  1. At least the boat is named correctly Maureen! He bought a used pro-v last year Maureen. This one will better suit taking his young kids out on Lake Erie safely.
  2. Guess Mike's has none cause I've got two...the greedy bugger I am...
  3. Probably work well. I've got an article around here on burnishing..just not sure where it is to see what the tool of choice really is.
  4. Well I officially gave in today. Open water is over for the season I guess. Still gotta go thru the boat and get my stuff out of it...but she's blocked up off her tires and ready for a 5 month rest.
  5. You can "burnish" up a piece yourself pretty quickly in a drill press. Some really heavy scotchbrite pads on a mandrel (body work section CTC)...move your piece over equal amounts as you go..bring the pad down on it for a few turns..move..repeat.
  6. DANG... didn't even realize I'm advertising to keep Cliff in employement in that shot. Free garbage bags! Part of the other side... (shot while doing 80mph it appears - 1800 feet up) Sounds like a very experienced statement Emil... get Brian to help you drill twice...
  7. Hey... Wayne's not a expert at anything!! He just knows how to do a lot of things well ! LOL Wiring is one of them.... But Brian.. go knock yourself out, cause I ain't got time! Emil is just afraid to drill any holes in his shiney new boat!
  8. Oh..and the other question was "other than price". The welded hull had better be a substantial amount cheaper for a similar size boat as the riveted. The welded boat has at least 30% less labour input into it...possibly 40%. Welded boat = make parts..fit pieces and weld. Riveted boat = make parts...fit pieces..drill everything..dismantle...debur every hole..reassemble with sealer and rivet. There's a HUGE cost savings for the manufacturer to go welded and if they aren't passing it on to you... then... well... you may as well buy riveted.
  9. So would I, Tony.. so would I. MUCH easier to install a new rivet (even if you have to use a blind pull rivet)...then to try and weld up a crack backed by floatation foam.
  10. How many boats come blasting out of the sky at 100 MPH and land in 2 foot waves? I do it.... on .032 and .025!!! skins... RIVETED !! Cansos and our latest big water bombers do it on .063 to .080" hulls RIVETED! And I know a Canso pilot personally that landed his in 20 foot ocean swells...along a swell ridge...successfully I might add.
  11. Thanks for the memory reflect Brandon. Haven't been there in years... 31 to be exact. Beauty shots.
  12. Knew that was comin... but still DANG funny !
  13. HMMMM.. nope, better not, my luck I'd rip the stitches out of my neck hoistin the big gal! LOL Where's slowpoke on this one. BRIAN !!!!
  14. Chris...when I start building boats I'll get you to write the company website's prologue! LOL
  15. You have a point Tony... but in reality you don't ! LOL Neither does Lund in their propaganda. Airplanes aren't welded because their skin thicknesses are generally too thin to do so. Welding all the ribs/skins/reinforcements vs riveting would also make them heavier than riveting (eating into their useful load). That said the riveting of airplanes does prove you can make a stronger unit with lighter materials, than you can welding and why I stated to not compare a heavy stanley with a lighter riveted hull. The welded Stanley is definitely a stronger, more abuse taking hull... but it's also thicker and heavier. Like Lew said... buy what you like...and don't worry about it.
  16. Just like last year with CTC... everything they had in their flyer that Leah wanted for people was NEVER stocked in the store. She had a fist full of rain checks that took her 'till mid winter to get filled. Same thing this year with their Christmas calendar coupons. Garage floor dolly... $40 off reg $49.99 for $9.99 Dec 5th to 7th only. They had 2 in the store late on the 4th.... and amazingly NONE at store opening on the 5th (cause I went there as they were unlocking the doors so I could make my Dr. appointment for 9)
  17. Ahhh suck it up.... just means you couldn't donate blood if you wuz a women! Could have at least got us a pic of the lab gal Glen! Seriously... you should have been wearin your sweater on that last outing Glen ! Get better soon!
  18. Now here's a debate that hasn't come up for a while..... Everyone knows my opinion.. RIVETED is stronger.. thickness for thickness. Lets not get carried away and compared a 3/16" (.1875") thick welded stanley to a .100" riveted hull like we did the last round! LOL
  19. Glad to hear you're home safe Joe! No picture = no fish! We've had this conversation before... LOL HAHAHAHA
