No way, the drag isn't strong enough. A 30lb will tear it to shreads. It is a sweet reel though, I have 6 Daiwas and this one out performs them all. I like the Daiwa reels so much, I bought 3 carp reels, from the UK. Anyways, I recommend the Advantage, Daniel

"HI, MY NAME IS DANIEL, AND I AM HIGHLY ADDICTED" Went shopping yesterday and spent my life savings, LOL. I went to LeBaron, bought a 6 of new SRO frogs, tube weight-rattles, some palstics, jigs and so on.... I then went to Fishing Depot (I personally love this store) and bought a bunch of buzzbaits, spinner baits, and my new born, a Daiwa 153HSTLA super tuned, swept handle and all. I recomend this baitcaster to anyone.

Let me start the Ontario prints a great, legible regulations. My problem is no one reads them!! There are sooooo many questions, that make me think why even print it. Stupid questions like, how many can I keep, when does pike opener open, what is the slot size for walleye, can I keep more than one musky and on, and on, and on. Why ask if it is all in detail in the regs. Am I the only one that see this. Just my 2c

Stays clear. You could add the blue or green

Go to a trout pond there is a liquid they add to the water that clears up the weeds. Sorry can't remeber the name of the stuff. It does not harm the fish in any way. Daniel

Thanks for the advice guys. Where can I get the salty?

I am going to Rice lake on Sunday. I always jig for walleye when I go there. This time I want to do some light trolling with hard baits. I am using a bow mount trolling motor, so I will need a raised roder holder or clamp on for the front and 2 screw in for the back, what do you recomend and where can I get them? I have a 7' heavy action rod and an Abu 5500 C4, will that be ok? Lastley should I use a planner board and will my rod handle that, if not what do you suggest? Sorry for all the question, it's my first time trolling Thank you

Ya, got some price quotes today, WOW!!! I called the company that makes the bag, I will have a replacement early next week, no questions asked and no charge to me. For the broken bag, I think I will add some velcro instead of the zipper, and use it as a second bait bag. I won't toss it, costs $150. Thanks for the advice guys, its appriciated. Daniel OCH

I have a canvas bait bag, I want to change the 4 zippers (top, side and 2 fronts) to heavy duty zippers. Does anyone do this type of work? If so, what would this type of work cost? Thank you, Daniel OCH

Used to be able to get them in TO, but like Nash, they pulled out of the North American market. There is no market here as they say. I actually gave 3 bags of the dynamite pellets away to a newbie carper. I purchased them on www.ebay.co.uk. Hope this helps, Daniel OCH Ontario Carp Hunters will be at Bayfront park on June, 28. If you see us there feel free to come up to us, we have some hand outs. If anyone wants some of my own custom ground bait, give me shout, free by the way.

You can get away with it, but the 1oz won't set the hook as good as you would like. I use 1 1/2oz, penetration is decent, but not great. also, when you set the hook on a running fish, don't bass it, you will rip the mouth and lose the fish. I set the hook in a steady sweep up motion. I am thinking of selling a brand new D.A.M carp rod with sleeve, and possibley an okuma runner reel w/2 spools, one braid the other mono. If anyone is interested. Daniel OCH

Since carping is getting some room on this board, I would like to explain some carp care. 1 - Gilling the carp is not a great way of holding them, these fish ar heavy and very delicate. Cradle them. 2 - Bleeding around the mouth, release the fish ASAP. 3 - Try not to weight the carp by the gill plate, like I said before it's delicate. 4 - Carp scales come off fairley easily, try to place the carp on grass or a carp landing mat*. Placing them on rocks and gravel will injure the fish. The contest is at http://community.ontariocarphunters.com Lets see the stories!! Daniel OCH

It will improve the hook ups, as the hook turns in the mouth, which makes it harder to spit out. Even with all the stuff I use, I miss fish. Try the hair rig, and take a look at the bolt rig (deadly) here http://boltinline.ontariocarphunters.com/, bolt rig will improve hook up, but without a runner reel, keep you hand on the rod. Any other Q's feel free to PM me. Daniel OCH

The hair rig is actually designed to turn in the mouth, the weight is what sets it in. That is the bolt rig, and to use it effectively you use a min of 2oz lead, with the swivel jammed into the lead. It's all here http://boltinline.ontariocarphunters.com/ Daniel OCH

There is only one place to get Big Bob's, it is exclusive to Fishing World. Once you use this flavoured corn you won't go back. 3 of us caught over 130 carp in 14hrs on Big Bob's corn alone. I have all 13 flavours and caught multiple fish on each one. If you want to see carp picture caught on Big Bob's go to http://photos.ontariocarphunters.com/ all the albums that say Dover, we only used Big Bob's corn and ground bait. Fishing world does sell boilies made by D.A.M and royal carp. If you want additional info feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and check out www.ontariocarphunters.com, We have give aways on the bank to promote carp fishing, if you see us (wearing our OCH vest) don't hesitate. 2 ways. 1. pressure cooker. Put 1/4 corn in the cooker and 3/4 water and sugar. When the valve pops, let it boil for 30mins, no more. Run it under cold water till the lock releases and put it in a bucket with the boiled water. 2. Let corn soak for 24hrs in water, boil for 1-2hrs, don't let it crack open. Place in bucket with boiled/flavored water. Done. 3. Big Bob's corn at Fishing World, great bait for right on the hook. Mussel and banana work great in Dover. 4. Use a hair rig http://hairrig.ontariocarphunters.com/ Maize is hard to use as a bait right on the hook. But if you follow on of these steps, you will be ok. Hope this helps Daniel OCH
