I'm told by very good anglers that the main reason for going with light to extremely light braid (10lb down to 5lb) is stealth. Braid makes noise, in the water and going through your guides. The super light braid is a lot less noisey and therefore in high pressure,or with super negative fish it can make a big difference. It's similar to using fluro leaders or thin diameter leader. Some anglers believe, some think it's hokum.

    This is interesting.

Ive often wondered if the noise/vibration the braids make going  thru the rod guides impacts fish. Makes sense

    Hey Capt,

One more thought on Pigeon.  I recall reading years back (OOD?) that the Ministry created an artificial spawning reef off Big Island for the Walleye.  That might have a lot to do with numbers coming back.

    Cool. Hadn’t heard this  before.

98% of Balsam walleye are in the slot.

The mnr study's told them balsam walleye mature a little later .

What they didn't know was balsam walleye are deeper than most

cottage anglers can fish so they where missing the walleye on there trap nets.

The guy showed me a trap net location front of net in 8ft.

I tried for a bet 50 walleye by noon I stand on trap and cast out.

    No bite that time.

    98% are in which slot?

  4. I asked a CO at the Sportsman Show as to why the slots are opposite in Balsam compared the  rest of the Kawarthas. He didn’t know.  I was told before that the MNR didn’t know which way was best so they are experimenting with both.

I had a good year on Pigeon last year. Eyes in all sizes. Nice to see. A real joy to catch a big girl occasionally.  Best time for me was June/July.  Hope the spawn goes good this year.

  5. Took a drive to the cottage today.

Scugog causeway. No ice. South Pigeon. No ice.  Gannon Narrows. No ice. Bridgenorth causeway. Just a bit of wind blow ice. Rest clear.  North east Pigeon still iced up. Water levels rising but still 1 ft below summer levels.

Good tips guys. thanks. i never thought about dragging the bags from the bow cleats, i already have the drift socks, so I will try this out.

    .

I use a Minn Kota drift sock on the bow cleat on one side with a short rope extension. But not too long or it will get to the prop. Steering is challenging as the boat pulls to one side.  Just a tip. I’ve wrecked several drift socks by taking off without pulling them in. By the time you notice they’ve ripped apart. ?

  7. Pretty good show.  Decent hourly fishing seminars. Picked up a Muskie  Rod at the clearance booth for $50. Rapala  R-Type. Original price $259. Said it’s a discontinued rod. Crazy mark up on rods it seems.  Almost pulled the trigger on a TerraNova electric motor. Gotta measure the boat for shaft length ( old power drive)   Good day  - ended with nice sovlaki dinner at Zets
