I'll be at Camp Panorama just east of Lavigne. Northwest Bay is huge so I usually fish the entire south shore all the way east to the back of middle west bay (great area for bass). On the north side I've gone as far as Camp LaPlage's Bay but not as far as Cache Bay. Thanks for the response. Laz

So I'm off to Northwest Bay of Lake Nipissing on Saturday for 5 days. I do know this section of the lake and do really well with smaller pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass. This section of Nipissing is consistantly shallow (basicly one gigantic flat) and doesn't get deeper then 9 feet. My question is...would musky be present in an area like this or would they primarily be in areas that have access to deeper water / channels??? I haven't caught one yet and have gone up to this spot 5 different times now. There is tons of structure though. Rock points, rock shoals, week beds and sunken islands. There isn't very much traffic on the water either. Almost the entire south shore has no cottages. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get at least one PB on this trip. Largemouth PB - 20" Smallmouth PB - 19" Pike PB - 26" Musky PB - 32" Pickerel PB - 25" If you know this area of Nipissing please let me know if I'm wasting my time targeting musky there. Middle West Bay does look promising of all the spots. Thanks Laszlo

so now that the raptors have signed jarred jack and rasho nesterovic (today hot off the press) what do you think of their up coming season??? i'm hoping they can still sign carlos delfino and i say if they do then they have a roster that can make the playoffs. the question is... can they make it to the second round?

Was wondering if any members are from Caledonia? Any of you attend McKinnon Park Secondary between the year in opened to 1997 or around there? Go to the old high school? It's been a while since I've seen some old fishing buddies from back in the day. Laszlo (les) Csordas

Hit the River yesterday evening. Total Hours Fishing: 3 Total Fish Landed: 7 All Smallmouth Bass with the largest being 14". Did snag into a 4lb sucker and also saw about a 5lb gar pike surface. Sorry no picks. My rule is the smallmouth have to be 15" or bigger to be deemed pic worthy. Till next time...

There are Largemouth and Smallmouth in Paudash with the average size being about 1 pound. Unfortunately there is a large amount of recreational sporting done on the lake (tubing, water skiing) so there is a lot of pressure on the fish. Also the massive over population of Rock Bass makes it hard to get good numbers of Smallmouth and Largemouth because they take your bait so fast. I would work the shoreline casting at overhanging trees, weed patches and docks. Some of the areas that look like prime Largemouth territory (large areas with lilly pads) are only 1 - 2 feet deep so if the water temp is above 75 the fish may not be there. I cottaged on that lake for 4 years. There is a great rock jumping spot there as well. Ask the locals and they'll tell you where it is.

Hit the River this morning. Sorry didn't bring the camera with me while I was wading. Didn't need it anyhow as I didn't get into a larger fish on this outing. Total Hours Fishing - 3 Total Fish Landed - 4 / 3 smallies and 1 rock bass Largest Fish 14" Today was the first time I hit the Grand this year that I didn't see any Gar Pike surfacing. Still haven't hooked into one yet. Also the small pickerel that we're biting earlier in the season haven't been biting on my last 2 outings. Earlier in the year they would bite mid-day but now very early morning or late late evening is only producing.

are there no basketball fans out there in fishing land?
-
I was wondering what some of you basketball fans out there (not too sure how many of you there are) think of the up coming Raptors season??? Let's say the starters are going to be: PG - Jose Calderon SG - Carlos Delfino SF - Hedo Turkoglu PF - Chris Bosh C - Andrea Bargarni and the bench being: PG - Roko Ukic SG - Demar Derozen SF - Devon George PF - Reggie Evans C - Rasho Nesterovic (this signing isn't done but i heard it may happen) Will this be enough to get into the post season and if so how far do you think they can go?

So now that we've had a few weeks of bass fishing, this is my Top 5 go to baits. 1) Texas Rigged Jigger Craw (using it for the first time this year...AMAZING!!!) 2) Texas Rigged Worm 3) Tube Jig 4) #4 Mepps Spinner Silver with Hooks Dressed 5) Grass Frog Honourable Mention: Yellow Spinner Bait with Silver Blades and Big O White Cotton Cordell Crank Bait. So what's your top baits?

