Mons lake outpost. After speaking to the outfitter I will pass on this idea. He mentioned that we should expect no problem catching our limit of walleye. There are many other locations where we should expect to exceed our daily limit. We would release all fish except the ones we eat, we just would prefer to get into numbers not "work" to get our limit. I will keep searching, it's part of the fun.

Absolute travesty/the ugliness of mankind
wantabigone replied to muskymatt's topic in General Discussion
The biggest travesty is that people continue to buy tusks as trinkets or medicines. If no one were to buy tusk products there would be no market. No market-no poaching. Unfortunately this will never stop until it is too late. -
I know that poaching is a concern MUSKY OR SPECS. To be clear, I am not complaining about being stopped and checked- I am complaining on the cost of having been stopped and checked. Check my party out when I arrive at the float plane operator. Just as effective and much more cost effective.

Hey righteous one... You wrote "They are on a milk run looking for violations that range from over harvest to shoreline alteration to hunting/netting" Just sayin' Just poking fun at you now. Guess I read just fine. I am not feeling persecuted - as I clearly stated I am of the opinion that using a float plane to monitor remote lake overharvesting is a waste of money. It would be better to station outside of the float plane operators site and monitor the outgoing parties as they load up their vehicles. Much cheaper.

They were not concerned about the habitat at all- they were only targetting fisherman on the lake. If they were concerned about the habitat as you mentioned then they would not have motored around the lake in their plane going to each boat and checking if we had any fish in our posession and then checking the fridge and freezer for fish. This lengthy stop had NOTHING at all to do with habitat concern. (by habitat I am referring to shoreline reshaping etc).

I just wanted to post how dissappointed I am with the way the MNR is being run. I personally had an experience this year on a fly-in lake that on our last day the MNR flew into the lake to check on our possession limits. Really? That is the most productive way to spend our tax dollars (and licensing fees)? The cost of renting the plane, pilot, fuel and 3 officers. This is all to ensure that we and others on these lakes are not "overfishing" these lakes. Seriously? If they want to ensure those that do flyins are not keeping more than their limits then park on the logging roads outside of the float plane operators and check the vehicles as they leave or at the float plane location itself. Just an FYI- we were fine with our limits. This is just a ridiculous way to spend our money. These guys just want to enjoy a week in the bush for free doing some fishing of their own and stopping along the way at some lakes to justify what they are doing. I have seen at least one other post stating that they too had MNR visit them by float plane. This was at a different time of year- what a waste of money. Then we have a post that a fish ladder was built but it was not built to accomodate larger fish. (I assume chinook) Really? The MNR decides to build a fish ladder but only designs it to fit certain fish? Another example of foolish financial decisions. I am sure the officers are doing their best and are likely frustrated as well but upper amangement is doing a terrible job. All in my opinion.

Good luck as Kesagami

Well, unfortunately mother nature conspired to keep us out of Richter this year. Due to weather conditions Eddie has been unable to have the camp ready for our June 15th departure. Here's hoping everyone has a good season this year with great new memories and experiences.

Pretty much any tackle store will take your order for any quantity and you can pick up the day before you leave. We will order anywhere from 300-500 for a trip and we get them in a very nice tightly packed styrofoam container. Try a local tackle store next time. BTW-which lake are you fishing out of Nakina? Have a great trip!

Thanks for the heads up. I am sure we will be having alot of fun with the numbers. I certainly hope I can locate some of the bigger pike. Tight lines all

Thanks hoops... 42" is a mighty fine pike in my books. Could you PM me on where abouts you found the bigger pike? I hear there is a weedy section west of the cabin. Is this an area you found the bigger pike? I really am itching for June to get here.

It sounds like a fun lake to fish Hoop. It is why we decided on this lake. Did you guys look for big pike? If so - any luck?

Boaters test too easy? Sort of Fishing
wantabigone replied to DundasSteelheader's topic in General Discussion
The boater exam is strictly a cash grab-nothing more. It has nothing to do with safety. -
In your scenraio, no. However, if someone for instance on this board were to ask in a PM about a spot I would gladly share. I also would share to a person I was talking to who enjoyed fishing. (assuming they believed in catch and release - only one or two for eating) This is easy for my to say as all my honey holes are on fly-in lakes!

So then come with us Mike and then you will have no more regrets!

Hello all. Are there any individual fishermen out there that would like to join our group of 3 at Richter lake for walleye? Pike too! We are a group of low key fishermen, (we do not wake at the break of dawn to fish and fish until the sun sets), Not hard drinkers, aged 80, 70ish and 45. If anyone in interested we are located in Toronto, driving to Nakina the third week of June. Leaving June14th and likely back in Toronto June 23rd. If interested send me a PM!

older fly-in report- The Ogoki Pokey
wantabigone replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
I too have been to John's cabin. The nice thing for him is he will let a group of 2 into his camp. Many places will only accept a group of 4. This was the first place we managed a 100+ fish day-all right in front of the cabin after running around the entire lake for a week. His cabins are top notch (for an outpost) and he even has a sauna! The only disappointing thing part for the 2 trips I took there was our inability to find big pike. We actually did catch one pike over 20 pounds fishing for walleye. PM me as well if you want to discuss anything. -
Karma... it is a three way street correct?

My prayers to your daughter and family. Watch lots of funny movies - laughter is the best medicine. -
I thought I would let and die hard ice fisherman know of an outfitter I have been to that offers ice fishing. http://www.ogokilakeoutfitters.com/ The cabin is really top notch for an outpost and half the adventure would be getting there in this case. (snowmobile) I doubt anyone has taken Ritch up on his offer. I just figured I would post this in case anyone would be interested.
