Usually I like 30 to 40 feet but this spot is part way down a steep drop. It is only a few yards from 50 FOW. -
We've moved up 3 places in the standings in the last day and a bit. We're 5th in our buget group and 6th overall!!!!! We are within reach of 4th in our group as we are only 300 votes behind and we have gained 100 votes on them since yesterday. OH yeah, almost forgot we're at 2682 votes and counting.

So I got together with a buddy and hit a new to me lake today. We hopped into the car with the outside temp hovering at -28 degrees. :woot: We left the main road and traveled 5 KMs down a side road where we turned onto a 4X4 trail and drove for another 4.5 KMs through some pretty challenging obstacles before parking and heading down a quad/snowmachine trail on foot for the final kilometer of the journey. I wish I had photos of the one sketchy spot I had to negotiate. My buddy said I had about an inch of clearance between the front bumper and ground and my passenger back wheel was in the air while decending and I heard my trailer hitches draw bar hit the ground when I pulled up and out of the ravine. This is what greeted us at the end of the trail. I think we landed about 10 or 12 decent lakers between 2 and 4 pounds or so (nothing big but we lost another 15 or more) and my buddy had one pike in the 10# plus range on for a second. Seems I took a lot more pictures of my buddy than I got of me. The hot lures were airplane jigs and white tube jigs tipped with shiner minnows. We kept 3 for the table and put the rest back. It was an excellent day and we were comfortable in my 2 man cube with my 14,000 btu sunflower style Mr. Heater cranking. I don't think we would have lasted an hour without it. The wind started to blow about 20 kmh around 1:00 and the wind chill would have been in the -40 range. We got back to the truck after the sun had set and air temp was -29C. We were fishing in 18 to 20 feet and had 4-5 inches of ice under us. As I'm sitting here in my living room watching the Leafs game on the big screen I'm still not thawed out and I'v been home for an hour and a half!!!! I can't wait until next weeks adventure!!!

Yep, I loves me Lowrances too!!! I have had 4 or 5 over the years and still have 3 of them. My current one is 15 years old (LMS-350) and replaced an X-16 paper graph. It's time to upgrade and the minute I win the lottery there will be a herd of HDS units on my boat.

The only floats I have used for the last 20 years are balsa with natural bottoms. I don't have any issues catching fish. Here's some of my last batch before the clear coat went on.

I thank you and the puppies and kittys of the NWT thank you.

The Darwin Awards Are Out! Yes, it's that magical time of year again when the Darwin Awards are bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us. Here is the glorious winner: 1. When his 38 caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach , California would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked. And now, the honorable mentions: 2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger.. The chef's claim was approved. 3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her. 4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies.. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days. 5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit. 6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer... $15. [if someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?] 7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly.. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape... 8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from." 9.. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti , Michigan at 5 A.M., flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast... The man, frustrated, walked away. [*A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER] 10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street by sucking on a hose, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

Yellowkinfe SPCA needs your help. We are trying to become one of the winners a contest put on by Aviva Insurance. In the NWT we really need a proper animal shelter for unwanted pets. In our bush communities when someone doesn't want their pet they are just taken to the dump and shot. To me this is unacceptable and I urge you to vote to help us make it into the next round. If we garner enough votes in this third round of voting to be in the top 90 we will make it into the semi finals where we will have to be in the top 30 to make it to the finals. Please help me and our unwanted pets build a warm, safe and comfortable place for them. You need to register to vote and you can vote once a day between now and Nov 25th. Aviva Community Fund Contest
