NF - Fishing show killed TV, any area repair guys?
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thx for the replies guys, sucks as not a simple visual repair. Will give Branko a call, again thx. -
Sorry for the title, kinda click bait. Went to watch some weekend TV fishing and darn 50" LCD TV won't turn on! Its a cheap Sanyo only a couple years old and was working fine and hate the idea of chucking a whole TV due to 1 blown cap or chip... Went thru the youtube trying to troubleshoot but I'm a hack electronic guy at best. Anyone in the Hamilton area do repairs that will end up under the price of a new unit? Costco has 55" 4K cheapies in the $500 range so not sure its even feasible to repair 3 yr old unit...

Last week bought a axle from Nandoo Trailers in Hamilton $225. I have a tandem trailer and took me 30 mins to replace old one. Not a mechanic, just removed tires, ubolts and put axle on. Lined up with center bolt on springs and put new ubolts on, done.

Was in my brother-In-laws truck and it has all the bells and whistles. The radio caught my eye as it had a touch screen with perfect cell phone integration. Any chance of grabbing a cheap amazon radio for easy replacement? Not interested in the actually radio/stereo part and don't need 10,000W volume but the hands free cell phone use would be great. The electronics don't scare me its the stupid incompatible loom connectors that need "McGyvering"... I see a ton of models on Amazon or CrappyTire etc. but again compatible looms would be nice. Yes I could follow wire diagrams to make any unit work but.... I'd rather be fishing. Anyone know of a cheap model and connector package that would do the job for a Caravan 2012? Any good? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-car-audio-gps/hamilton/dodge-radio-stereo/1358257737?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Overall very poor weekend. Finished with around 6 wally and ONLY 1 pike over the weekend. Our usual ratio is 4 pike 1 Wally... We put in a ton of hours and caught maybe 10 small pike to toss back. Caught 2 nice 2-3 lbs OOS bass returned safely... 2nd year in a row with low pike numbers compared with years past. Years past we would bring in a stringer of solid pike but none to be seen now. The lake doesn't seem to see high pressure so don't think we fished it out considering the "veterans" usually stick to the Walleye. This video shows are basic hunting grounds: (Not my video)

advice on glasstop stove. coil not working
Raycaster replied to huzzsaba's topic in General Discussion
Had a Pyrex measuring glass fall from a overhead cupboard and break right thru the glass top revealing the burner element. Had an extended warranty at Home Depot that informed me I was SOL. The glass top contained all elements as 1 unit $400, installed myself avoiding the $200 service fee. Did I mention the stove was 3 months old? -
I will be on the lake by noon Friday and will report back. Got to freshen up on the regs... Wallys 15.7 - 19.7"? Always get confused with Balsam...

My wife asked for a new fitbit so I purchased a new one at Sail for $199. Same cost at Bestbuy and I had a few leftover giftcards so went to the Burlington Sail store. I was quickly informed at the electronic counter that electronic sales are FINAL. Didn't foresee a problem so went to cashier where I was informed 2 more times the sale was FINAL. OK, no problem I thought even though I don't think Bestbuy/Staples adhere to these rules... Anyways. When my wife opened the gift it was immediately evident this was a "USED" item. Package taping basically fell off and the packaging was all over the place and the manual was ripped! My wife said don't worry about it as long as it works and it did. I wasn't impressed due to the supposed "FINAL" rule that Sail adheres to so I emailed customer service. Guess what? Daily emails from Sail with their latest SALES but no reply from customer service. Not really sure what to expect from customer service but some explanation would be nice. Is it even LEGAL to resell a used/returned item without refurbishing or marking the item a returned etc?

Boat project looking for cable gland connectors
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Perfect, Thank you. -
I have a small water project that needs a cable gland connector for passing through A/V cables. Anyone have an idea where they are sold in the Hamilton area? Home Depot, lowes and CrappyTire are no's so far. Thanks.

Heading up for yearly boys trip on the 24th, BASS not in season so Pike and Wally hunting only. Been going for years and have great success but no musky or even rumors... Pulled out some decent sized fish for sure and the last few years have seen a big hike in baby pike so expecting their numbers to increase. Spend a day trolling on Lake St. Clair to take care of your musky itch!

