Hey baby Herc, No...lol...i have no idea, all i know is from the ontario fishing regs is that in our area Bass is open all year give or take a few exceptions. sorry mate, cant help ya, but the fishing regs document on the MNR website gives clear map of areas and whats fishable and when. -
Nice musky jigger, great to get a PB, 10/10 for patience and perseverance...i dont think i'm cut out to be a musky fisherman...lol..too impatient. Bad luck with the camera...can still see the fish though . I have a problem with leaving it on video mode...think i'm taking a pic only to find 20mins later i hit the record button...so i get 2 secs vid of me or someone holding a fish, then a long video of ther blackness of the inside of the camera case...lol...lucky the camera switches off after 1 minute!!!

LOL....i always pray there is nobody at launches cuz i'm the newbie boat guy who cant reverse a trailer for the life of me...but i'm getting better. once again, great post...judging by your previous posts on here wont be long before you adjust and are slammin' the fish...by the way...looks like a great boat from the little views of it in the pic...everything ya need. PS...i will still leave the boat behind and head ofF shore fishing even though we are on the lake,,,guess old habits die hard.

Hi Y'all, Well for the past two weeks or so I have been spending most of my time in a small lake connected to the main Wabigoon Lake. I have been targeting pike and bass. What i started to realise was the bass were holding up on shallow sloping rocky/bolder shorelines with no weed. I also found a little bay where the walleye are feeding ferociously at the moment, i have even been getting them on jerk/slash baits and Mepps spinners, this might not come as a surprise to some walleye anglers, but when i told a few people round here about this they were surprised if not disbelieving. Anyway, i am in my local tackle shop getting minnows, and chewing the fat with the owner and his son....love this shop.....my home from home almost, and asked his son if he wanted to come out with me to the lake, as this is also one of his favourite lakes. He loves fishing just like me...lol...must suck to have a dad that owns a tackle shop and he does not take much persuading, he lives on the lake as i do so plan was he'd drive his boat over to my shore and pick me up.....his boat is a bit nicer than mine . I was really pumped and also a bit nervous....pumped cuz this kid can fish, fishes a lot in this particular lake and i figured i could learn a lot from this trip, but at the same time nervous cuz i had hyped up the bass and walleye fishing and did not want to disappoint...i know...i know....cant control what the fish wanna do...but I’m sure a lot of you have said to someone " you gotta come to this spot with me...its awesome"....and then get skunked....lol. Well we did not get skunked.....i learnt loads....and i really don’t mean this to sound like bragging...cuz its not....i think i even showed the kid a few new tricks on a lake he has fished all his life just about. We hit the entrance to the lake at about 3pm, and Kyle says we should maybe start with getting some walleye....so where’s this hot spot?....so we cruise round the corner and anchor up where i have been getting them. Kyle is excited, he is liking the terrain on the fishfinder....rocky, mudflats, drop offs, shallows and deep holes in a very small area...also fish showing up. I am nervous and praying the fish are there........ Kyle decides to go with one of those Knuckle head jigs and a leech.....opens his tackle box....wow...an Aladdin’s cave...not jealous....really...lol. I am pleased he is trying leeches cuz he has always told me to use them when i go to buy minnows at the shop, but when i tried them never had any luck...so now he is actually here and can show me. I decided to go with my trusty bobber and live minnow. We cast out and wait.....and wait....and wait.......uh oh...... noting happening. I reel in and grab my second rod with the Mepps spinner and cast at shore. I have not even started to reel before the first walleye was on. Kyle just looked at me with an amazed look and says " i have never seen or heard of anyone catching walleye on those on any of the Wabigoon chain lakes". I say " me either....i was also getting them on jerk