My dog IDA. She can't get enough of the water. Also loves licking fish!!! Catches the odd cat fish that has been half killed by a heron when we go wading in the river together.

Best time of Day for Grand River Smallies

Waterford Ponds use to be really good when I was a kid. I fished for Bass there and would see people catch lots of sunfish and crappie. That was 10 to 15 years ago. I've gone back there a couple times in the last 10 years. The spots that I use to catch 4 to 5 fish now produce 0 to 1 fish. Southern Ontario has been hit hard over the last 20 years with people catching and keeping their limit every single time they go fishing.

So this report concludes my holidays for this time of the year. Looks like it's back to fishing 1 day a week or so until I'm off again at the end of July. Total Hours Fishing - 2 Total Fish Landed - 4 Largest Fish - 16" My brother in-law Andrew sporting the new waders I got him as a gift for graduating from U ot T. It's too bad he only caught 1 rock bass but he did hook into a huge smallie that took him into the branches of an overhanging tree. That was the end of that. Hopefully another report to come by the end of next week.

I use to live right around the corner from there off parkside drive. The Humber River is the nastiest water. Just north of the city there have been over 1,500 chemical and oil spills into the river over the last 9 years by industrial & commercial companies. I still live along the Humber but in North Etobicoke close to Humber College and have seen and reported paint cans, garbage bins and grocery carts being dumped in the river. It's really sad. Tried fishing the river 10 times now with only catching chub. Seen a couple carp and sucker and most times they are floating and half dead. Oddly enough just north of the industrial companies polluting it's waters is a healthy trout fishery.

I had a blast this morning fishing and plan to have some more this evening. I can think of a few reasons why bass fishing is so much fun. 1) Place casting. Makes it feel more like a sport with specific physical movement. 2) Surface strikes. Nothing beats seeing the fish take your bait. 3) Can you say Smallmouth Bass. What a great fighting fish. How can you not enjoy the fight of a 3 to 6lb Smallie??? 4) Finding Structure. 5) Catch and Release. Plus...you don't have to spend a lot of money to fish for bass. My gear is middle of the road and I only use 1 medium to heavy rod with a sensitive tip and I'm all set.

Just came in from fishing this morning. Will not reveal how I did just yet. Still have the afternoon / evening session to go. A full report with pics to follow. Let's just say so far the fish are hungry and feeding up BIG TIME after the spawn!!!

Nipissing North West Bay Pike Report June 20 - 22
laszlo replied to laszlo's topic in General Discussion
i also take my weimeraner (IDA) wading in the river with me. she can't get enough of the water and even catches the odd cat fish that's been partially stunned by a heron. i do have to leash her around my waste though because her fetch instinct is way too strong when she see's me cast. great dogs as long as you give them that 45 minutes of leash free play 5-7 days a week. as for me running and biking does the trick well. ida scanning for cat fish. after being outside swimming all day. -

Nipissing Bass report coming by Sunday / Monday AHHHHHH YAAAAAA!!! -
Finally got the chance to fish my favorite lake. 3 days of fishing. Total Hours on the Water - 15 Total Pike - 17 Best Day - 10 fish landed Largest - 25" X 2 Smallest - 14" Once again, was not able to catch a fish larger than 25". Three years in a row with the largest being that exact size. The section of the lake I fish has no deep water so that may play a factor as all the pickerel are in a different area of the lake. I have one more trip booked in August in the same area but next year I will be going to a different lodge on the lake where there is deeper channels mixed with shallow structure. Note that almost all pics were self timed and done alone as I was fishing by myself for the most part. My wife Anna did come out once with me to take a couple shots. All fish released! This is one of the longest ones I caught. Trying to self time the photo, in high winds, approaching a shoal, with bright sun, with the dog in the boat, was too tuff a task. Couldn't pass up some swimming being that the temp was 32 feels like 37 Crazy sunset to finish the trip off in style! Bass report coming up next by the end of next week!!!

then don't go there!

Fisherpete & Fisherpat's June Kawarthas Trip
laszlo replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
I too am a casting machine. When my brother in-law and I go on our fishing trip we must make a million cast by the end of it. We're good for about 30 minutes of trolling a day and the same for jigging. There's nothing better then finding structure and placing that perfect cast to be rewarded with a good size fish.
