You need a decent amount of flow in order for the baitcasting setups to work for float fishing.
This is why they are popular out West. The rivers out this way are mostly high volume/high gradient waterways that work well with baitcating outfits.

Get used cats from the wreckers as they are probably the spendy part of your system and go from there I would say. Then drive it until it falls apart.

I too have a 2011 f150 fx4 - ecoboosted with the short box. I have had no problems at all with it. Gas mileage is great on the highway just So-so in town. When those turbo's kick in, it will throw your head back in the seat!
Rob C
What kind of mileage are you getting Rob?

Ill also comment that i do have an issue currently when i accelerate from a stop while turning (left or right). I get a rumble sound the first few seconds of accleration almost as if 4WD is stuck or something. Have to take it in soon to see what thats all about. Not to hi-jack, but if any ford owners have experienced this......feel free to comment
I had a similar issue on my old Bronco.
It turned out to be a rear diff issue.
Luckily it was covered under the powertrain warranty as the cost was just over $1k and that was 20 years ago.

I bought a brand new Garmin 120 portable off ebay a few years ago for $120 + delivery.
Great little starter or portable unit for little $$$ and it works quite well.

willing to try the cats in Dunnville this Sat.(Mar. 17) with a 12' canoe.
Will stay on the water within 300 meters away from the fishmasters dock.
2 factors to consider:
- 20 kmh wind.
- Waves created by those passing by boats.
Would it be safe enough? anybody have been canoe fishing there before under similar or worse condition?
Appreciate any comment.
Thanks!
I think you will be OK.
I once saw a 12' boat with 5 or 6 people fishing out of it down there one time.
I seem to recall 2 adults and 4 kids in the boat.
I was standing on the dam at the time.
The water is very cold, make sure you wear your PFD. Cold water will kill you in a hurry.
One April we were fishing the spring tourney down in St. Kitts out of my buddies 36' sportfish in some 4 footers when a distress call came over the radio. A 20'-22' run about had motor issues and had been swamped by a wave. They got lucky as another boat was very close as they didn't have their PFDs on and were just about ready to let go of the boat because of hypothermia. The could swear they were holding on for a long time, when in actual fact the other boat got to them within 30 seconds!!!!!! The next week they were back with shiny new floater coats and suits!!! They were very lucky to survive as the cold will kill you in a heart beat if you are not wearing your PFD!!!! While you will still be very cold with just a PFD on at least you won't be sinking to the bottom with your lungs full of water.
Be safe out there and post pics of the trip.

Or if you don't want to wait around for your leader to straighten just pick up a Fly Fishing Leader Straightener
-
Stick them on a charger and bring them up to full charge.
Hopefully they had a decent charge when you put them away or they might have froze.
Check to see if the cases are bulging at all. If they are they probably froze and you will be out purchasing new ones.

So, anyone get out on the ice yesterday? Catch anything?
Yep!!
Drilled though 40" of clear black ice, so it seemed safe enough to me.
I figure if it will support a fully loaded tandem tanker truck hauling 38,000 liters of fuel that it would probably support my Honda Pilot pulling my snowmobile.

Nice fish buddy.
Is a rape whistle on your wading jacket standard issue for fishing out there now?
Yes!!!
And
I believe it is.

If a fishing rod and a cork handle costs 110 dollars together and the fishing rod is a 100 dollars more than the cork handle how much does the cork handle cost?
Not enough!!
Good cork costs way more than $10 to build a handle!!!
Really good cork is $3-$4 a ring.
I have seen factory rods that look like they have nice cork handles, but when you start to disassemble the handle it's a cheap plastic cylinder with 1/8" cork covering!!
-
sooo..
apparently they're not allowed to bring anything onto the helicopter.. my sources says that there are a lot of flashers, rods, reels and stuff left behind.. if those items are inside a sled, where would be the best location to recover those items given the wind direction?
Oh, I'm still trying to get a definitive answer on this.. do those guys get billed for the helicopter ride? if so, how much?
The bottom of the lake since the ice sheet has supposedly broken due to wave action.

Cork and if you want warmth cork flocked with nylon fibers!!

Dave, I've got room for that motor as well
:whistling:
Let the bidding war begin!!!!!

Good job Simon. In Southern Ontario, unless you're 7.5' tall, an auger extension is pretty useless.
You're all set for next year too!
And if you live where I do 2 extensions are necessary!!!
-
I'm not sure if it would be more or less bear safe. One slice at the bottom and watch the pinata candy fall out...
That's exactly what came to mind as soon as I saw it!!!
That and the fact that it would suck on the tundra!!!
-
Small 2-stroke would be ideal. No gear case oil to deal with plus a lot lighter.
Like my little 4 horse.

Nothing wrong with the job Brian , the stress come from not having enought good things going on in the personel life after work . Becareful if your reaching 40 .Things are out of balance and need to be equalized if you get what i mean , i had the same burn out many years ago .
Me too.
I had my own business and was putting in 70+ hr weeks until I had enough.
Then I moved North got a great job and work 37.5 hrs a week now with the odd OT that I take lieu time so I can have more vacay time.
:good:
When I live in Ontario my commute times were horrible, now it's 7 or 8 minutes and I get to go home for lunch.
I have dozens of local lakes to fish and life is good.
All work and no play....................

^^^Yep, use a pack board.

I only think we've ever lost them once!
Ok, he mis places his keys then.
-
I hope you find them! Here's a funny story about lot keys..
Mike and I are fishing a trib down in the US and he misplaces his keys.. We are frantic, can't get into the car, can't get home, we are totally screwed. Right before we are about to call a buddy to drive us down a spare set a guy walks up from downriver and asks if anyone lost a set of keys.. I guess he saw Mike's FLOATING past him and grabbed them, lol!!!! Talk about getting lucky!
Mike loses his bloody keys every time we go out!!!!!

We once dragged someones permanent hut down to the bottom of cooks from 8th line innisfil. went out one Saturday and they literally set it up 8' from my front door with their door facing mine. hooked her up and away it went.
HEHEHE!!!
I would have towed it to the North end of Couch!!!

CP stands for Center Pin.
They are going to install a new steelhead stream beside your house!!!
:rofl2:

You laff fans crack me up, first you were all calling for Grabs head and wanting him out.
Next you were criticizing Wilson for being out of touch and hard on the players.
Now you have a long term contract and are defending it, the new coach is labeled as a no Bull coach who is demanding on the players and you think that is good.
On top of that he doesn't hold perimeter, non contact players like Kessels in high regard.
Tell me this.
How long will it be until Carlysle alienates the team, and Kessel? And how long will Burke tolerate the coach not favoring his pet player?
You guys criticize Don Cherry for speaking out and being consistent in his views but, like a bunch of hypocrites you flip flop like a bad waffle.
Like a freeking soap opera...As the leaf turns.
Bahahahahaha
Maybe so but at least we'll still have a team after McSquinty gets rid of the corporate tax breaks.
Maybe you can go see your precious Senators in Quebec City or Corpus Christi Texas after they move!!!

float fishing with bait-caster
in General Discussion
Posted · Edited by DRIFTER_016
That's my problem!!!!
I don't own a bait caster newer than the mid 80's!!!!!
:rofl2: ![:rofl2:](https://ontariofishingcommunity.com/uploads/emoticons/default_rofl2.gif)
Still don't think they would work worth beans on slower froggy water though.
Maybe the Credit, Ganny etc but can't see it on the lower Willy or Bowmanville S bends.![;)](https://ontariofishingcommunity.com/uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png)