baits the other day, Kyle again says he has never caught walleye using them...and quickly sets up a second rod with a Perch pattern....casts out a couple of times....and wham!!! Kyle was now totally pumped, any doubts he had about what I’d been saying gone he concentrated on the crank bait for the next hour......lol....neither of us got any more on artificials....but the theory/method had been proved to work, and having an avid walleye fisherman (10th in the recent walleye masters on Wabigoon) endorse a method i had recommended felt good....maybe all the fishing i do was beginning to pay off.....lol KYLE'S 1ST EVER WALLEYE ON CRANK BAIT (lol...i think that’s what those lures are called) Like i said , not a sniff on artificials after that....but Kyle was getting all the keepers on his leech and jig, right under the boat. It did take a while to convince him that we would do better anchored before we arrived, as he likes to troll for them, but again he was amazed at how good the fishing was with anchor down right over the side of the boat. My bobber was not doing anything.....but i was determined to show how effective it can and has been, especially after always jabbering on about it at the shop. So i decided to keep the bobber but switch to a leech instead of a minnow......for about an hour it was non stop on the bobber, and at one point Kyle was gonna set one up himself! After a while the bite slowed, we were catching lots but we were only keeping the 17 inchers...of which i got 2 and Kyle got 5. I also got a couple of crappie on the bobber. ONE MORE FOR TEAM#4 We had enough to feed both of our respective families.....so Kyle wanted to show me where he catches a lot of his bass. I was really looking forward to this, cuz as i said, him and his dad have had some lunkers out of here, and figured if i add what he knows to what i am finding out ...well...cant be a bad thing. So Kyle takes me to his spot and we start to cast out.....made two or three passes of the 150yard stretch of shoreline with no takers....Kyle using his crayfish pattern wiggle wart...me on my yellow and black mepps. So i says to Kyle we should try the spots i have been talking about.....the shallow sloping rocky marks i'd been finding...and off we went. I pointed to the 10yrd stretch of shore where i said Kyle should cast, pointing out the rocks/shallow slop etc...etc... two casts later.....bam...he has a fish on...please don’t be a pike....lol............ LOVE IT WHEN IT ALL GOES ACCORDING TO PLAN!!! BASS VIDEO LINK I also pulled a small one out of the same 10yrd stretch , then it went quiet. I pointed to another shallow/rocky point across the bay and we headed for that. We pulled three or for more out of there.....i pointed to another stretch of shore i had caught on....same story...3 or 4 more. After about half an hour of fishing the marks i had been doing well on, Kyle was a believer in the shallow/rocky shore line theory, i was now convinced myself....definitely proven hypothesis...also if there was anything more than sparse weeds anywhere nearby these marks we not catch any bass. As it turned out we caught over 20 bass that day. Kyle said it was the best session for walleye and bass he has EVER had on this lake...he must have fished here 1000's of times....we pretty much proved a theory....and as a novice fisherman in these lakes i got to feel like an expert fishing guide...lol....here’s some pics of the day...... BASSESSESSES I WAS GONNA ENTER THIS ONE>>>BUT IT HAS ALREADY BEEN TOPPED BY OUR TEAM BUT I DID BEAT MY PREVIOUS RECORD FOR SMALLEST FISH CAUGHT All in all one of the best days fishing I’ve had, great company , plans coming together, learnt lots, fish were co-operating fully and we got our supper out of it....oh yeah...all the bass were returned safely to grow bigger .

Great post! Absolutely love the pics of CN tower and the duck....thanks for sharing...oh yeah...lol...great fish too!!

Hi Y'all, Me again. Just finished a post about catching some decent size walleye , and my attemps to catch one bigger than 18" yesterday. Well i could not manage it yesterday, but after the post, went for a quick couple of casts from the yard...and wallop.....this guy just over 21". About time too....as the bigger walleye have been illusive for a couple of weeks now. ONE MORE FOR TEAM#4

