  1. No, we'll be staying at Spruce Shilling Camp. Thanks for the advice.
  2. Hi there, I'm going up to Shining Tree next week for a couple of days of ice fishing. I'm going to be based near West Shining Tree Lake. Are there any good walleye lakes in that area? I've heard mixed things (some say it's fished out, others say it's a dream). I was wondering if anyone had any experience in that area. My friends and I have snowmobiles, so we are pretty mobile. We usually go up to Abitibi, but we couldn't get any lodging. If anyone wants a good place to ice fish, Abitibi is it. But anyway, has anyone here ever ice fished in Shining Tree? I'm not looking for any specific spots, but if anyone could shoot me a PM with some info it'd be much appreciated.
  3. It is true. This has been out for a while now. It was all over the news. http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Fake+Montreal+eagle+video+helping+fund+scholarship+deserving/7879169/story.htmlhttp://www.vancouversun.com/business/Fake+Montreal+eagle+video+helping+fund+scholarship+deserving/7879169/story.html
  4. Actually I just re-read it and you can sell sharks in Ontario, but not local species of fish . Still a cool story
  5. How long do you think until he gets a fine for selling the shark? http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1305232--toronto-man-fianceed-out-of-mounted-shark-finds-new-home-for-grandpa-s-catch-online
  6. That's really weird. When I did my G a few years ago I specifically asked my instructor (after I had already turned on the red), and she said it was fine.
  7. I went yesterday. If you already know what you want to buy the 15% off works, but you won't find any fantastic deals on any nice to have items.
  8. So is there no way to legally get a stuffed bear, deer, fish, etc. without killing it yourself? That seems wrong.
  9. I've been looking at buying a new ice suit for the coming season. I found sportsmansguide.ca through a google search. The prices seem right and gear seems good, but I was wondering if you guys knew of a Canadian company (as I'd rather support them). I checked out the other thread on Canadian manufacturers, but couldn't find what I was looking for.
  10. My comment wasn't directed at people who don't have hybrids or hybrids don't work for them (I know it certainly wouldn't work for me), it's directed at people who refuse to realize this is likely the direction cars are going and criticize the people the early adopters.
  11. Fair enough, but they aren't designed to meet the needs of everyone. That's why you can't just walk into a dealership and buy a Nissan Leaf, you have to apply. You don't have to buy a hybrid/electric vehicle, but there is no need to criticize those whose lifestyle it fits and are willing to be an early adopter and show there is a market for such technology. The more people that buy into it now, the more funding is put into it and one day it may fit your needs. It's the same as any technology.
  12. I have a 3 year card as well that says "3 years FISHING " on the back, but it does not indicate whether it is a conservation or sport licence. So are you guys sure you don't have to keep the yellow piece of paper?
  13. How long does it take for the salties to be ready? Just a few days or 3 weeks? Thanks for the recipe, I'm definitely going to try it out!
  14. Thanks for the advice on the rocks, we decided it was better to not even take a boat. We ended up getting a guide who knew all about shore fishing. Caught lots of walleye and catfish (dirty buggers). pike were big too up there. The fish had a strange white colouration to them. Caught everything on a pickerel rig, the guide said all of the lures and crankbaits we bought wouldn't help. Anyway if anyone is ever up near the Matheson area, I would definitely recommend Lake Abitibi. The Black River was a bust, just a few catfish.
  15. I was wondering if anybody had any info about the fishing on Lake Abitibi or any of the surrounding bodies of water like the Black River? (I have heard rumors that black river produces many pickerel) I am part of a group of fishermen heading up north near Matheson from next Tuesday for about a week. We are hoping to get into some spring pickerel and northerns. Can anyone provide some tips, tricks, recommended baits or perhaps good areas to try to fish while in the area? We are not restricted only to Lake Abitibi and are able to get into some of the smaller back lakes if anyone can recommend any. Thanks for the help!
