variety of fish species and range of trips is truly awesome. The Specs aren't bad either.
  23. Thanks for the great recap, it brings back fond memories, especially with the snow falling today. There is nothing like the excitement of hooking into one of those brookies. Creative camera shots. Thanks for the post and Happy New Year. Alan
  24. Now that is a top quality shot. What camera and lens did you use?