Hi Y'all, Went back to Mile Lake in search of more bass for an afternoons entertainment and found a bunch of decent Walleye. I started off with my trusty mepps spinner which seems to work best for bass on this lake at the moment. After a few casts I was seeing fish follow the spinner up to the boat, thing is it did not look like jackfish or bass....looked like walleye, but they were not biting. I had had some luck with jerk baits here...so quickly changed up, but no takers. So back to the spinner and after a few more casts got this little guy..... SO IT WAS WALLEYE FOLLOWING IN TO BOAT After that it was quiet for a bit so switched to live bait on bobber......lots of perch around taking the bobber for a walk without committing to swallowing the darn bait, but as usual it was only a matter of time before the jackfish made an appearance........ CANT RESIST A LIVE MINNOW OVER THE TOP OF CABBAGE BEDS Decided the walleye must have moved on or were reacting to spinner baits...so changed again and after a few more casts hooked into this monster THIS GUY ALMOST BROKE THE SCALES After that little Jackfish i got to thinking. This Lake is absolutely crawling with jackfish, but i rarely catch them over 25", so where are the big guys? Its not a huge lake, but it is a fairly even 20 -30 feet deep in the middle sections. I have never fished the middle so decided to see what was lurking in the deeper water. No fish were showing on the Lowrance, but lots of weed and structure down there. I decided to throw on a big deep diving lure and troll /drift across the deeper section, about 1/4 mile drift. After twenty minutes i got a hit! I was surprised cuz i really never tried this method before so was sure i was not doing it right. The fish felt big for a minute, until i remembered to switch off the trolling motor...DUH!...lol. I was even more surprised to see how little the jackfish was that hammered such a big lure, he really attacked it, was foul hooked with both hooks in the side of the body!!! BIG BAIT = BIG FISH? I drifted back and forth for another half hour, not takers. Decided to switch to live minnow on big 1oz white whistle jig but still no takers. I drifted right to shore almost when i got the tell tale tap, tap of a walleye, yup......got him to the boat...nice....few more of those and dinner is served!! YUM! I realised that i had actually drifted into the little bay where i had been when i caught my first ever walleyes on jerk baits, and yup baitfish showing up all over the screen. So i downed the anchors and decided to try and get three more for supper before continuing on my quest for bass. Well the bay was absolutely teeming with walleye. They were showing up right under the boat on the fishfinder and that’s as far as I had to cast. The jerk baits and spinners were not working, guess because of all the baitfish around so was using the bobber with minnow. It literally took 3 casts to get 3 fish. All the fish 17-18", perfect for keeping, but i did spend a good hour there reeling them in to see if there were any bigger guys there to enter into OFC tourney....GO TEAM 4! but they were all roughly the same size. I did manage a perch a whisker under 12" for the tourney, and a jackfish of 30" which put up a good fight. DINNER IS SERVED!!! ONE FOR TEAM#4 GUESS THE BIGGER ONES WERE NOT IN DEEPER WATER AFTER ALL I decided after not getting any bigger walleye to continue on my almost forgotten Bass quest.......and did get a couple small ones before heading home before the mother of all storms hit. DID GET SOME BASS AFTER ALL BASS VIDEO LINK All in all another fun day out with supper at the end of it.

thanks for the replies folks, i'm glad you allenjoyed those pics, i am simply blown away at how spectacular the scenery is here, England was scenic...but this wins hands down, thinking i'm very lucky to be here. Cant wait for my folks (mum and dad) to visit from England in August so we can spend some time together in these beautiful surroundings. Joey, if ya are up this way there is always a spare bed for a couple days, least i can do for travellers -
Sounds like an awesome time, i would also love to see those the pics!!!!!

