  1. Great post! Lots of members are extra pumped for the ice this year!

I try to keep it simple. I spend a few nights on nippising each year. So we need to bring a few meals. Usually we plan one night at the pizza joint in Calendar for a dinner and a few pints. Quick and easy walk back to the hut after.

I bring my Coleman grill for the other meals. Chilli is wicked easy to heat up. Usually made with goose meat from the past hunting season.

    Irish whiskey.

    Lots great memories.

My girlfriend peed inside the hood of her floater suite once... Tragic mistake. I almost died laughing. Literally. I almost died I was laughing so hard. Ive never seen a look of such shame before in my life..

Can't wait for this season! Make some more great memories!

  2. This is the view from Georgian College.

It's coming along quite nicely!!  And with this cold snap.  Minus double digits over the next several nights...  I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few floater suites out there Saturday morning.  Causing a ruckus in the neighbourhood!

  3. Things are looking alright.

And cliff, I second your feeling.

I am so pumped up for the ice, it's driving me crazy!

    Orr lake us froze over.

    Holland River in Bradford....

Lots and of soggy spots... But it's a start!

    Cooks Bay is wide open....

  4. I am going to be in Lindsay Dec 26 and 27.

Being the optimistic person that I am. I'm going to assume there will be some "safe" ice by then.

I'm obviously not looking for GPS coordinates or anything. But does anyone know what lakes might hold some Crappies? Or a good population of Blue Gills?

Once I figure out some potential lakes, I can take it from there. I've never fished out that way before.. But I was thinking of hitting up a spot or two on my way home to the Barrie area.

PM me if feel like sharing some info. Or if you want to join me!

  5. Ya, that's a little sad for sure. I know a free access point to get on the lake from the opposite side, but you need a snowmobile to get there!

In fact, I can drive a snowmobile from my home in midhurst directly to little lake and not really need to to much road running. Only a tiny bit to get to the snowmobile trails.

You are right, with one of the trailer parks gone, that means no more pontoon boat rentals, no more free ice fishing access, and one less boat launch for general use.

The fishing should get better over the next few years!

  6. For my walleye/white fish rig, I run 10lb micro-ice braid. With a 8.5lb Raven flouro leader. You feel every little tick. I've use 6lb braid, with a 4lb raven flouro leader on my pan fish rods. but I also run a few reels with light light mono and a light rod with and extra sensitive tiped rod. I prefer that..

I have been fishing the micro ice for years, outside, in some very harsh conditions. Dealing with the ice build up is worth extra sensitive action. With my style of jigging, I need go be able to feel minisquel details about my lure, at 100' down sometimes. You just can't get the same feel with mono, IMO.

  7. Ya, my favourite little spot to grab cheap lunches on Tuesdays just recently increased their price from $3.00 for a meal up to $4.00.

I still go there every Tuesday. But that's $50 out of my pocket every year! I only keep going there because the food is really really good.

  8. What fish do you want to target?
Do you have sleds / quads? How far are you willing to travel on the ice to get to good spots?

There are tons and tons of lakes in your search criteria. But finding a winterized rental cottage would be the limiting factor I would think.

Knowing what fish your trying to catch will narrow down your search quite a bit.

  9. I know a few guys on this board who fish the lake quite a bit.

But they don't post much any more.

I've fished there are a few times.

Just head out on a weekend when there's a bass tournament. The lake gets completely packed with bass boats.. Follow them around.. Most of them know where the fish are!

I don't have a specific guide to recommend.
