  1. But above the dam here there's plenty... And big too.... The spring tourney usually gets pike over 15 pounds....
  2. Got out early today as well as yesterday.... Trying to get ready for a walleye tourney next weekend... And this morning I caught a pike... It was about 6-7 pounds... This may not sound interesting but in my area I dont see very many pike.... This is my first pike this year on my home water... Believe it or not I only get 1 or 2 a year fishing walleye and musky.... There is good pike fishing in the spring... But after that they kinda disappear.....
  3. thanks marc... very good information for all there.... and thanks roy for gently pushing marc to educate everyone... marc is an angler to look up to and we can all learn a LOT from him
  4. It's how he pays his bills... And he's probably booked way in advance because of his reputation.... So to cancel 2-3 weeks of bookings your talking about a good chunk of his annual income... He is very experienced and will obviously go to great lengths to ensure the health of the fish like most musky anglers.... ...
  5. I had that happen in a boat... I figured musky or pike.... On a dock is say turtle or animal... I left a stringer of bullhead catfish hanging from the dock overnight... In the morning they were all gone and the stringer was out of the water laying on the dock... Just a few jaw bones left... I figured mink or coons did the damage... Those mink can be tough little critters... One time I put a few walleye in a big water tank to clean in the morning... By morning they were all gone... And one was 4-5 pounds... There were 3-4 fish in there... Then we saw the little footprints and figured out it was the minks...
  6. Nice fish... We had some extended releases during that heat wave... Just a matter of holding their tail until they let you know they're ok...
  7. Pedistal butt seat if you like casting... Regular sit down seat if you like jigging all day.., Or get both like me.... If I'm going casting I use my high butt seat... If I have 3 people in the boat I use the regular seat.... And if I'm jigging I'll use a regular seat on a seat post...
  8. When dad did my basketball net post..... He dug a hole... Put a cardboard tube in the hole... Surrounded the tube with stone dust... Put the post in the cardboard tube... Then filled the cardboard tube with cement... Lasted many years of monkeys hangin from the rim... The post ended up rusting out...
  9. My buddy had a Scotty ripped off the back of his boat... I dont trust them for musky fishing... I use down east rod holders... They're great...
  10. The longest my boat went without running in the last year or more was 2-3 weeks... I don't think fuel and or parts can break down in that amount of time...
  11. I had a musky grab a 5 pound walleye a couple weeks back... So a 6 pound pike being hit by one doesn't sound out of the norm to me...
  12. Gotcha... Been cut off over there before...
  13. I wanna know where you got that pike... I wanna go find the musky that tried to eat it...
  14. It's actually a super tough area they were in... Dangerous rocks... Deep structure... The flooded areas of the seaway are a whole different beast because a lot of the stucture under water is man made and whatever isn't is still "young" and hasn't been shaped by the current as much as non flooded areas... Most guys I know there target walleye in 80 feet of water... It's weird.... Glad my advice helped Paul... Hopefully you get to fish the other area I told you about... Loads of fish there...
  15. Well your a lucky man.... I catch a LOT of walleyes and I have plenty of days were I have to work hard for my fish.... Some days it seems like you can't do anything wrong... Other days are pretty humbling....
  16. I'm not knocking the kawarthas... I wish I had a lake to go cast and get 5-10 musky...sometimes...
  17. Lol He gets to fish the st.lawrence... Compared to the fish on the Larry... Kawartha fish are dinks... On average anyways....
  18. Where are you and how for you wanna drive? There's some great camping on the st Lawrence river... The long sault parkway is awesome... Several islands to choose from... Great fishing either on the open st.lawrence or in the "lake" created by the parkway road... Lotsa bass pike walleye carp perch... Bathroom buildings... Shower facilities... And plenty of waterfront sites... And if you get a day of nasty weather your an hour from Ottawa or Montreal.... And half hour from USA border....
  19. Hole shot was brutal unless I kept the choke out a bit... When choked it felt fine and hole shot was 90% normal... Wasn't really surging... But if I put the choke back to normal it would very slowly drop from 28mph to 20... Anyways... Slammed a can of seafoam into 2 gallons of gas and ran her for a bit... Then stopped... Drained the carbs... Then ran it again for a while.... Then I hit the water and it seems better... Something just felt a bit "off" to me... But I'm back to 28-30 mph wich is top speed in my boat...
  20. From what I found online it is most likely one of my 3 high speed jets is plugged.... So I'm dumping a bunch of seafoam in her and running her... And yes... I wanna just go buy the yammy sitting at Clayton marine tomorrow...
