  1. I know Vexilar is wifi supported also. The Wi-Fish unit is $299 CAD or cheaper, not sure. I wouldn't doubt there are other brands but my wallet puckers up after $500. Alot of brands are Live Sonar compatible but not sure about the 2d/3d dislpay.
  2. Raymarine actually has a cheap "headless" unit with no display allowing you to transmit the data to several devices. The next time someone on the boat away from the fishfinder asks "how deep is it" just tell them to load the app on their phone! You could also just pimp out and put a 70" smart tv onboard for display! The Wi-FISH supported units have chirp/side sonar but not the latest bells and whistles if you need them. Probably all Brands will go this way with the latest tech to follow.
  3. The App is nice on the Ipad but most owners suggest an ipad with "WiFi + Cellular". The ipads with "Wifi & Cellular" have a proper "gps chip" that a plain vanilla Ipad does not. I only have a plain Ipad but it still achieves pretty good gps. The usual cons of the Ipad are the Ipads fault: Screen glare outside and the need for expensive waterproof covers and battery drain. Integrating a Ipad with Raymarines WI-FISH and Navionics is a pretty nice setup.
  4. In all fairness my maps are fine also, just alarmed at the login screen.
  5. Arkrisoner you nailed it and every company in the world would do the same, but it still sucks. The online streaming model $$$ of all software applications started a few years ago (Microsoft Office 360 / Adobe/ Autodesk/ Solidworks etc.) Maybe a special "Upgrade Price" to loyal customer of the first apps would of eased the sting. On the other side I can see this app disappearing within 5 yrs due to competition of other products or just open source apps eliminating the need for a paid app. With economical units now providing digital sonar log recording features (Raymarine DragonFly Vexilar/) allowing you to add to maps and edit it will only be a matter of time before Open Source or free Apps allow everyone to update freely available government charts.
  6. I think that it basically quit access to the Navionic servers with the newer Android OS Updates so basically anyone with a new phone was SOL. I own a raymarine plotter that can use the Navionics sonar chart function. My subscription is up but I don't think the Kawartha lakes have changed that much that I need updated maps. I could be wrong but the sonar chart function now requires a live subscription.
  7. Just went to check a map out on my android navionic app and now required to login etc. with offline limited abilities. This was incorporated in the latest update I assume. They just keep pushing and pushing and pushing making users wish for a substitute app. We all had to re-buy the app a few years back and then get options taken away and then re-introduced as Purchased add-ons. They went as quickly as possible to a subscription plan to squeeze more cash out of us for life... Just waiting for these paid plugins to be splashed on my screen constantly while trying to figure out a map: Notification of your birthday $9.99 Notification it may be windy $3.99 Notification of Daylight $2.99 Notification its getting dark $2.99 Change title screen to custom photo $10.99 Change fonts: $5.99 Notification of yearly subscription due $10.99 Automatic Renewel from your bank account $19.99 Sorry, venting. Navionics Canada Lakes apps from years past just worked...
  8. I saw a post of $30 an hr somewhere but that means nothing as the job could be 3hrs or 10hrs etc. Wife now has mentioned pot lights so its do-able right now before paint.
  9. Finished scraping and will let dry. Tomorrow a skim coat and light sand, prime and paint. I have a small hallway to do that I may try just 2 skim coats.
  10. I'm half way thru and yes the safe way would of been just 2 skim coats. Just soaking it down and hacking away using the 12" when possible and then the 6". Came home today to find the cat and dog took down my plastic sheets, are we having fun yet?
  11. As far as I know you are SOL. I was in the same situation very happy with my app (actually happier) but Navionic pulled the plug. Its been awhile but I think they stopped updating it and it wouldn't work on the latest OS (Android/IOS). There was an uproar from paid loyal users having to buy the same product twice but Navionics used a excuse like "Navionics Boating is a new product" etc. and the other versions should work fine. They didn't and we had to buy the same maps again and suffer in-app purchase ads popping up all the time. We also now have to "login" with network access for some accessibility and re-load maps etc. Yes there are some nice options on the new Navionics boating but for a lot of us the older version was fine. So Navionics solved piracy problems and switched to subscription based $$$ by going to Navionics Boating. Don't get me wrong, I went ahead and bought all the newest versions but it still had a sour taste...
  12. The popcorn texture has been painted so may times 1/2 way thru the job your truely wondering if you should just re drywall.
  13. Yes, I was thinking of going over the remaining stucco. I've seen video's of contractors skim coating over stucco that is rough but doesn't have the popcorn texture on top. Basically 1 coat fills the depths and the second coats flattens it even.
