Congrats on your topwater largie. How are the weeds at the Berg right now? I usually steer clear a couple weeks after pike opens.

Great report and pics. It looks like a nice overcast morning, just perfect for topwater.

Sunday morning at 8am the Shipper & I put our boats in the river behind the Grand Hotel. The river is at late summer low levels and we scratched our boat bottoms in several sections of the river. The most productive stretches of river were behind the Lanc Hotel and behind the Humane Society. I ended up with 11 smallies none bigger than 12", all were hooked on a 1/16oz jig & grub combo.. The Shipper caught 6 smallies, all on a bitsy bug with a double tailed bungee grub. His biggest was this 16" smallie. We pulled out at the Freeport bridge at 4pm. It was a long hot ride down the ole Grand, but enjoyable none the less.

Good job boys. Is it just the black shirts or did you guys both drop a few pounds since last summer?

Musky, Toronto Multicultural Pike and Meat rental
jediangler replied to snag's topic in General Discussion
Nice work. I don't know about the inflatable kayak and treble hooks though. I think I'd be more likely to rent meat. -
Thanks for the report. I have a couple of friends that are going to Chemong with their families in a couple of weeks. I know what you mean about the passports. I haven't gone to the U.S. since they made it mandatory for Canadians to have a passport to enter. I wondered why it didn't apply to Americans coming here. Soon that'll change and everyone will need a passport to cross in either direction.

Nice fish, can you imagine how much harder it would have pulled if it had a whole tail? Congrats!

Hey ADC, there are some good bass at Eugenia, but it will be crazy at the launch on Saturday. The opener is the only day of the year that they collect cash for using the boat ramp. Once you're on the water there is plenty of room for everyone. I'll be waiting till Sunday to try my luck at home here on the Grand river. When it comes to smallie fishing, why travel when some of the best is in my backyard.

Pics of underwater and above water life around the shoreline
jediangler replied to dsn's topic in General Discussion
Nice pics. Tim Horton's should be doing more to show their customers the impact that littering has on the environment. Maybe some of dsn's pics with wildlife and Timmy's garbage in the backround. Hey, that sounds like an idea for a gallery show. Why is it coffee drinkers and smokers can't get their act together? -
Try throwing spinnerbaits along deep weed edges. The Gannons narrows area offers lots of deep weedlines.

We used to go to Elephant every year for our musky hunt. That is until 2001 when all we caught was pike. The lake contains many good sized bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. We hooked quite a few on bucktails while trying for musky. The lake is very weedy with a sandy stretch in the south end. Try sluggos and tubes as well as spinnerbaits for bass. My guess is you'll catch more small pike than anything else. There is a small chance you'll get into a natural tiger musky which would be a bonus. Good luck.

Thanks all. I'll have to try that inverted figure 8 idea tonyb. TbayBoy I have tried a sit on top but it was a tandem. I plan on renting one from Adventure Guide in Waterloo for bass opener.

Nice tiger musky dude, congrats.

Nice work, what a great way to spend Pop's day.

Returned to Sturgeon lake and fished the same area I fished 2 weeks ago on the opener. Started at 6am and fished till 8am. Caught this 29"er at 7:30am on a Mepps musky killer bucktail in about 7ft of water. Put up a good fight and soaked me when I got it beside the yak. Then I threw the yak back on the roof of my car and headed over to Pigeon lake. I was hoping to go two for two in Kawartha musky lakes. I fished behind Big island from 9:30am till noon without so much as a follow. Packed up and went home to KW, putting 560km on the car round trip. That's 3 muskies this year so far but all of them under 30". Has anyone caught muskies in more than one Kawartha lake in one day? I guess getting one in Pigeon and one in Buckhorn in the same day is probably not that unusual. Or maybe Buckhorn and Chemong. Just wondering. I see this week in the Crappy tire flyer that my kayak is on sale again for $299 down from $349. You can't find a cheaper fishing machine anywhere. Add $100 for a paddle and another $100 for a good PFD and a car top carrier kit and you're ready to fish almost anywhere.

Nice Musky, congrats. Great report and video/pics. Nice stick too, or should I say nice tree.

My Ontario Fish Quest continues with a new species.... well almost!

Great report. Too bad about the one that got away. My guess for a healthy 32" pike would be around 8lbs. That dizzy feeling might be sunstroke or motion sickness. Try a gravol pill and go to bed. -
Welcome to the board. How about an intro?

Buy the map at the gate. Fish the road beds and more specifically the ditches beside the roads. Try and locate the foundations of the farm houses and barns located on the map. Here are a selection of pics from Guelph lake taken over the last decade or so from my trips there. 35" pike taken on a football jig with a spidergrub around 12yrs ago. 13.75" crappie caught on a 1/16oz jig & grub combo 2 yrs ago. 19.75" smallie caught on a 1/8oz jig & grub combo 2 yrs ago. I've caught many nice largemouth there as well but the pics are not yet digitized.

I was a Cub and then a Scout. Still remember those trips to Everton Camp along the Eramosa river.

Are you limited to shore fishing or do you have access to a boat?

I always thought that if they did a movie it should take place when Tony's Dad and Uncle Junior were Younger. Kinda like the flashbacks Tony had about his sister going to the fair. I'd love to see Jonny Soprano put bullet through Livia's beehive hairstyle.

Great pics Lew. There's nothing like getting someone into their first musky, well done.

Congrats man, she looks like a keeper.

Welcome to the board. Try a 6" piece of electrical tape on your spool after you make your first cast. Wind the tape on the spool as you reel in. This way you can't cast past this point and shouldn't have any problems. Other than that, keep adjusting your brakes/magnets until you get the hang of it. If it gets you down, go back to a spinning rod. You can pick up the baitcaster again later on. If you are frustrated you won't enjoy yourself and that's what it's all about. Good luck.
