Does anyone have any info on what the MNR plans on doing to improve The Credit River? I think there is a fish ladder at the Streetsville Dam but the dam itself is difficult to pass or can't be passed. Also I've heard that the Norval Dam can not be passed at all. Is the MNR working to address these issues? If so how would this improve the fishery? Thanks Laszlo

you can pretty much fish it all year long although the species you target and your level of success changes. April - Trout Opener. Lots of Suckers. May - Pike and Pickerel Opener. Trout now travel back down to the lake. Still lots of Suckers. June - Bass Opener July, August - Dog days of Summer - Bite can be slow and then random days are ON FIRE!!! Sept - Some Salmon then followed by Rainbows and some Browns. Bass and Pickerel fishing can pick up again. Oct - More Rainbows and still good for Pickerel and Bass Nov - Bass bite dies off but still good for Pickerel and Rainbows. Those are the months I fish. Dec., Jan., Fed., Mar., too damn cold for me.

Well...I'll be giving it a shot this weekend. Might be a bit early for the Rainbows but I know the Salmon have been running already for the past week. Worse case scenario - catch Smallies and Pickerle!!! Going to camp out for one night on an island with an old buddy at a nice secluded spot I found last year. Report to follow...

Let's all keep those good spots to ourselves and let most keep going to the damn. Does make me happy when I go to my money spot with it all to myself.

I was at the Old Mill today for a walk and saw a few jump over the damn with no problems.

I was wondering if anyone knew how far north the salmon are able to run up the Humber River in Toronto / Etobicoke? Are they able to pass both the damns at the Old Mill (Bloor Street)? What section do they spawn in? My backyards goes on to The Humber just behind Humber College and there's no sign of spawing waters or fish for that matter up here (well maybe carp, chub, sucker). Any info would be great. Thanks

what time of year did you catch that beauty? is it a waste of time targeting rainbows in sept. in the grand?
-
I thought so. Thanks for the info. I fished Whiteman's as a kid when I was living near Burford. It's a beautiful creek. I don't think there are as many trout now as there once was. I personally don't keep the fish I catch and never really have. Back in the early 90's when I was 15, people use to leave there with 5 to 10 fish every time I went. Now your lucky to get 1 or 2 and people still keep whatever they can get. It's really too bad.

i'm curious to see what species will be added to my original list.

I thought it would be interesting to see the species of fish people have caught specifically in Ontario. Here is mine. Musky Northern Pike Pickerel Smallmouth Bass Largemouth Bass Rainbow Trout (and smelts) Brown Trout Rock Bass Sheephead Perch Sunfish / Bluegill / Pumkinseed Sucker Carp Mooneye Hornyhead Chub Catfish Channel Catfish Crappie Longnose Gar Atlantic Salmon Smolts Haven't had the chance to target deep water species (eg. lake trout, salmon, whitefish) in my lifetime. Seems my obsession with place casting over trolling has kept me away from these guys.

River Fishing or Conservation Areas in the Rain?
laszlo replied to oates's topic in General Discussion
i've fished the grand many times within 24 hours of heavy rain and had NO LUCK. now light rain is do-able if you get there while it just starts or not too long after. i would hit a smaller lake myself. -
life style identification??? give me a break. advertising just drives me crazy.

i try my best to create as little waste as possible. if you put in the effort to think about it daily it's really not that hard to reduce the waste you create. naturally convenience and materialism has to be sacrificed to be successful as this. unfortunately about 90% of the population either could care less about this issue or talk like they care but do nothing about it. population growth is a 'major' issue but it's a very touchy subject for many. i don't see any problem with setting a limit to only two children per couple. less people, less waste, less pollution, more nature, sounds good to me...oh...and more fish!!! laszlo

What kind of snake is that by the way? Rattle Snake?

I do not own a boat. I always rent a boat which has all the necessary safety gear required by law. So does this mean I don't need the boaters card??? Just give me the facts straight up. Thanks Rick for the info but why are there a mix of opinions? Laz

Can someone please clear something up for me? I was born in 1977 I am a Canadian resident I usually rent a 17' boat with 25hp motor Do I require a boaters card by the Sept. deadline??? I was just reading some info on this on a website and the details were very confusing. Thanks Laz

They're great dogs. Like any other dog, they need to know who's boss. Also, because of their high energy, they require a good 30-45 minutes of off leash exercise every day so they settle in the house and are not a huge pain in the ass. Biking works well for that. Other then that...amazing animal. Great sense of humor as well.

She is a weimeraner. Weimeraner just may be the hardest word to remember. Oh, she also enjoys fishing herself...

Back to the real world after a 4 day trip to Lake Nipissing. Here's the numbers: Total Hours Fishing: 11 Total Fish Landed: 15 Was planning on doing about twice as much fishing as I did but rain and some major winds had me playing scrabble & taking afternoon naps. Let the pics begin... 17" Smallie caught right where a creek runs into a channel with a little current and rock bottom Also caught 5 Largemouth in this same channel. To both sides of the creek mouth there were lilly pads with nice calm water. It's too bad the largest one I caught was 15" so I didn't bother taking any pics of them. The lunker awaits me next time I guess. Same spot with the company of Mr. Great Blue Heron. The Pike situation was a little difficult with the combo of wind, rain and lack of sun. I did get a few with this 28"er being the biggest. Did fight well and a new Personal Best! This Smallie bit like a perch and then swam straight to the boat. I had no idea how big he was until he freaked out by the boat and suddenly became the best fighter I've ever caught. He measured up at 19.5". My new Personal Best! Hmmm........should i give ugly old sheephead a picture. Why not? Sorry but no Musky pics. 10 years since my last and counting. One day. Random pics. Run down nasty Motel. So that does it for my trips to Nipissing for this year. Well, maybe one more in Sept. if I'm lucky. Hope you enjoyed.
