  1. Bruce, I too fish the blue zone and let me tell you that I'd rather catch three in the river than fifty out there. If your fishing light lines out there, the fish are dead when you release them. If you fish salmon gear, realing in a bow is about as sporty as realing in a wet sock. So again, icefisherman good job!
  2. The second pic and last pic are definitely of a coho. Good job for your first outing!
  3. Pretty steep for $1100 per guy. You could have went on a flyin with awesome fishing for less that that.
  4. Solopaddler, Next post and you hit 6000! Wow, congratulations. Your posts are always informative and entertaining. Thanks
  5. I wasn't trying to push a stereotype. I was only reflecting on my experience from last week and it wouldn't matter if the guy had a spinning rod, float rod or fly rod. Personally I could care less who keeps a fish and who doesn't. If you are within the legal limit, so be it, Case closed.
  6. If that's the case, then on Friday a lot of them were there!
  7. I was not implying that gear guys don't care. I release 99% of my fish and I'm sure most of the gear guys do as well, but on this particular river the fly guys are the majority and they look at you as though you killed their mother when you rope a fish. My son caught his first trout this weekend and I had to move after some fly guy with an uber expensive Orvis rod and reel kept giving us attitude about keeping a fish. He probably just wanted to get in on our spot, but I wasn't really happy about this guy talking crap in front of my kid. We just moved downstream and found some other fish. The fact that a fly guy caught that Atlantic probably made everybody high-five each other on the river. But if a gear guy caught that fish, there would have been a whole different attitude.
  8. Mmmm, Atlantic eggs. They're ten times better than brown eggs! . I'll bet the fly fishing guys were crying big tears for that one
  9. All of us in North American are brainwashed that what we have here are "fuel efficient" cars. Fifteen years ago, my uncle in europe had an Opel corsa diesel that was similar to a Honda Civic. THis thing would average 3-4 litres per 100/km and he still has this car today. That is fuel efficient. I went to Austria four years ago and rented a van for seven people and lots of luggage. When I got there they had a brand new Opel Vivaro that had nine seats and loads of luggage room. It looked like a box, but heck, it drove like a sedan. It had a turbo diesel engine and had plenty of guts. I put 3500 km on the thing over three weeks and filled it up three times. Our last day before the vehicle return I was fooling around with the guages and stumbled upon the trip computer. Over the three weeks I burned an average of 8.8 litres per 100 km and this is autobahn driving upto 180 km/h, mountain driving, city driving, basically everything. I was amazed. This thing is bigger than the Chevy Express/GMC Savana and burns less than half the fuel! Where can I get one in Canada? The answer is: I can't. And probably never will, because we are forced to believe that fuel efficient vehicles are years away. That is Bull!. THe fact is that there are fuel efficient vehicles all over the world but in North America. Why I don't know, but it probably has something to do with government/oil companies/ auto companies conspiracies.
  10. Get a Water Spike. By far the best anchor I have ever used. It holds in pretty well anything and is easily removable as well. I've got a 25 foot hardtop fishing boat and no matter what kind of wind or waves there are this thing holds, and I also anchor stern first. When I had my danforth, it p'd me off many times as I could never anchor when it was windoy on our favourite walleye lake, but never a problem now. Also, you can disassemble it so that it doesn't take up very much room when not in use. Another thing, the biggest one only weighs 16 pounds but is rated upto a 35' boat. I got mine from Cabela's shipped to my door in three days.
  11. Look up any trailer sales/repair place in the area. If they specialize in trailers a boat trailer should be no problem. We have a place here in Bolton called Via trailers, but no idea about the Newmarket, Aurora area.
  12. Next Year. That's what I'll keep telling myself. The schedule this year simply did not allow any trips like that. One question, do you think a four year old girl would last a week in the bush at a place like that. I have no questions about her three older brothers, but I'm thinking with swimming, exploring and fishing it would probably keep them occupied.
  13. What no fish pics? Glad you had a relaxing time. I wish I could do the same right now.
  14. If Wiser can do it so can I. If any CNC boring mill guys are looking for work PM me for details. In Bolton, north of TO.

  15. Bought Nano-fil ($39.00US for 300 yards) when I went to the states last month and used it on Nipissing for pickerel a few weeks ago. Sensitivity wise, it is no different than my old fireline that i have on my other rod. It has a nice silky feel to it, and not like thread for the fireline. It casts further using the same 3/8" jig as compared to the fireline. It doesn't twist after a day of jigging, but neither does fireline. So essientially it is just a new type of fireline at triple the price. BTW the price in CTC is probably for the 115 yd spool.
  16. Thanks Nipfisher, but catching fish is never a problem. I've been coming up to Sturgeon falls since I was 5. As for spots, we always fish the mouth of the French in the reefs. My Boat? is a 24' Stanley. Its actually on Lake Ontario for most of the summer but this year it has not seen water yet. Hopefully the weather stays the same for the rest of the week.
  17. Can anybody give me an approx. location as I'll probably zip by at 100 if I'm not sure. Thanks,
  18. Up here in Caledon there is no "local" bait shop. And I do not really have the time to go out to get them in the city. Looking at the weather forecast though, we may be leaving Friday morning instead because I cannot imagine how it comfortable it would be to sleep in a cottage with no AC after the furnace blast day we are going to have on Thursday. Leaches may be a good option, but have never used them on Nipissing. Anybody have had success with them. Also can't see my kids putting leaches on a hook by themselves. I've already trained them with the worms, but it could be worth a shot as I know they are really tough. Thanks for the info guys.
  19. Probably about 8pm or so. That's Lake Bernard outfitters? I called at 7Pm tonite and there was no answer...
  20. We are staying at one of the lodges on the river, but I like to get my worms in advance because with my kids we will go through 5-6 dozen a day if the fish are on the bite. I was at least hoping that I can stop along the highway somewhere, but I have to settle on going to Chez Michauds in the morning.
  21. Does anybody know if there are any bait shops open in the evening along Hwy 11 going north. Leaving Thursday and want to get bait but I think most places are open early but not late. If not is there a place in Strurgeon Falls that sells bait? Thanks Kingsalmon
  22. You should have your water softener discharge directly outside and not throught the septic system. Think about how much salt you put in your softener, all that ends up in your septic! On our system it is discharges directly out with the sump pump lines.
  23. Be aware that a lot of the packing peanuts are now the corn starch type that shrivel into nothing once water contacts them. Just saying, because that would not be a good thing to use as floatation in a boat.
  24. Ya, but you could be at the Attawapiskat at 9PM if you open the door during your flight!
