I am looking to pair my Patriarch with a rod for finesse presentations. So far I am having trouble finding exactly what I want. I would not be against having a rod built, as I can't seem to find exactly what I want. How much would a custom rod cost? I am looking for a 7ft rod. I want at least a 2 piece as storage and transportation is an issue for me. I would prefer 3 or 4 pieces. I am planning on using light braid so I think I want a medium action rod. I've looked at Norfolk, but not sure what it would be like to get it shipped to Toronto, delivery to the states is not an option for me. I would prefer to buy Canadian anyway, I'm just not sure if I can afford it. If anyone has an idea of a production rod I would appreciate the help.

That sounds like a very frustrating situation. My only point is that there are probably a lot of factors that have caused this problem. It is easy to find a scapegoat and blame the cormorants, because then the problem isn't us.

Definitely interested, just not sure if I'll be able to devote that much time as I live downtown Toronto.

I noticed they had dog stuff, can I bring my dog. Also is there an extra charge for the musky seminar on monday?

You have obviously made numerous attempts raise awareness about cormorants. What impact have you seen on the fishery?

Tough Decision: Shimano Stradic or Pflueger Patriarch
Gregoire replied to atvaholic's topic in General Discussion
Just to be clear how many of the these posts are referring to the stradic CI4. In my humble opinion the FI is a great reel , but not comparable to the Patriarch. Again keep in mind the Shimano bias. I am wondering how many of he pro shimano posters have fished with a pflueger, and quality one at that. -
Jocko, you seem to have a lot of issues that you are dealing with. Did you read the old posts on this topic. You definitely have a point, but I think you should consider the human impact on fish stocks before you blame and cull an animal.

Tough Decision: Shimano Stradic or Pflueger Patriarch

That is true, but the 9525 has a similar capacity to the CI41000 and is 5.6 oz to 6.2 (or 6.1 for the microline). The weight difference is only significant with the lightest Patriarch. -
Tough Decision: Shimano Stradic or Pflueger Patriarch

I will add that this forum is pro shimano, with good reason. They make a great product and they have great customer service, especially if you make the trip to Peterborough. I do not own any higher end shimano products (although I dream of a calcutta). I chose the Patriarch over the Stradic CI4 as I hated the feel of the grip on the CI4. It just seemed weird to me. That along with the fact that the Patriarch is substancially lighter than the CI4 swayed it for me. Maybe I'll discover that the Patriarch is trash but I don't think so. When it comes down to finesse fishing the lighter the better, and I couldn't find a lighter spinning reel than the Patriarch. -
Tough Decision: Shimano Stradic or Pflueger Patriarch

I recently had to make the same decision. I decided on the Patriarch as it is really light. I got a good deal ion Ebay getting it shipped from Thailand. I think it was 196 or something with shipping. -
There are lakes that are C&R only. I'd love to see this happen in some waterways. I fish in downtown Toronto and would love to see that area be a C&R area. When you consider that a lot of the fish in this area may not be that healthy It might be a good idea.

I guess my point is that instead of saying the cormorants are the problem and killing them all we should try to look at what role we play. Before a bunch of you go off on a tangent about government studies and waste: that is not what I am suggesting. I just think that we need to realize that as the dominant species in the ecosystem we play the largest role in determining the health of that ecosystem. Blindly killing off all the animals that we consider pests does not seem to be the best way to confront problems in my opinion. Has there not been movements by Walleye anglers to kill off Muskies because they considered them a pest? There seem to be similarities between killing off Musky ad killing off Cormorants.

Are you comparing Mosquitoes to Cormorants? As far as I know cormorants do not directly spread disease or illness to humans. It seems like you are the one trying to have a philisophical discussion. I was just stating an opinion. A month or so ago we had a similar thread, all we seem to be doing is rehashing old debates.

I've got to agree with that point. We can blame animals all we want, but if we as humans do not change the way we behave it won't make a lick of difference. Think about it, should we blame the animals who act on instinct or should we realize that we are the only species that can make logical decions and use reason (some of us anyway).

Didn't we have this discussion not too long ago?

Anyone know where I can find these rods?
Gregoire replied to BFSC Kevin's topic in General Discussion
I am interested as well. I am looking for a rod to match up with my recently purchased Pflueger Patriarch. The lightet the better. Just out of curiousity what is the price point of the rapala rod? I am also considering a St. Croix avid. -
Nice report. Too bad about the slush.

A lot of fish markets have fresh walleye sold by the pound.
-
Wow...you have bigger cajones than I do.

I'd like to pair it with a really light 7 foot or so light rod. I'd love to make it a cumulus or a G loomis but those seem a bit pricey. There seems to be a compre that works. I'm going to have to try the reel on a bunch of rods.

So...where would I apply said sticker?

Thanks for sharing. Nice report, and nice pike.

A couple of weeks ago I came in to some extra cash (thanks to my fantasy football genius) and I decided to use some of my winnings to purchase a new reel. I started a post and decided to get the Pflueger Patriarch 9525 for two reasons: 1. I wanted to use it for ice fishing 2. I fish some clear and busy water and wanted to be able to use an extreme finesse presentation I decided that I would purchase the reel from LeBaron as they had a good price on the reel and I would get the 10% rebate. When I go to the Markham store and asked they did not have any Patriarchs in stock. I then asked to see the Shimano Stradis CI4 microline, and it turned out they don't carry that reel. On to plan B. I called bass pro, and they had none in stock. Plan C I called LeBaron Missisuaga, none. Restocking would be in mid march, so on to plan D, order online. I ended up getting the reel on ebay shipped from Thailand for a little less than it would have been in stores in Canada (196 all in). With the savings I was able to order an Abu Garcia hip bag, which will be nice to use while shore fishing. The reel was delivered a week and a half after the order, extremely good delivery time I thought. I got a chance to pick it up yesterday. The reel out of the box: The box: Thai writing on the box and warranty card A close up of the spools and handle A few questions: Why are the holographic stickers with the serial numbers stickers marked Abu Garcia? (I know that both Pflueger and Abu Garcia are owned by Pure Fishing.) And what is this sticker for: I was thinking that I would load up the ultra light spool with 5 ld braid and use that in the summer. I am planning on using the spare aluminum spool for ice fishing. Any recommendations for line on this spool. I was thinking a heavier ice braid as I would like to target lakers. Do I need to add tape/backing to the good spool to spool it with braid? Thanks for reading and any input or advice that you can give. Greg
