Yep. Tony's right. You'll never be able to do anything to change it either. Went steelheading on the weekend and got there before most. My buddy went back to the car to re-tie his line before sunup and I thought I heard him come back and walk up behind me until my other buddy asked where he was. Another guy had just walked up within 2 feet of me and was just waiting to cast. After my friend asked where the other guy was I just turned around looked at the guy and said I thought that was him. He gave a little chuckle then moved away from me. But there is usually no consideration in these situations. Everybody thinks that all the fish are sitting in a 20 foot stretch of the river so it fills up fast.

I'd much rather be doing something fishing related every day of my life than an office job or something else. I'm the type of guy who likes to be busy most of the time anyways. I'm in school to become a forestry technician but dropped that idea when this opportunity came along for me. I still have my diploma to fall back on if it doens't work out for me though. I guess that would be a good bit of advice too. Get qualifications for doing an alternate job just incase you don't like it as much as you thought you would. But other than that if you are that passionate go for it. ATF

Yeah ccmt. I love that. I had my buddy out for his first time this weekend and that's what I told him. THe best part is when the float goes down. After that it's all a blur! I'll have a pic of a 32 inch musky that I got about a month ago through the ice as well whenever he gets around to sending it to me.

You bet Ben. I love teching guys to steelhead and refine their technique. It's great to see a guy with a nice steelie on the end of his line for the first time when you've watched his progression from not knowing anything to getting into his first. That's more exciting for me than getting into them myself.

If you wanna fish for a living start looking for a job. also practice your techniques because you have to be good to fish for a living. I have wanted to do it since I was about 3 years old and finally got my opportunity this year to be a guest services/guide person at a very reputable lodge. Hopefully the beginning of the rest of my life fishing and I can't wait. ATF

Got out to my fav trib on saturday early. Braved the snow and bad driving cons to try and get into some steel. Went to my spot and found what looked like ice close to shore so I decided to move to another spot. Lots of slush around but managed to fish at my second spot. I was a bit rusty as I missed my first fish. Second bite and I got the hook into this one. A nice 2 lb fish. Then about 5 mins later the float starts doing a dance. Set the hook and land a nice 5 lb male. Moved down to another hole and 1st drift hook into about an 8 lber who promptly snapped my line after jumping and giving me a nice look. Pretty good first day. I'll post the pics when my buddy e-mails them to me. ATF

Another one for bacon. Cut your filets into chunks and wrap with bacon. Marinate for 30 mins or so in zesty italien dressing, if you're using a BBQ I'd put tinfoil on the grill. cook till bacon is crispy then dip in chicken and rib sauce. Some of the best fish I have ever had. ATF

Way to go CCMT. Snapped lines are a part of steelheading. I know from experience! ) Just keep at her man the more you go out the better you will get. That's how I started. Fully self taught. Trial and error works well. ATF

there should be a new national holiday for aunts

Nice work CC. Great looking fish and good job getting rid of that lamprey. YOu seem to be helping the steelie population more than hurting it like others have said. Keep it up man. ATF -
That is a cool vid. I think that's an Atlantic though.

Yeah. Those guys are just jealous. Like CCMT said even new steelheaders know that when the ice is gone it's time to go fishing. Spots are gonna be crowded. There's not much you can do about it and who really cares? In my opinion the race to the spot is almost half the excitement of the fishing trip and if you don't get your spot there's always more water to be fished. So like everyone else said there are a lot of fish out there for everyone so go give her a shot.

What a day. Nice fish man. I can't wait to get into them like that.

Perch fishing continues to be excellent off Beaverton - Pics!
Josh Rogers replied to Slayingm's topic in General Discussion
The man said light line 2 lb test. I would go with what he said. I was out at beaverton and using 4 lb test and the other guys that were with me were using 6 and 10 and I caught fish at a rate of at least 2 to 1 on both of them put together. Plus when a guy has as many posts on here with good catches as Greg does I wouldn't question what he's saying. That's why he gets paid to take people fishing, cause he knows what he's talking about. I agree with largemouth in a sense too. ...and remember we love pictures! That's all most guys on this site are looking for. It sorta ticks me off when I post a report and about 5 guys say where's the pictures? where's the pictures? Anyways that's all I have to say on that subject. This is definately a good site to get some fishing info though. I've got lots of tips from the lads and ladies on here. Keep up the good work everyone. ATF

Thanks guys might give her a go on the weekend. I'll post how I made out and the conditions and whatnot.

Thanks Fellas. Anybody know if the Ganny has opened up yet?

Hey everyone. This will be my second spring fishing for steelies in the tribs. I just had a question for the steelhead experts out there. How long do you wait to hit the tribs after a melt? The old ice fishing just isn't cutting it for me and I can't wait to get into some steel. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks all ATF

Hey fellas I was just wondering with these warm temps coming, how long do you guys wait after a melt to hit the tribs for steelies? Thanks guys.

Don't rely on the bait shop in Bridgenorth. I have been there multiple times this year and have yet to be able to buy minnows from them. They were out for over a week earlier in the season. I haven't been back since then.
-
You would wonder how a fish like that could swim around. That's one giant carp. Zib could you post the link to the video of the guy catching it?
-
Man that's intense! That fish was huge! Just imagine the one that ripped it apart like that!

Hey fellas, Made the trip down to the bog yesterday, figured I might as well give it another try after getting skunked there last year. I talked to the guy at the causeway bait shop and he says that guys are cacthing a good number of 'eyes. Got on the ice and talked to a local he said the bite was slow yesterday, and from what I experienced it was, except for about a 5 minute flurry of 2 fish. About an hour after we got there my buddy hooked into something big. Snapped him off right away. figured it was a musky. Then nothin for about 1.5-2 hours. Had one bite that stole my minnow then nothin again. Finally at about 5:15 hook into a small eye about 15 inches. Just got him onto the ice and another minnow on my williams and jigging and wham another fish. Felt like a good one so I was getting pretty excited. after about a 5 minute tussel a 3 lb musky comes up through the hole. Very surprised to catch him as I was only using a half inch williams and 1.5 inch minnows. Fun none the less though. Oh by the way the musky that I caught was pretty silver is that the norm for Scugog? ATF

Stones has always had minnows when I went there. They are right off highway 28. You'll see the sign. Also I was at my local bait shop yesterday and asked them if their minnows were good to go north and they told me they get their minnows from the north so... So the baitshop at the chemong lake causeway also has minnows for sale.
-
I've heard there was about 2 inches on Moira at the beginning of the week.
-
Charlied try going to stones live bait half way between burleigh falls and apsley. He usually has a huge selection of sizes and types of minnows.
