  1. The news always shows the worst of the worst. I'm sure they got all their 'spectacular" footage at the very end of the day after everyone and their brother had run over the shore. I know personally, I'll be running my sled all over tomorrow. Both ATV's and sleds were running up and down IBP and BBP today. 6:30am tomorrow can't come fast enough! Cheers, Colin
  2. If you really want to use live bait there are a few shops around the area. Rack n' Reel at Tiffin st & Innisfil st in Barrie, Love to Fish in Lefroy, there's a bait shop right at Yonge St & Hwy 89 and I think the Gilford General store has them.
  3. No need for live bait. Grab some Williams 1/2 & 1/2's and some meegs/badd boyz along with some micro tubes and you're all set. Been fishing there for years and years and never used live bait.
  4. I had my ice fishing sled ('92 AC Pantera 440 l/c) going across Lake Simcoe last season at a whopping speed of 87 mph. lol I think that was about as fast the old girl could go......... plus I started skipping sideways! lol

  6. I use the small version of them for perch. I have used the larger ones for whities. Just trim the feather off and use a micro-tube instead. I much prefer badd boyz and meegs for lake simcoe.
  7. great idea!! I think there will be a shortage of Aluminum Pipe, Chain bolts, Chain Swivels, & Trailer quick connects in the near future. I especially like the sketch pad with the plans on it in the first pic.....was it crayola crayons or a sharpie???? hahahaha
  8. any fishfinder will work as long as you can mount the transducer so it get's down the hole and stays in the proper position. Granted, some finders are better then others but they will all do the trick. For years I used a Cuda 168 black and white finder....it's about the cheapest one you can buy at around $100. I've had a Lowrance x67c ice machine for 3 yrs and it is an awesome ice fishing finder. I was lucky enough to get mine on sale at the toronto sportsman show for $289.00. Cruise the fishing boards/forums buy and sell areas, kijiji, and even eBay......you might find a good deal.
  9. i got mine from the Mississauga LeBarons today and my buddy got his from Bass Pro.
  10. I'll be out off of gilford tomorrow morning bright and early. Hopefully I have the same luck as sunday and monday....my buddy and I caught well over 300 in the 2 days....kept approx. 60 for a nice fry. Biggest one of the day was 13". It was lots of fun "sight-fishing".
  11. I'm sure the residents will have to pick up a window sticker just like they have in the spring/summer. I know where I WONT be going to park now........or, i can just get my Alcona friend who doesn't ice fish to grab me a sticker.
  12. Personally, I'd look into getting a Flip-over style hut simply due to the easy of set-up and take-down....especially in the windy conditions. Plus, you can store most of your gear inside the attached sled. Yes, they may be more pricey...but well worth it IMHO. My 2cents. Colin
  13. Hey Ryan....you forgot to add the googly eyed steelie from a few weeks ago!! Still laughing about that one! colin
  14. In my permanent hut I once had I built a wood stove using an old 20lb propane tank. I flipped it upside down(valve side down), cut a window in the side, attached some hinges, cut a hole in the top and attached some venting to the top of it. I then installed a grill to the inside so i could place chunks of those "java logs" on it. It worked amazing. My hut was 4X6 and it heated it up perfectly. I did have pics but can't find them. C.
  15. Well, I mainly fish Lake Simcoe in the winter for lakers and whities and I spool my reels with 8lb power pro (red) and tie on a 6 or 8lb flouro leader. Obviously you'd use a lighter line for perch. my 2 cents. Colin
  16. I think that what you are fishing for will determine what your set-up should be. What will you be fishing for mainly???
  17. I have a Toyota FJ cruiser which has a pretty good stock roof rack. When I carry my canoe, I just add my Thule cross-bars to give me a little more width to set the canoe on. I then use 2 ratchet straps and that's it.
  18. Here's my 92 arctic cat pantera 440 l/c. Nice little 2-up sled. I'll be towing a Guide this season. Come on snow!! Colin
