  1. People are so quick to pounce, it's ridiculous. I know Bill very well and consider him a good friend. Tone and intent are easily misinterpreted. Regardless the man does have a point. Cliff your analogy of someone driving along and suddenly slipping on black ice isn't a good one. There's a world of difference between that kind of freak incident, and knowingly putting your life and others at risk for a bunch of dink perch. Here's hoping everyone made it back safe, fishermen and rescuers alike, and hopefully learned a valuable lesson in the process.
  2. I can see several inherent design flaws. For car camping check out Oz Tents. Very pricey, but probably worth it.
  3. I'm not saying big baits won't work, just that slightly smaller baits will work better at least in my experience. There's decent fish in that system no doubt but 50" fish may be a wee bit of a stretch. There's at least 3 separate lodges and several outpost camps that operate on it. Regardless you'll catch plenty of fish.
  4. Thanks Roy! I've never needed to connect multiple batteries and the diagram is idiot proof. Would a 24 volt system be wired exactly the same way minus the 3rd battery?
  5. "Come here Canoe Dolly! Dolly come here, I've got something for you to carry! Hey I'm with you on that. I named my son Brendan which is an old gaelic word meaning "bearer of heavy loads" LOL! So when you realize you have no use for that thing up there can you stick it back into that giant action packer and ship it back to me? Please? I'd appreciate it, thank you.
  6. Billy is like the equivolent of 3 sherpas. He can carry the motor, the gas, and 80lb's of beer through dense bush for an hour. Good man, I like him a lot.
  7. Great stuff, I'll be looking forward to hearing how you make out.
  8. You know it brother. HAHA! Good idea in about 10 years. Mine is still only 5.
  9. It's by far the easiest way to carry a small motor, unless you have forearms like Popeye. Using your back is way easier. Personally carrying the thing with my arms in front of me kills my back on long portages. Most guys will routinely carry waaaay more weight in their backpack on canoe trips anyway. 45lb's is a piece of cake.
  10. That's a great idea especially if there's a decent trail.
  11. No kidding that's a huge blow. A bit surprised Carolina signed him, the No Fun League doesn't like left footed kickers. Wish they'd have have kept Wilbur last year in training camp instead of Medlock. Now the Cats are screwed LOL!
  12. Glad I could help Eddie, or at least inspire you. Which lake did you end up booking? PM me if you want. As far as the outboard goes Dr. Sal has the right idea. 45lb's can be carried quite easily on a packboard. Fortunately it's a 2 stroke motor. While I loved my little 4 stroke 2hp Honda for that kind of stuff it leaked oil all over the place unless you carried it upright. Which is impossible on long carries through the bush. I resorted to draining the oil before the carry then topping it back up when I reached the lake. Big pita, but necessary.
  13. I'm a diehard Cats fan, had seasons tickets for years. You're right back in the day that was a ferocious rivalry...not so much anymore. Ivor Wynn is still the best place to watch a game, you're literally right on top of the players. Something will be lost when they build the new stadium next year.
  14. Cool thanks man, I'll give Chapters a call and see if they have it. It is 7 Lakes. The owner Brad recently aquired the Dusey camp and yeah it hasn't been fished much at all in recent years. Should definitely be interesting.
  15. Ever heard the expression "the pot calling the kettle black"?
  16. I paddled it once years and years ago but my memory of it is vague beyond the good brook trout fishing. We'll be flying into an outpost camp on Dusey lake and fishing the river upstream and down. The outfitter recently cut trails around rapids/falls and cached squareback canoes to open up miles of new water. Which book talks about the Dusey being haunted? I'd love to read it.
  17. Beyond proper release gear and a suitable rod and reel which has been covered...in a nutshell grab some black/orange inline bucktails and cast alongside pretty much any weedline in the Kawarthas.
  18. I fished Ara/Meta/Brace once before and had an enjoyable trip. You'll be in right part of the system for pike in the spring. Brace is much shallower. In a nutshell smaller spinnerbaits up to 3/4oz, inline bucktails up to about an ounce, Johnson Silver Minnow spoons tipped with a grub and larger Doctor spoons are all great at provoking strikes. If the fish are in the bays and neutral you'll need some 5-6" plastic swimbaits rigged weightless or 6" black or white reapers. You definitely won't need musky sized stuff.
  19. Chris you're welcome in my boat any time buddy.
  20. I'm tentatively planning a short trip to Algonquin in early May. It's a fantastic time to be in the bush, a true harbinger of spring and the first real test of winter weary muscles. Nothing like it I agree. I've been neglecting my favourite fish for far too long anyway, so this will be the year of the brook trout for me. I'll be fishing the Dusey river north of Nakina for a week in early June, then in late August a 12 day float trip down the Sutton river to Hudsons Bay.
  21. Was going to make a similar comment. I lived in Port Carling for a couple of years and wouldn't have dreamed of leaving a portable hut set up on the ice with gear in it no less. There's no excusing the theft and I do feel your pain.....but man that was an open invitation.
  22. About 800K more than he should've been paid. What do you do though? IMO he's a key piece of this team moving forward and unlike many of his teammates actually plays with passion. He'd have been a free agent July 1st and the crop is VERY thin this year. Someone would have overpaid for his services big time guaranteed. Good timing for Grabo, nothing more. Overall I feel good he's been locked up, I like him a lot. He's young and I believe we havn't seen his best yet.
  23. That's inspiring Dan, good for you.
  24. Wow yeah, beautiful fish!