Navionic apps keep pushing the wrong way $$$$$
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
I know Vexilar is wifi supported also. The Wi-Fish unit is $299 CAD or cheaper, not sure. I wouldn't doubt there are other brands but my wallet puckers up after $500. Alot of brands are Live Sonar compatible but not sure about the 2d/3d dislpay. -

Raymarine actually has a cheap "headless" unit with no display allowing you to transmit the data to several devices. The next time someone on the boat away from the fishfinder asks "how deep is it" just tell them to load the app on their phone! You could also just pimp out and put a 70" smart tv onboard for display! The Wi-FISH supported units have chirp/side sonar but not the latest bells and whistles if you need them. Probably all Brands will go this way with the latest tech to follow. -
Navionic apps keep pushing the wrong way $$$$$
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
The App is nice on the Ipad but most owners suggest an ipad with "WiFi + Cellular". The ipads with "Wifi & Cellular" have a proper "gps chip" that a plain vanilla Ipad does not. I only have a plain Ipad but it still achieves pretty good gps. The usual cons of the Ipad are the Ipads fault: Screen glare outside and the need for expensive waterproof covers and battery drain. Integrating a Ipad with Raymarines WI-FISH and Navionics is a pretty nice setup. -

In all fairness my maps are fine also, just alarmed at the login screen. -

Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Arkrisoner you nailed it and every company in the world would do the same, but it still sucks. The online streaming model $$$ of all software applications started a few years ago (Microsoft Office 360 / Adobe/ Autodesk/ Solidworks etc.) Maybe a special "Upgrade Price" to loyal customer of the first apps would of eased the sting. On the other side I can see this app disappearing within 5 yrs due to competition of other products or just open source apps eliminating the need for a paid app. With economical units now providing digital sonar log recording features (Raymarine DragonFly Vexilar/) allowing you to add to maps and edit it will only be a matter of time before Open Source or free Apps allow everyone to update freely available government charts. -

I think that it basically quit access to the Navionic servers with the newer Android OS Updates so basically anyone with a new phone was SOL. I own a raymarine plotter that can use the Navionics sonar chart function. My subscription is up but I don't think the Kawartha lakes have changed that much that I need updated maps. I could be wrong but the sonar chart function now requires a live subscription. -
Just went to check a map out on my android navionic app and now required to login etc. with offline limited abilities. This was incorporated in the latest update I assume. They just keep pushing and pushing and pushing making users wish for a substitute app. We all had to re-buy the app a few years back and then get options taken away and then re-introduced as Purchased add-ons. They went as quickly as possible to a subscription plan to squeeze more cash out of us for life... Just waiting for these paid plugins to be splashed on my screen constantly while trying to figure out a map: Notification of your birthday $9.99 Notification it may be windy $3.99 Notification of Daylight $2.99 Notification its getting dark $2.99 Change title screen to custom photo $10.99 Change fonts: $5.99 Notification of yearly subscription due $10.99 Automatic Renewel from your bank account $19.99 Sorry, venting. Navionics Canada Lakes apps from years past just worked...

NF Drywall Taping question (removal of popcorn)
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
I saw a post of $30 an hr somewhere but that means nothing as the job could be 3hrs or 10hrs etc. Wife now has mentioned pot lights so its do-able right now before paint. -

Finished scraping and will let dry. Tomorrow a skim coat and light sand, prime and paint. I have a small hallway to do that I may try just 2 skim coats. -
NF Drywall Taping question (removal of popcorn)
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
I'm half way thru and yes the safe way would of been just 2 skim coats. Just soaking it down and hacking away using the 12" when possible and then the 6". Came home today to find the cat and dog took down my plastic sheets, are we having fun yet? -
As far as I know you are SOL. I was in the same situation very happy with my app (actually happier) but Navionic pulled the plug. Its been awhile but I think they stopped updating it and it wouldn't work on the latest OS (Android/IOS). There was an uproar from paid loyal users having to buy the same product twice but Navionics used a excuse like "Navionics Boating is a new product" etc. and the other versions should work fine. They didn't and we had to buy the same maps again and suffer in-app purchase ads popping up all the time. We also now have to "login" with network access for some accessibility and re-load maps etc. Yes there are some nice options on the new Navionics boating but for a lot of us the older version was fine. So Navionics solved piracy problems and switched to subscription based $$$ by going to Navionics Boating. Don't get me wrong, I went ahead and bought all the newest versions but it still had a sour taste...
