  1. John is most definitely the person to best answer your question. As stated it is open, however access is very very limited as pretty much the entire stretch is surrounded by private land.
  2. That's a better price but the problem is it's a Globalstar phone. It does work in Canada but the service is very, very sketchy. Eddie has one at his camp on the Attawapiskat and it was great to have...but incredibly frustrating to use. Iridium is waaaaaay better.
  3. Congrat's on the win! I'm somewhat familiar with Bark. It's deep, clear and mostly fishless from my perspective LOL! Seriously though it's always been a tough nut to crack for me. There's a decent population of smallmouth which will likely save your trip. Hopefully Bob and friends are more adept than I am figuring the lake out. It's a beautiful lake though located in beautiful part of Ontario. If nothing else this guarantees you a good time.
  4. Man that's brutal, hope it works out for you. Seems as though you created the mess you're in though.
  5. Cool looking bait and until now unknown to me. Thanks.
  6. River systems are much less likely to be affected. Shield lakes can be murder though, I've seen it too many times. That said I'll still fish as well. Even in the toughest of conditions you can still scratch out a few if you adapt. The only thing that stops me cold is generally gale force winds.
  7. Awesome fish, wow! I'm out of the loop, what's a slammer? (I'll guess a goby coloured tube)
  8. No doubt they can't differentiate wind direction. However pressure changes will affect them negatively. Nothing is etched in stone but in many cases an eastery wind means the onset of a weather system and a falling barometer.
  9. What, you expect to get it free? On the plus side all incoming calls are free although they're charged as an international call to the person who dialed. If it's only one midweek call anyway who cares?
  10. These guys are located in the Toronto area: http://helloanywhere.com/index.htm
  11. It's actually not a bad way to rig imo. Only exception being you're attaching the weight to end of the mainline. In a normal 3-way or Wolf River rig the dropper with the weight is always lighter line. That way if you get snagged you just lose the weight and not your entire rig. As an aside I've been using 3-way rigs for a long long time and have never had a problem with tangling.
  12. Angling Specialties sells components and does custom work. There's 3 locations in your area, google is your friend.
  13. That was my initial gut reaction as well. Screw the files, tell them to keep them. You're not legally obligated to provide a medical history when a new doc takes you on.
  14. Sounds to me as though the price to transfer files is pretty arbitrary. When we moved recently our old doctor charged a total of $50 to have all of our files transferred (family of 4). I can't offer any suggestions but you're definitely getting ripped off.
  15. 2 more people are confirmed leaving 2 spots open. Cheers
  16. In the range of 4 hours and less from Toronto I'm partial to the lower French downstream from hwy 69. These are water access camps. The outfitter picks you and your gear up at the marina and shuttles you to the lodge. These places are both rustic but nice and in great fishing areas: http://frenchriverlodge.com/ http://atwoodisland.com/ Another great option is Georgian Bay Fishing camp. It's on an island in the N/E corner of Georgian Bay where the French, Pickeral and Key rivers flow in. Access is via the Key river down to the bay and across to the camp. They'll pick you up at the hwy if you don't have your own boat: http://georgianbayfishing.com/
  17. In order to do this properly the entire rod would have to be stripped to the blank, cut to your liking then rebuilt completely from scratch. This is not a good idea for a couple of reasons. First off the cost would be prohibitive. What you'd spend to get this done properly you're better off buying a new rod. Second if you do this you'd void the Loomis warranty. Not worth it imo. If money is tight and you can only afford one rod but don't like the one you currently have....sell it and use the money to buy the one you want. An alternative is also building a rod. Some of the blanks out there (Rainshadow XST for example) are VERY comparable to IMX and much cheaper. You can buy all the needed components and taking your time build it yourself.
  18. Just walked in the door from an extended trip to Quebec. There's still 4 spots available. If anyone's interested I can respond directly now. Cheers
  19. Fantastic post, absolutely fascinating. My dad's side of the family is German and in my youth we travelled and explored the Rhine as well.
  20. Just a quick update. Josh (bluesky1713 on the board) has booked a trip for himself and a friend. Congrat's to you bud, you'll have a fantastic time. THERE ARE NOW A TOTAL OF FOUR SPOTS LEFT. If you're on the fence you'd best make up your mind soon. As mentioned I'm leaving tomorrow for 9 days at my camp in Quebec. I'm off the grid so the only way to reach me is on my cel. If you're interested in going call me at 289-440-1636 in the evenings. If for whatever reason you don't reach me keep trying. I could be out fishing and out of cel range. As the last 4 spots are filled Spiel will update the post for me. Thanks everyone.
  21. Great report, nice seeing all those smiles!
  22. Some heady praise indeed. What can I say? I enjoy writing and it's gratifying that so many of you enjoyed the story. Once again thanks for the kind words, Cheers, Mike
  23. Still not a single person has taken advantage of this deal. Lots of interest but no one has firmed anything up. I'll be around the computer all of today then I leave for my camp in QC for 9 days. As mentioned in my original post interested parties can contact me on my cel from Aug 13-21 at 289-440-1636 (preferably in the evenings). Thanks, Mike
  24. Guess you don't have to fish the Attawapiskat to get big ones. Well done, very impressive!
  25. You need to budget for fuel to get you there plus food and drink. Just get yourself to Nakina, pack your fishing gear, some clothes and food and off you go. Included is return airfare from Nakina to the camp and back. Fully equiped camp which includes 2 full kitchens (you don't need to bring a thing), hot and cold running water includig shower, 16' Lund boats with new 15 horse 4 strokes plus unlimited boat gas. The website goes into great detail explaining what is and isn't provided. If you havn't checked it out yet you should: http://eddienorth.com/
