  1. I am trying to remember the last time I caught a whitefish on Lake Simcoe. It's been a long time! I think it was the year that ice shelf broken off and floated out from shanty bay and all of the Fisherman had to be rescued.

    That's a LONG time ago!!

Either way, I finally broke the skunk! And man did it feel/taste good!

And to make it even better, I caught a laker about 45 minute later!

I only marked 8 fish all morning. But I hoisted 2 of them. So that's a pretty good day in my books!

5lb 4 Oz each. Both the exact same length! Pretty neat..

    My lucky Asian spot!

I can't get the direct photo link to work on my phone...

  2. I went to couch today.

    The fishing was slow.

But the ice was decent. Like others have said.

There's a decent amount of snow and slush. But it's not that deep. Absolute pain in my butt dragging the sleigh through it!!!

    F it, I'm building a Smitty!!

I had to peel my floater and one of my layers off and dry them in the hut..

Which limited me to fishing in the hut. I only managed 3 keepers.

  3. I saw an ice report from John Whyte that measured 5" of black ice on Couch.

It was on the LSMB Forum, Not sure the exact location. But I am going up tomorrow to poke a few holes and check the ice in a few spots.

If the ice is good, and I end up actually catching some perch, I'll be sure to post up a report for everyone!

  4. I'd hold off man.

I assume based on all the new gear, your just getting in to ice fishing?

The ice has been very sketchy this year.

Most places don't have a good base of clear ice. Just a lot of half frozen slush sitting on an inch or two of ice. With all the snow we have in this area, a few really cold nights aren't going to really change that. Unfortunately.

My early season spots in this area are usually locked up tight by now. But I still need to spud my way around. And have had my spud go through in one shot many times..

  5. My spud it around 5'. It works well.

It has a T handle. And a decently long tether rope. About 4' long.

One thing worth mentioning. If you plan on knurling the pole and T handle like I did.. Don't use to aggressive of knurling. I need to emery cloth mine down to make it less aggressive. It's ripping my gloves apart.

  6. Nice fish, you have good taste in augers as well!

My girlfriend bought me that last year for Christmas! I hardly use my power auger now.. So lights and stiff. Cuts like butter!

Nice bud. Nice hub too. LOL

This weekend is going to be the start. I cant take another weekend of not fishing.

I'm grounded this weekend. But good luck out there Bri!

Nice haul there Nick, won't be long now till I can get out, killing me with those slab pictures, we have pretty good crappie on our home lake now, five minute ride round our point….2 more days at work and then I'm off!!!!

We have around 12" of ice here now, love having the ice road, saves about 20 minutes of the ride to town.

Jesus Simon! That makes me jealous. I would have an amazing fish hut if I had a season that long! It would be like a second home.

Nice slabs Nick! You got me drooling! I'm 1 of those guys watching TV waiting for safe ice on Simcoe.

If I had to wait untill Simcoe froze over before I went out ice fishing,... I'd be one angry bear.

  7. I just signed up for Imgur.

Lets give this a try. SO far, it seems better than Photobucket. The pop-ups aren't there, and it seems more stable.

Here's my first Crappie of the season. Dec 16th.

47MxkLP.jpg Here's the keepers for the day. Not much to show for. But it's better than sitting in front of the TV! 4y6BIah.jpgThe hut...GiZQqxc.jpgAnd the short walk back to the truck.Zf7Teuv.jpgI'm not going to comment on the exact ice conditions. They where Crappie. Seriously. The ice is not safe yet. But I am very very safe while out there, will all of the gear, and a partner to help pull me out!Soon though. It will be good with a few more good cold nights.

  8. Anyone venture out this weekend?

Im getting eager to see some ice fishing reports!!

I made it out twice. Friday, and Today.

The ice in Simcoe County is rubbish at the moment. Because of that, we couldn't run and gun. Heck, we couldn't even make it to the honey hole.... Managed only 8 fish total..

Enough for a tasty fish fry for dinner that I just finished!!!

Anyone else make it out, and want to share some fish porn?

I'll post a few pics tomorrow...
