  1. Fish tacos are my fav. Fried perch or walleye, creamy cole slaw wrapped with soft taco shell
  2. I read an interesting article in one of the farm mags on organic maple syrup. The one major step that separates traditional syrup and organic is the way equipment is cleaned and sanitized. Non organic equipment is cleaned using detergents that are food grade safe and rinsed with hot water, where organic equipment is cleaned with fermented sap. As sap ages,it turns into a vinegar like liquid. Making a great cleaner then rinsed with hot water.
  3. As soon as I see temps above zero I'm gonna start drinking I mean tapping. I doing about 70 taps this year. Down sizing from 120 last year. Jr got a job on the neighbours dairy farm so I'm collecting solo most times. We boil on a 2x4 evaperator.
  4. Ya I noticed that too that they are using local numbers to my area too. I see a local # come up so I answer.....hoooooooooooonnnnnnk this is your capt speaking.........click
  5. If you can get them from a brick company, they would be hard wood skids then just a thought
  6. Nice! Pulled pork and creamy slaw sammich is the boss
  7. I see some vehicles that only have snow tires on the front. That too me seems like it could mess up the braking of the car on slippery surfaces????
  8. Growth hormones where banned decades ago
  9. 10 years ago I could drive 20 minutes in any direction from our farm and be at a local butcher. Say about 6 in our area. Down to 1 now. With expensive red tape regulation, the government has forced a lot of our local butchers to close the doors. It's sad. Red tape everywhere anymore
  10. I'm a poultry producer,I receive quarterly market news and trends. We are still hot and heavy in the buffalo wing craze. Grocers cannot get enough of them, especially around football games. Can't remember the exact number but the US consumed some 1.4 billion wings last Super Bowl lol. It's crazy... Sorry to hi jack this thread guys...
  11. ya that to me is just plain old smart shopping. You can also buy a whole uncooked chicken for cheaper than a pack of wings. A lot of food these days have been placed on the shelf or in the cooler pretty much ready to serve to our busy/lazy lifestyles that we live.convinience comes at a huge cost. If more people went back to the basics of smart shopping they would see a huge savings on the grocery bill.
  12. Yes wings are expensive second to breast. But that has absolutely nothing to do with what the farm gate price is. That's grocery price.farmers don't set those.
  13. That's bull.the price of chicken is established from the current price of feed and chick.if the farmers or processors don't agree on price it goes to third party arbitration and they decide.
  14. Awesome thanks guys! Can't wait!
  15. Heading up to my brothers new place north of Temagami this coming weekend. Any chance finding minnows around NB? Also any tips on walleye depths ?. He's on the Montreal river below the dam at Mowats landing. Going to have to dress warm, looks like its going to be chilly. Thanks!
  16. We were there in 09. Great accommodations. Fishing was pretty decent. If I recall the week we where there it was quite a mix bag of weather. Caught lots of walleye in one lake but can't seem to remember the lake name though (sample lake maybe) my son caught his pb walleye on the home lake that they are on. You can fish a diff lake each day almost. You do have to trailer your boat down logging rds. At the time we where there they seemed to be in pretty good shape. I would recommend a 4x4 truck as some of the launches where iffy or greasy if it had rained. And a saw if you don't want your truck scratched by trees grown in on some of the paths going into lakes. I definatly would go back