Hi Y'all, Went out for a quick session late afternoon yesterday. All in all pretty similar to my usual exploits in Mile Lake. Started off pretty quiet, and tried lots of different presentations i.e. Mepps spinners, crank baits, jerk baits, suspending minnow(Rapala), Yo-Zuri crystal minnows and of course my trusty float set up with live minnow. The only real interest I had in my activities for the first hour was from a beaver who was none to pleased with my presence, he would swim about for a bit then make an almighty crash with his flat tale, guess he was trying to scare me off....maybe that’s what was spooking the fish, so i took a quick video of him and looked to find another spot. I basically put in the bow mount trolling motor and trolled along the shore line casting right to shore and slow retrieving to the boat....i was about 30 or 40 feet from shore. A pattern started to emerge. firstly as soon as i hit shallow sloping rocky shorelines, i would catch bass. As soon as i was casting into emerging weedbed bays i would get Pike. It was also apparent that the walleye were not in their usual haunts, and had no takers on any of the afore mentioned presentations, did not try hard for them though as i was having too much fun with bass, perch and small pike. I figure that the rocky shoreline location of the bass must have something to do with their breeding/nesting habits and that they like to make their nests in rocky/pebble locations? I now just have to work out where they are and how to catch them in August when they leave the nests, cuz that’s when the local bass tourney is on, and if i can get as many as have been getting the last few weeks i will get into the prizes for sure!!! MR. BAKER WINS THE CHINA TEA SET!!!! It was a slow day by comparison to recent trips out, but the weather has been up and down all week, lots of storms might have something to do with it, mind you it makes for some spectacular scenery pics. Here's a few fishy pics from the day. As i said , the storms may have slowed the fishing somewhat...put the scenery before and after the storms is breathtaking....here's loads of piccys from yesterday...sorry all you dial up customers STORM CLEARING JUST BEFORE I HEADED OUT SUN BEGINNING TO SET SUNSET NEAR MY FAVOURITE WALLEYE MARK THE VIEW IN OUR BAY THE VIEW FROM OUR SHORELINE

Great report! I just returned from some pike fishing yesterday, i found that they also preferred one type of presentation yesterday, Mepps spinners, but would take jerk baits and crank baits. Did not try any spoons but will now give it a go. and i thought this was a supposed to be a clean family values forum...lol

Run into a school of little fish today lol

nice haul. Thanks for sharing -
That sounds great...fantastic service as well...what more could anyone ask. What brand is an E-Tec?

I have an old Minn Kota that came as part of the package when i bought my used tinny. It has a foot pedal control that is very basic, more like the foot control on an old Singer Sewing Machine. It is very difficult to use as a foot pedal so i have it next to me on the bench seat and use my hand to control it. My buddy Dave just got a new boat with a new Minn Kota that came with a hand held remote control that can be strapped to your rod handle....wow...i love it....i just use my thumb to control the motor while never having to let go of the fshing pole. Anyway, my point is, they are great, but Dave not having had experience using a handheld control finds it difficult, or he might just be saying that so he does not have to bother doing it when i'm in his boat....lol.

I fish well with some people, dont do as well with others but enjoy the company, but i would have to say, hand on heart there is nothing like being alone in my boat out on the water....i am at peace....completely!
-
Great pics V...must have been a blast...certainly looks that way

Great report K, must be absolutely great to fish places that remote. Looks awesome in winter too, whats the icefishing like.....do you have any pics....lol...sorry...i just love icefishing.

Thanks for the replies guys. Rick we are gonna have to meet up soon for a session. Cliff....if you come up this way i'm sure there could be a sofa/bed spare at our place to extend your fishing time and recover from the days drive...hint...lol. I was actually about to post another report when i got side tracked noticing some replies so i might as well just put it here. I am at work at the moment, its a boarding school by a lake...so i have no kids and 6 hours off during the day...what d'ya think i do on my time off???...lol....would be criminal not to cast a line out....i'm here for 4 days and nights and cant afford the 250km round trip from Sioux Lookout to Dryden everyday, and anyway by the time i got back i'd have to turn round and come back.....so i pack my rods and fish.....what a chore. Anyway, like i've said in previous posts its all the Lac Seul chain of lakes, pretty well known for its excellent walleye fishing....famous for being difficult to catch within slot size for shore lunch. My first three casts produced Pike, then a wally then a pike. Went quiet for a bit then went nuts for a bit, was raining like hell. I did struggle to get within slot size and about every 3rd fish was a keeper, the rest between 19 and 28 inches. managed 3 keepers so my students will have some fish when they get back from school....her's a few piccys 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD CAST IN ORDER MY 3 KEEPERS (wiated till i got out of the rain to take pics,)
