  1. How about paying into it for 35 years and collecting zero. Shouldn't I get some tax break for being lucky?

Haha maybe thats a good idea.

If I have to pay I still wish it was a deduction. How does it make any sense for those that work hard, but find themselves on ei for 52 weeks, then get dinged with a big tax bill?

Then again I guess I can tax myself in preperation for that big tax bill lol

  2.

The EI portion of our taxes paid is very low considering how much money you can receive while on EI. The money you received for those 8 months was likely far greater than what you paid into EI that year. Why complain about having to give some free money back?

I'll use construction workers as an example as I know quite a few people in the industry and my numbers will be in the ballpark...

If someone makes around $40k they'll pay around $1k in EI taxes that season. For paying only $1,000 in Employment Insurance that worker will be entitled to the maximum rate of $525 every week or a "take home" check of $1,000 every two weeks. Multiply that by 26 weeks and that measly $1,000 in EI premiums results in $13,000 after taxes.

Why on earth wouldn't someone who receives EI be expected to pay some back?

The numbers may be right if you actually sit and crunch them.

I was venting more then anything.

Just seems weird I suppose, at least to me. That ive paid in over 20 years and collected a total of 11 months of ei

  3.

Don't know who told you there was a season last year, but find them and give them a smack. I just found the 2014 regulations in the back of my car, and FMZ 5 says bass were open all year. There were limits, under a sport license you could only take 4, conservation license 2, and they had to be less than 35cm, and from January 1 to June 30. At all other times they appear to be unregulated.

My gawd i had the book.

Not sure where i got that from???

  4. Local, Unmarked/ghost Ford Escape. Pulled up beside me, looked at me, slowed signaled over and on came the cherries.

This is just a theory, my brother suggested. He was likely using the traffic act, as a means to check my vehicle or me for illegal scents. As soon as he approached the window he stuck his head in and took a whiff, As mentioned in the other thread I was eating a chicken burger. All he got was the smell of wendy's.

Glad it worked out for you!

I may be wrong bit isnt eating while driving illegal as well? Distracted driving or whatever they call the 7 billion laws we have to follow

  5. Man some of the lakes we swim in have huge snapping turtles. Always kinda been a fear of mine to lose a toe or worse lol.

As a child i found a shell up on the beach when we were camping. I though wow that would be awesome to bring home!

Turned out hornets thought it would be awesome to make INTO a home!

    Not cool hornets, not cool

  6. Ive had snapping turtle as well.

Had good flavor but boy it coulda been prepped/cooked better. Toughest meat ever lol

Here in NWO they get hyyyuge!!! Ive seen some that musta been 50-60lbs

  7. Very nice! I, like you grew up with this. It is a staple around here.

We would normally serve with boiled potatoes as well. But I had some mashed left over from the previous night, so I used them instead ( I hate to dispose of food I see $$$ signs) if we don't eat it I will give it to our dog versus throwing it out.

Sometimes he eats better then we do!

Thanks for ideas, every euro family has their version of this dish as you well know :)

    G

Lol thats our dogs too gerrit???

  8. What if what BillM said was not done in public but found out about later? Same story?

Either way I like what Canuck2fan said about the Dr being tied to the future outcomes if there are any.

Yeah Old Ironmaker those "pams" are not the fun one's to hang out with. They too can kill someone or bring them to the end of their rope...

"Pams" dont work that way. I think your looking for SSRI's

  9. back to m2b2: I can't do cut and paste, but google it. I think they first called it a copolymer line, now they are calling at a molecular polymer line or similar. The (old style) line casts very well and is very abrasion resistant, even in small diameter/light line.

    Doug

    Hmmm, interesting. Made by berkley.

I think Ill stick to braid, abrasion resistance isnt up to high on my list(unless the somehow make nanofil abrasion resistant with affecting casting distance

  11. What sucks is when you're on long term disability at 60% of your income base (as of 4 years ago) and then it's still taxable because your Union was too greedy and made the employer pay the LTD premium portion and not allowing the employee to do so on their own behalf (which would have made it tax free). When all is said and done, Jen only gets about 45% of her pay. It JUST covers her apartment and hydro bill in the city.

    Talk about bullcrap

  12. You mean back when there was only one phone in the house and it was mounted to the wall in the kitchen? I guess every generation grows up in the "different world" then their parents but I think it is accelerating exponentially right now.

    That is undeniable.

Social media etc are forming thoughts/opinions at an age never seen before. Schools are teaching things we never seen before.

Good or bad? No idea. I personally dont like it.

Thats why we spend our time cooking, out in nature, fishing, beading etc.

I hate to say it, but when my grandmothers passed, the whole family dynamic changed.

We try to be more "traditional", but things still creep in and we debate. Thats a great thing to do with your family.

For better or for worse, we as parents can only do our best to educate our children before they embark on their own paths.

Im 35 and almost grey already. Its stressful. But I love my family and thats all you can really do.

Educate, put your foot down when needed, show alot of love and compassion, support their goals and desires, and just hope at the end of the day they still love you lol.

Being a parent is a blessing and a curse. It will show you the best and worst in yourself. Try you at every corner, make you cry, make you proud, make you question everything.

    It'll drive you crazy...

I never wanted kids, now I have 6. The first changed my mind drastically. I wouldnt change it for anything.

One day when I pass, id be happy just to know my kids said" he was a loving and supportive dad"
