  1. FYI anyone looking to order in Canada - the standard is $49.99 and commercial $83. Here's the contact info for us: Canada Forster Instruments Mississauga Ontario PH: 905-795-0555 Fax: 800-632-9943 Toll free within Canada: 800-661-2994 Contact: Theresa Heal
  2. Thanks Sinker. At what year would you say they made a significant improvement on the noise of them? 95? 2000?
  3. I have a 15hp 2 stroke that I'm thinking about trading up for a 20 or 25hp motor. It early 90's, and I find her fairly noisy. 4 Strokes have my attention, but was curious if the newer 2 strokes from Johnson/Merc/Yamaha are considerably quieter than their older counterparts. What do you think?
  4. Hi all - I've been looking at motors and seem to see many Johnson's for sale. I heard they went under - would there be any concern about buying one for parts? Are they still pretty reliable with the newer models they made before they went down?
  5. I'd like to get that one, but would like to save the $ from ordering down south if possible. If not than I'll order one up sounds like a nice piece of equipment....and key when trying to figure out optimal prop size.
  6. I'd like to revive this thread. Does anyone know where I can get the Tiny Tach in Canada OR another similar device that will do my 2 cylinder outboard?
  7. You can't get rid of the added weight from a four stroke. What ever motor you get - go with the max power. Do it once, do it right. For arguments sake, would a 20hp 2-stroke be about the same speed on his boat as a 25hp 4 stroke given the weight difference? Anyone: How efficient are the new 2-stroke outboards (non-etec). From the article about they were comparing the Direct injected 2 strokes vs. 4 strokes. Other than the Etec I don't believe they come in as low as 25hp?
  8. It surprises me how many people eat such big fish out of the great lakes though...well over the recommended size according to the guide and big trophies too! Anyone have any info on toxin content on beef or poultry? That would be interesting to compare vs. the fishies.
  9. Why don't you get the Rogers Rocketstick or portable internet? Xplorenet isn't very good I've heard this from so many people. http://www.rogers.com/web/content/internet...ternetexplained Longpoint has coverage for them I believe and it's around 40-50/month no more than most connections.
  10. I have a v6 sedan with a 200hp motor and upgraded brakes, no tranny cooler yet but have a tranny temp gauge. I tow my boat no problem (600lbs loaded with the trailer), but it really comes down to weight distribution on the trailer as well how it stresses the car (tongue weight, tire size, trailer levelness etc) . Always stick to what your owners manual says!
  11. On a small boat like BillyBob said I'd be going with the 2 stroke. Weight is crucial - 43lbs less + 5 extra ponies will be really nice! plus you're saving money. I think Yamaha is the only one that does 100:1 mix though?
  12. I'll give them a shout thanks alot guys Kijiji is pretty dry right now but it'd be nice not to have to pay tax from the marina you know!
  13. Just gave them a shout no luck though out of stock. Anyone else in the area worth a call?
  14. I'm doing some shopping for some relatives and was wondering what marinas around the Lindsay area might have some used smaller outboards and possibly 12-16ft aluminums for sale? Just wondering who you would recommend to go see.
  15. I was there two weeks ago in the pouring rain and it was really slow.
  16. I'd get a 2 stroke 25hp on that boat, especially if you plan to add flooring, batteries etc. It'll really move with a 25 on there. Try to find a 2 stroke that is a few years old that runs 100:1. Oil injection is way better though if you can find one. An Etec or 4 Stroke you're looking at about 40-50lbs of more weight in a 25 I believe.
  17. I have a 14ft aluminum....if you want decent speed with three people I'd get a 20-25hp. I've used a 9.9 and 15 and they aren't enough once you put in a floor, trolling motor, batteries etc and 2-3 heavy guys. Kijiji has lots of good deals on these boats. If you're handy you can really go to town and make these boats work really well! For $6000 you can get an amazing setup!
  18. I run a 24V setup however use two of these to charge my Optimas separately: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Au...y%2BCharger.jsp Best chargers on the market and have a ton of safety protection on them...plus you can leave them plugged in for months as they have a trickle mode. Come with little connectors so you can just plug n play when you need a charge. If you charge them both at once you run the risk of cooking both batteries if one is bad. I'd charge separate for the little extra time/money to save your batteries and be safer.
  19. Just wondering if any local fisherman in the Lindsay could shoot me a PM. have a few questions on some spots I'm eyeing up. They're off the beaten path so I don't want to broadcast here just yet. thx, scugog.
  20. I read there was a fish kill in here a while back. Anyone been on this pond lately? Is there any walleye or just musky & bass?
  21. most marina should be able to get springfield taper lock stuff. Hully in London and proctor marine in simcoe has them I believe....if not can order them.
  22. I currently have my gas tank and 2 40lb batteries behind me in my 14ft. I do have a 70lb minnkota and a casting deck up front though. When I'm alone its not bad though....although I'm thinking of running one battery up front to see if that helps plane things out.
  23. Hi all - might think of booking a spot at emily in a few weeks. could someone PM me some decent campsites if you frequent the area? Not sure what spots would be a good site. 2 people and tents
  24. I ended up buying a CTEK US3300 charger for my Optimas. Even Optima recommends them! http://www.ctek.com/PDF/MUS3300_flyer_US_low.pdf Charges the batteries fast and they don't hiss or anything. I think the charger I had even though on deep cycle/2A it was too high of voltage for the Optimas. Definitely recommend the CTEK's.
