  1. I'm watching the show right now. They are pike fishing but using a net that is way too small. Also vertical holds on the fish. How can so called professionals get away with these horrible fish handling techniques?
  2. Just to confirm the 2 piece magnum is 6'9" and rated for lures from 1-5oz
  3. I have the magnum 2 pc rod and I think it's rated up to 5 oz. I'll check when I get home.
  4. I have a rapal magnum musky rod. It's a pool cue, but I use it as a backup. I didn't know they made a r-type musky rod. I'm definitely interested. How long is it? Just lookead and all the specs are on the rapala canada website. I like the split grip rod. How much are they selling for?
  5. Thanks for taking the time to put together the report. It was a really nice read.
  6. It is 8"9" or 270cm. It is an #8 or 8 weight. I'm currently looking for a vintage reel to pair with it. I actually paid a fair bit for it as the antique market that I go to is quite upscale. I did pay less than 150 for it so at least I did not overpay.
  7. I added pics of the rod if anyone is interested
  8. I definitely do not have that plug. Thanks for all the great advice Dave.
  9. I have no idea what that is, so I am going with a no on that one. Any recommendation on what reel to pair with it?
  10. The rod came with the original bag as well. I am thinking that it will be a good rod to use for steelheading. Thanks for the link. I am going to spend the day researching now.
  11. This morning I bought a Hardy JET 8 wt fly rod at the local antique market. I don't know much about fly fishing, but my brother is really into it. It is in brand new condition, it still has the plastic cover on the cork handle. It also comes with the bag. I was wondering if anyone had any info about this rod. I was thinking I can gift it to my brother for his birthday, but he does not have much use for a rod over 5 wt, and he also has gotten into building his own rods. I was also thinking that it might be good to use for steelheading. Does anyone have any input about this rod? I an charging my phone and will post pics when I get it working again. I am also interested in the value of this rod. I believe it to be in as close to mint condition as a rod of this age can be. Pics added
  12. NIce report. I'm in serious withdrawal.
  13. 2) make sure you hold the mount horizontally. That cracked me up...some people seem awfully jealous over your pair of 50 inchers
  14. Nice report. Too bad no ski's were boated but it sounds like a good day on the water. Definitely better than any day I've had in the last month or so (total days out 0).
  15. The last time I was at lebarons both shimano and g-loomis were on sale
  16. Le Barons dropped their prices a while ago.
  17. I find your response a tad insulting. I have read contradictory info about this topic. I was asking for clarification. I have read the regulations and they seem somewhat open to interpretation. Although certain species are identified as allowed as being kept in a livewell, there does not seem to be any species that are prohibited. The use of the word generally, and the fact that more than the daily limitmay be ketp makes this issue confusing. What about if you are no longer fishing and using the livewell to revive your fish? I guess I am just wondering what makes you so certain about your interpretation of the regulations. With the ambiguous nature of the regualtions, especially regarding the language, why would you assume that I have not read the regulations? Why not assume that I do not understand them, and attempt to correct me without insulting me?
  18. gbfisher, being fairlyu new to this sight and to musky fishing I have been doing a lot of reading on proper release tactics and what is legal. Although not advisable, I was under the impression that keeping a musky in a livewell is acceptable as long as you are planning on releasing the fish. Otherwise all fish besides those that can be kept legally would have to be released in the water. I may be mistaken on this. Moe I am happy that the beast was released succefully. gbfisher, do you work for the MNR? If so I would appreciate you clearing this issue up with me.
  19. I started the season learning how to use a baitcaster. This year I purchased 4 of them. Rapala r-type, 3 abu's as well. revo winh, toro 51 and a c4. Not only have I learned to baitcast, but I've developed a costly addiction to it. I started the season fishing for Pike in the GTA. I was hoping to transition into bass fishing as the summer wore on. Toronto piking turned out well. I managed to hook into quite a few, including a 40+ incher that was over 10 pounds. That fish changed my fishing life. Up until this then he largest fish I had ever caught was maybe a 5 pound pike. After landing a big pike I became obsessed with hunting large predators, and decided I would try to get into musky fishing. I purchased a cheap musky rod (rapala magnum) and reel (abu c4). I also purchased a lot of musky lures on ebay and a large net. After shore fishing with my cheap set up I decided that it was adequate but I needed to upgrade. I decided on a revo toro and a compre. I also have developed an addiction to musky lures. The one thing about musky fishing is that it is hard to do from shore. Luckily OFC has helped me hook up with a fishing buddy and I was able to boat a few ski's. I now consider myself a full on musky addict. I also worked on a few techniques this year. I managed to land a few bass on the wacky rig, a technique that I still have to master. I experimented unsuccessfully with drop shotting.I also started to learn how to skip cast. Next year I would like to add one or two musky combos. I want to find a MH 8 foot plus 2 piece musky rod that I can pair up with my revo winch for casting lighter baits. I find the toro compre combo is really hard on my wrists. I also would like to add an extra heavy rod and reel for casting and trolling baits that are 5 ounces and bigger. I also would love to get a boat. I have the summers off and would love to get out as much as possible.
  20. I am seriously jealous. Getting to fish wish some legends there. Plus a 47 incher for your first ski. Outstanding.
  21. Looks like a good day. Some of the fall ski's are getting pretty fat. Your 50 incher has got to be comming soon.
  22. Thanks for the tip. I am not a huge bass fisher but I'll keep that in mind.
  23. The bagley's lures I got are db-3's apparently they are not made anymore and are in high demand. Does anyone have any info on these?
  24. I was hoping you'd chime in Pete. You have boated a load of ski's this year so I consider you somewhat of an expert. I hoping some other people who fish the kawartha's often will add their input as well.
  25. That's what it says on the spoon, I've never heard of it, but I will keep it in mind. I've been dreaming of taking a spring trip to Algonquin. There's a purple lure with pink spots and a neon green belly. Does anyone know what that is?