  14. Trying to get in brownie points before fishing season. Wife wanted popcorn stucco removed from ceiling so I started with the dining-room 12X10. Used a 12" taping blade and knocked all popcorn down, soaked, and soaked, then removed the rest with a 6" putty knife being careful not to scar drywall. The ceiling has been painted many times over the last 25 years so it was brutal and took 2 days! I then skimmed with a 90 min set coat (noob too thick) and then primed and painted. Only skimmed 1 coat and seemed pretty flat (14" blade). I'd give it a 9/10. OK, living room time and twice as large. I have knocked the popcorn off again but wondering if I can just avoid the 2 days of scraping and instead go with 2 skim coats? I've watched a ton of youtube videos but most ceilings have not been primed and painted over 25 years hard as granite! This guy is my hero:
  15. There's a reason they don't call me "Mr. October" or Mr. Fall. Only had time for 4hrs on choppy Balsam so hid in calmer South Bay. Lost a medium pike at the boat and that was it. Of course it was still a beautiful day fishing, always is. BTW, on a non-fishing GEEK topic, are there any Hackintosh experts here? Started doing some coding again and wanted to play with Swift.
  16. Looks like it will be pretty choppy, might have to hide in South Bay.
  17. Just wondering if anyone has been on Balsam lately as I'm heading up Thursday morning to put the boat away. Bringing a friend to help seal the boat up and probably heading for South Bay and then Ant Island. Had a decent year on the lake with 2 small muskies. (one was a beautiful tiger). Thanks guys.
  18. No sorry, boat is a small 16' pontoon that's great for fishing small lakes but doesn't venture past the bridge.
  19. We have a guest staying with us that is amazed with close proximity of waterways and would like to try some fishing. I'm scheduled to put the boat away in the next couple of weeks up on Balsam but was hoping a few hours on the Hamilton Bay may have some success? The forums here point to Williams Coffee area for a chance of something. Doesn't need to be big or pretty and definitely will be released. I've heard many times of walleye stocking but again, beggars can't be choosy. Any hints or tips (lures/bait)would be appreciated as I'm dreaming of a few calm hours, a few bites, photo or 2, coffee, and back home before the puck drops! I know, I know, not asking too much!
  20. One year after I buy my Minn Kota 80 the bluetooth version comes out....sheesh Just read announcement Broadcomm new 2018 chips will give 30-centimeter accuracy instead of today’s 5 meters. Even better, the chip works in a city’s concrete canyons, and it consumes half the power of today’s generation of chips. Of course this is directed at cellphones but will trickle down soon enough. Always thought it was a military spec and the "public" was only allowed 5m. One another note, hit LSC last tuesday and went 3 out of 5 muskys in 5 hrs. Nothing huge 43",34" and 36" I believe. Lake St. Clair is just magic for musky and being able to troll in 15' basically weedless is a dream! Left boat at home and chartered with FISHLSC. That's my buddy in the video as he never gets to fish so I let him play with each one.
  21. Chasing the big fish Tuesday on Lake St. Clair but trying to solve another problem that probably will affect my Navionics soon. I own a Samsung Note 2 that is getting old 4.4.2 but works pretty ok. I'm constantly yelling at my kids for breaking theirs and of course needing upgrades to the latest and greatest. As mentioned my phone is scratch free but stuck on Android 4.4.2 (discontinued) which is slowly making it unable to run the latest apps. I use Teamsnap as I coach some high school teams and now it requires 5.0 minimum which is Bull but I can only wonder how long Navionics will work unitl they need a more updated OS too. My question is hoping there is a android cell phone geek (I mean this nicely) that could assist me if I run into problem installing custom 5 or 7 roms. What a racket the cell phone companies got running! I have a perfectly fine phone but must get a new one anyways!
  22. Thanks guys, I was hoping it was a tire size and not actual rim dimension. BTW, the engineers that came up with the idea of putting shiny tin caps on the lugnuts should be &*&&&*&*&*&....
  23. (NON-FISHING sorry) Bought some tire/rims off kijiji and got home before realizing they aren't exactly the same. My current tires are 225/65/R16 and I bought a used set of 4 @ 225/55/R16. I just need the rims (Have a good set of winter tires without rims) and I'm pretty sure they are the right bolt pattern. Just wondering if the 55 - 66 is a tire spec and not really a rim detail. Thanks ahead.
  24. Well since its just a $400 brick now a disassembled and hoped cleaning it would help out. Nope. IFIXIT site has $99 US oem motherboards for Black but not silver. After reading all the freezing complaints you'd wonder why there wasn't a recall or lawsuit.
  25. Thanks for the reply. I have spent a few days trying every fix I could find but hoped there was 1 more magic bean trick I missed. No idea why this is happening as it hasn't been used in months and treated like gold.
