Ok that's good to know. I'll try in next time I'm out there. For most of the spots I fish the crappies are deep 20'.

with regards to zoom. The bottom say 5 feet or less is really where you need it. If a fish is holding close to the bottom the zoom can help show if in fact it is fish or not. To zoom say mid water column or higher is really not needed because nothing can really hide when it suspends so to be able to zoom anywhere in the water column is really not needed.

The version of vex I bought has the dual transducer. It's the way to go for sure. Good luck which ever you buy.

I bought a vex FL-18 last year. Then the humminbird units came out. They look nice but the price was a bit more money. I guess if I didn't already buy the vex I would have considered those units. The only thing is being so new, are all the bugs figured out and how long will they hold up. You know the vex units have stood the test of time. To new to tell so I guess if you have the extra money go for it.

I've fished scugog in the caesarea area in 10-15' of water and I fished it late at night in the pitch dark. I had some nice action with a few nice crappies + some gills and perch. Hit the same area in the day time and didn't do as well. So maybe the nite bite is better. Day time wife getting in on the action

In the winter crappies move to deeper water. So depending on the lake your fishing deep water may be 10' or 50'. This is were gps comes in handy. If you know where some deep weed lines are that is a great place to start. Also I use a flasher and this actually shows me if there is any fish down the hole. Without this you'll probably be putting in a lot more time in locating them. Some lakes may be featureless in the main basin and they may just hover within 5' of the bottom. So in you don't have a flasher just start at the bottom and keep working your way up in 1' increments as a guide. Good luck out there. I hope this puts you in the right direction.

I would change the line to a super line. I use crystal ice 4lb test 1 lb diameter and you can't beat the stuff. You feel the lightest tick. Also check out how smooth the drag on the reel is. If you target bigger species you might want to invest in a better reel with a better drag. If you just fishing pan fish your combo should do you just fine. Good luck

Hi does anyone know who's selling these reels. Bass pro, Lebarons? Thanks
-
I have experience with shimano reels and models like the citica, curado, are very good reels. For your first one I know the temptation is to get a cheaper one, then as you get used to using it you will want to up grade. But if you get a good one right of the hop you'll have it for a long time and have no need for and upgrade. If your budget will allow for a better one go for it if not then I would save up. Bass pro has a sale every year and you can't beat the price for some of the reels that go on sale and they are top quality. I would wait for then unless you get one for a great price. Good luck

you can get a nice set at costco with 3 lenses.

there was a walleye tourny last weekend on the lower grand (dunnville) and lots of walleye were caught. Go down there and jig near the dam and you will get on them.

I would say you can still use crankbaits but I would use them later in the day when the water temp goes up a bit and I would use a smaller profile bait and work it back to the boat much slower. You should still get some reaction bites that way. Also I'd look for deeper weed beds as the bass will probably be in deeper water this time of year. Good luck.

consider looking at the new E-tec's. Pretty impressive I say. Check out their web site, lots of comperison's.

If you go to any tackle shops or bass pro they will have pretty much what you need it terms of a float suit. I know almost every year canadian tire will have a mustang suit on sale for a great price. I would keep my eye out for that sale. It's the best price for a nice suite you'll find. I personally like a 2 piece suite so if it get's hot I can just take off the jacket portion and still have the bib pants. Some like the one piece, you'll have to try one on and see what you like. Good luck

Where did you see it and what was the price. I'm sure it's a nice reel.

What kind of GRIP do you prefer for your rods?
ld17 replied to rbaquial's topic in General Discussion
I heard once many moons ago that cork is warmer in the winter and cooler to the touch in the summer. That's two tumbs up for me. Then again look at the new Rapala rods and the high end shimano or diawa rods and they have foam go figure. -
I believe our launch is the Queenston boat launch so it should be open. That's all I can tell you.

I have one and it works good. If it's windy out it sometimes blows the piolt light out and the heater will turn off. You can mod it with a DIY wind protector and that will solve that problem. Other than that it puts out some nice heat. I use it for ice fishing in a fire rated hut. I would not use it in a tent that is not fire rated or you could have major problems with the tent going up in flames. If you use it in a car I would also say no. You would obviously have to have the windows open or you could die from monoxide poisoning. As far as using propane indoors I would think it is safe enough. You would never want to store the propane indoors though. This heater is not ment to be used indoors. Play it safe. If you have any more questions let me know.

great advice guys thanks. I guess the boat would be in the 17.5-18 foot range. I really don't like the look of a full windshield, but do like the look of the dual with sport shield. I like that you get more room with just one console but realize 2 gives more protection. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just would hate to make a mistake. I do fish with my wife from time to time so I'm sure she'd like the protection. Ok looks like I will end up going for the dual in the end. Thanks again.

I'm looking into buying a deep v boat and would like opinions on single or dual consoles. Do people that have the single wish they went dual and dual wish they had single. More protection vs more room. Thanks
