  1. i am impressed by the diversity of your fishing. I also love the creative photo angles to get the different shots. Once again, outstanding!!!
  2. I have beeen waiting for this report since we met on the lake. "76 speckled trout with 11 over 6-pounds, 10 over 24 inches and every one of them released." That was a phenominal trip and proves "C&R" works. I'll send a PM about #5026.
  3. Either you are shrinking, or thats a big fish. I once caught a brook trout that big, but it got away...OK, I tried. I'm still waiting for your full report on your last trip up here.
  4. Enjoy the race and don't take your spinning rod to work.
  5. Nice fish. Missed you guys by about a half a day. Thank goodness!!! Ha Ha. We also found the fishing great this year, once you got through the wind, rain and waves. Glad you had a successful end to the brook trout season. Now we have a lot of time to plan for next year.
  6. Another great read and super photos. Got to admit...they are the best. That is stuff dreams are made of. Thanks for sharing!!!
  7. This poor fish still had enough left in it to hit a fly not long after it had been attacked itself. My guess is an otter as the teeth marks suggest on the bottom of the fish. The other side of the fish had another round gash with a few nail holes in its side with lots of bruising. Nature's "preditor/prey" relationship.
  8. Great catch! Two quality fish. Doesn't get any better. Congrats.
  9. Great report Dan. You go to work to see brook trout...I'll go fishing for them. Looking forward to the update. Hope to see you in the next few weeks then its bye-bye.
  10. Enjoyed reading the report and always amazed at the variety of fishing opportunities here in the north. Glad you had a great trip.
  11. Great report and photos Dan. Glad you guys had such a successful trip, especially Dan M. Those are some serious fish, especially when they follow to the boat like that. It has to be the ultimate for me. Maybe see you there in a few weeks. Alan
  12. Hi Drew: These reports remain my favourite, not because of the brookies as you might suspect, but rather the way you tell the story. It does take a lot of time to write a story in such a way to make the reader feel like they are part of the trip and photos also are taken to show the emotions of the experience. Taking your daughter now will reap the benefits later in life. It has meaning to me as I just got back from a week fishing with my daughters. I started taking them when they were 6 monthsd old and this year represents the 33rd straight year of fishng together. Great bonding time. Send me a PM when you plan on showing up here in the fall and maybe this year we'll actually connect. Once again, a great report!!! Alan
  13. These fish follow a 4 year cycle based on my Cn'R data. This is the year of the bigger fish and the resurgence of the little guys. There have been some "big boys" over 22" this year, but in the river, the length of the fish is only one factor. The other is girth. Some fish have 14-16" girths. In the lake they are longer but not as "football" shaped.
  14. Here are a few shots of my last trip for the season. All caught on the fly despite the high, fast water we have this year. Now that the water is warming up and I'm off fishing other species, I'll wait till the fall to chase these gems again.
  15. Always look forward to your reports. Great trips and photography. The jigs happen to catch my eye. I wonder why???
  16. Wow, 30 specks in a day is is fantastic. Did you use dynamite? I can smell the deep fryer now. Thanks.
  17. It was a real blast getting out and catching a few on some streamers. We have had a lot water up here this spring so the lakes and rivers are very high. Heading back there again tomorrow. Its a tough job, but somebody has to do it.
  18. I finally got out for my first brook trout of the season. I felt like an alcoholic anxious for a drink, but all the tension disappeared after the first few hook-ups. All on the fly too!
  19. My favorite old time video. My grandmother worked as a cook at the Nepigon Lodge featured in the video around 1919. Great reminder of a bygone era. Brookies just around the corner.
  20. Whether its Global warming, seasonal differences or some other weather phenomenon, this year is significantly different than last year. The first photo was taken last year on April 18th. All the lakes and rivers had been open since mid March and this fish marked the impending end to last year's steelhead run. The second photo was taken today! There is still 3 feet of ice on the lakes and no rivers are running more than a trickle. It has been a long winter....I need to get fishing!!!
  21. Your report is killing me! I loved it for the anticipation of getting a few steelhead up north, but the rivers are still frozen and the slow melt is killing me. As usual, I realy like the photography. Keep the reports coming...I enjoy the frustration. Ha,ha.
  22. I know exactly what you talk about as I have been in his shop many times. I used to buy some jig flies for the Nipigon. He always has a story to tell. He will be missed.
  23. Great report...it got me dream'n about the upcoming syteelhead season. Thanks!
  24. Forgot the video http://youtu.be/SGnqDMbzi-k
  25. Well its February and -34 this morning so time to share my Brook Trout season for 2012. For the past 9 years I have been tagging brook trout as part of the co-operative angler program for the MNR to study the health of the brook trout population. Analysis of the combined data by biologists indicates the population is stable and that 95% of all anglers report using varying degrees of “catch and release”. For those of you who have nothing better to do these cold days, here is a link to the document that looks at the rehabilitation of the brook trout population for the past 5 years. http://www.thegreaterlakesuperiorfoundation.org/pdf/2011CoasterWorkshopProceedingsFINAL.pdf I hope you enjoy the sampling of photos and short video about my 2012 season.
