  1. thats when knowing people along the border is nice...they can pick up your package at a fedex store...bring it across the border... then ship it to you... i order to ny state and its a 10 minute drive plus customs each way to pick it up... and i buy my gas over there anyways so the trip doesnt add to the cost of the rod...
  2. get it checked... i know a guy who got blood poisoning from the same situation
  3. i destroyed one of these in one season http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Fishing-Tools/Landing-Nets-Seines|/pc/104793480/c/104720580/sc/104427180/Ego-Generation-2-Silder-Net/1374360.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FN%3D1100393%26WTz_l%3DSBC%253BBRprd739354&WTz_l=SBC%3BBRprd739354%3Bcat104427180 the handle doesnt slide anymore the foam on the handle has peeled and the mesh has holes ripped in it by hooks/fish and the threads holding the handle in the hoop are stripping...(plastic)
  4. on days when i cant fish i like see how long it takes to cut the net with different butter knifes... it may be the 1000+ fish that get put in the net a year... and when you consistently get 5-8 pound walleye on a daily basis..on cranks... they can do some damage thrashing around with trebles hanging out... and hey... maybe all my nets have been poop... thats why im asking what nets you guys like... i know where to get nets... and ive heard who makes good nets... but what i really want to know is what nets or should i say what models have performed well for you...? im looking for a net that can handle fish up to and over 10 pounds... and is easy on the trebles... thanks again for all the help so far...
  5. For getting bites... Corn is great...I also add some plastic corn for buoyancy and durability... However... If you get to the point that your catching too many fish and want to start weeding out the smallest ones... Some 20mm boilies are great... This WILL up your average size of carp but your numbers will drop a bit...
  6. hey all... i am looking for a high quality net that will last me a long time... i seem to be going trough a net every 2 years... which personally i dont find acceptable... i dont need any bells and whistles... i dont want telescoping because thatll just break anyways... im looking for a net with a hoop around 24-26 inches... that can handle bigger walleye... and a 48+ inch handle... i cant decide on mesh material... fine...rubber... knotless nylon... ive had knotless nylon... and found the hooks get hung up on every fish... i currently have fine mesh and find the hooks stay out better... but when they do get caught its harder to get em out... and ive heard rubber is too shallow... and heavy if your fishing solo... so im leaning towards fine mesh/fin saver style mesh... anyway... any help is appreciated... thanks mike
  7. I've never had a musky bite through 100lb flouro... On a side note... I boated 20+ musky while fishing walleye last year... With 10lb power pro and 20lb mono leader... Didn't get bit of once last year... However... Pike tend to inhale baits a bit more then musky... .
  8. I'm gunna assume it was a method feeder... And if your getting tangles... You probably doing something wrong... They are virtually tangle free set ups... That's one of the major advantages to that system... As far as helicopter rigs... They are only as good as the meterials used... I personally find a "bolt rig" with a coated hook link material and a proper cast with a nice arc to it almost never tangles... Using inline leads also helps to prevent tangles...
  9. Well I've had you both in my boat at the same time (scary...lol)... And im gunna give you guys a tie... Even tho Paul is still rough around the edges... At least he fishes walleye and musky...lmao...
  10. Nice catch... I'm a big guy and my fish never look their real size... I have a pic with a 7.5lb smallie but it looks like a 4-5 pounder... It's frustrating... That's why I fish with smaller friends of mine...lol... Makes the fish look huge...
  11. Thanks... I'll take a look... I really appreciate it...
  12. awesome.... glad you had a fun time paul... but... now that you have a high end rod... your gunna end up wanting to replace all your others... break out the VISA...lol
  13. I had one chunk of the impeller make it right to the system and plug the outflow nozzle...
  14. I have the 2 filter plates on the sides of the lower unit... And one small filter plate under my cavitation plates... Are one of these what your talking about? Do you have a picture? And bill I have no gauges on my motor...so I don't know my pressure... But I'm thinking if a piece did flow into something... It may flow backwards.... I'm hoping anyways... I still have decent flow... Just not the normal "jet" of water...
  15. Is there an easy way to flush the water cooling system on an outboard... I have a Honda 40 hp... I changed the impeller on my water pump and didn't gain much flow back so I'm thinking that some of the old broken impeller is causing blockage somewhere... It was pretty beat up... Can I jimmy rig a hose to the water exit hose and flush backwards with the filter plates off of the lower unit...? Or compressed air? Or any other way? Thanks Mike
  16. Emergency location device... Theyre a life saver for any outdoorsman in a pickle.. And who better to buy you such a thoughtful gift then your loving family...
  17. I'm willing to drive far if the price is right... But I have some prices from the USA side and compared locally and they're a heck of a lot cheaper ... Like $2,000 cheaper for a 40-50hp tiller... If anyone can get close to USA prices I would drive as far as the GTA to get it.... Any further would have to be a steal... Cause towing to GTA with my truck will cost a lot... My top 3 brands in order are Yamaha Suzuki Mercury But price may effect that order...lol... And it's very cery close between the 3... And if there's any dealers here shoot me a pm on the price of a 40 and 50 tiller with electric trim of whatever brand you deal with...I'm guessing nobody on Ontario can touch USA prices for reasons outside their control... But it's worth a try... Thanks again for the help Mike
  18. So With all this talk about delays and so on... I'm wondering a few things... I plan on buying a new motor... I want it on my boat and rigged in march... Early April at the latest... So how early do I need to order it to garauntee this deadline... I'm hoping to have the money I need by fall... Ice up at the latest... Do dealerships get more then one shipment a year...? If I order by year end is that sufficient amount of time...? Or am I better off just calling around to find what I'm looking for and drive to go get it...? Thanks Mike
  19. I say zero dead fish at the scales... After that... If they swim away... Assume they're ok...what else can you do? I have a live well that isn't equipped with a recirculate pump...only an aerator/fill pump and I don't have issues keeping walleye alive for 8+ hours... So I say there's no excuse for weighing in dead fish... They shouldn't be allowed in a tournament...
  20. not in my experience here...is your experience on a river or lake? cause suspended walleye are fairly rare in my area of the st.lawrence...that i know of... most walleye fisherman i know are fishing on bottom or within 5 feet of it... if history has taught me anything... those fish were raising up and getting ready to feed on the shallow water at dark... thats just what ive seen many many times here... keeping in mind that they were only 100-200 feet from the structure i was fishing... as i came off of the underwater point it dropped off into a major channel and that was what was on the drop off...
  21. lol... i only got one outta that group... i didnt have the time to play around for fussy suspended fish... i only had 2 hours to fish before work... i was hitting all my top spots i could... 4 walleye in 2 hours...
  22. walleye fishing has been on fire... on average im boating a fish every half hour and solid quality fish as well with plenty of fish over 25 inches... theyre still on the move but theyre around... just gotta look a little harder and a little bit deeper then the regular summer depths... got out tonight and saw this at multiple spots... now read this next line with al lindners voice in your head...lol the walleyes stacked like cord wood...
  23. carp fishing is actually one of the biggest tourist attractions in our area and way more popular then walleye and musky with tourists... thats why i was asked for a pic with a carp and not a musky or walleye...
