All requests and a modest fee for the privilege of viewing Solopaddlers trip reports should be made to me DRIFTER_016 his manager!!!!

Heres the info...
It's a 17 foot Lund mr pike
90hp yammy 2 stroke
On plane it seems to be nose diving...
If he trims up to try and lift the nose he ends up blowing out...
On plane it seems like his cavitation plate is 1-2 inches under the surface...
Top speed is around 25mph
Rpms are 5200-5300 at WOT
What do you think is wrong?
I think his motor is mounted too low... I thought the cavitation plate was supposed to be out of the water on plane... Or just skimming the surface...
Look at his boat from the back while it is on the trailer.
With the motor down the cavitation plate should be even to about 1" below the bottom of the hull.
If it's blowing out while trimming the motor up it sounds like the motor is either mounted too high and you can't get enough trim to lift the bow or it's mounted too low and you have to trim up too high to try and lift the nose.
I's also possible the hull has a hook in it just forward of the transom or there are improperly adjusted trim tabs on the boat if it has them. Both these scenarios will act to keep the nose of the boat planted.
That boat should also be running in the mid 30's at WOT with that motor and mid 20's at cruise so there is definately an issue there somewhere.

I have never been there but as a long time guide I can tell you not to forget to tip your guides, kitchen and housekeeping staff.
Oh and listen to your guides, they get paid to catch you fish.
Sounds like an awesome trip.
Can I come too?

I usually buy my Yankee $$$ @ my bank before I go to the states but if I need more while there I just hit up a banks money machine and pull some more out of my account. The conversion is done by my bank and I get the same rate. There may be a couple of bucks for the out of branch withdrawl but it's not much.

Most if not all gas stations will not allow me (USA Credit Card) to use my credit card at the pump.....
If the credit card companies REALLY wanted to completely eliminate CC fraud then they would make everyone use a pin number when using a CC during the purchase....same as using a debit card.
No different when I try to use my credit card at US gas stations.
I have to go inside tell the attendant I'm from Canada and I can't use my card in the pump so they usually just authorize it and I go and pump then come back in the store.
A total PIA!!!!
My CC is a PIN protected card.
The US gas attendants I talk to know right away I'm Canadian because of the chip in my CC.

You want to seal it up good there are a couple of products you can use that work very well.

I had no loop on the main,or tippet. I tied this knot to join them.
I just tied the fly with an improved clinch knot to the tippet.
So I guess I did it wrong. I still need to tie on a leader.
I didnt get out,but cant wait to.
Just tie a perfection loop in the fat end of your leader and loop the connections together.
-
Thanks Dave. Now Im realy confused.LOL
I attached a Knotless tapered leader.
Yes you did.
Now tie a piece of tippet and a fly to it and go fishin'!!!!!

I guess the other bonus to the Terrova is I can add Ipilot later on down the road.
I was quoted $750 for a "reconditioned" 70# thrust power drive. Or a brand new 55# for $700
I was just looking and you can get a 55# Terrova for $730 ?
I have a 17ft polar kraft boat... weighs 600# with out the motor... I have a 40HP E-Tec...... Would you want a 70# or a 55# ?
Go with a 70# as it is a 24 volt unit and as such the batteries will last longer than the 12 volt 55# unit even using 2 batteries in parallel on the 12 volt unit. The 55# @ 12 volts draws more amperage than the 70# @ 24 volts.
The Ipilot can also be added to the Powerdrive V2 motors but you lose the wired foot pedal.
If I remember correctly you can buy a wireless pedal but it just adds more $ and another battery you have to deal with.

I have an 80# PD version 1 and like it a lot but for the resons stated above if I were buying a new one it would be a Terrova.

One of my buddies parents moved to South Carolina, and then back here again a few years later when it dawned on them he still had to work for a living and couldn`t just take off every time they called needing help.
I considered moving for a short time, but my whole social and family network is here. To me it does`t seem reasonable to move to a distant location and expect people to travel to you?
By the time I retire I won't have any family left.
But the locations I have chosen for my retirement (best salmon and steelhead in Canada in the summer and best inshore/off shore saltwater in Costa Rica in the winter) I don't think I'll have any issues getting my friends to visit!!!

First let's get out terminology correct.
Leader- the leader is the length of line between the fly line and the tippet.
Tippet- is the piece of line between the leader and the fly.
There are several types of leaders including tapered, knotless tapered, furled, straight.
Straight leaders are just that a single straight piece of line between the fly line and fly. This type of leader is almost always used when using sinking lines and the length is generally 3'-5' long.
Standard tapered leaders (or knotted tapered leaders) are made from several pieces of mono from heavier at the fly line end to lighter at the tippet end. Knotless tapered leaders are factory made and are just like the knotted kind without the knots. The taper is what helps the fly to turn over. They are generally 7 1/2' or 9' but can be longer.
Furled leaders are hand woven tapered high perdormance leaders that have a very soft presentation.
The tippet is the section of line that is attched to the fly. It can be lighter or heavier in weight than the leader. For light trout fishing it is usually lighter than the leader and 18"-24" in length. For toothy fish like pike and musky it is heavier than the leaders weight and usually wire, coated wire or flourocarbon leader material. Length is again 18"-24".

It's really nice to dream and yes, most of the above places would be nice but often, especially if you have a spouse, you're never going to want to be very far from medical services. That's the reality for most folks of retirement age. There's also, as Grimace said, the fact that your children shouldn't be too far away unless you don't mind only seeing them once or twice a year. If you're both healthy and you can retire at a young enough age, these 'realities' are less important.
No spouse and no kids (as far as I know
) so here I come Bulkley valley in BC during the summer and probably Costa Rica in the winter.

I really like trolling stick baits for walleye.
My best technique is trolling shallow divers over the tops of isolated weed beds.
I look for humps that top out in 8-12 fow with submerged weed beds and try to tick my bait off the weeds as I slow troll over them.

My waterfront retirement location is south of North Bay, but it isn't in Canada.
My winter location is South West of North Bay.
My summer location is West of North Bay................WAAAAY West.
One is in Canada the other...................not so much!!!

I'm not telling cause I do not get along well with others.
Ps I'd be looking north west of NB anyway.
Me too, North West actually.

It's hard plastic... So the keel can slide easily...
And fairly thin... Not much room for countersinking in wood...
It's also curved... Concave on top and convex on the bottom...
How thick is it?
I would just replace it with a piece of UHMW polyethelyne and be done with it.
It will probably last forever then.
-
Yes it should pull apart.
If you are fused at the panel you don't need to be fused at the pump.
You can remove the fuse assembly there al together.
Rob
If they are the large glass fuses you should be able to get a replacement at a car audio shop.
I would replace your fuse holde with a 60 amp circuit breaker though when you get a chance.
-
Those fuse holders just snap together.
Get a grip on the ends and pull straight in opposite directions.
I'm assuming your fuse holder looks like this one.
If not try to describe it for me.

Got to your iTunes folder on your computer and copy/paste the file to a usb stick.
If it is in a format your tv doesn't have a codec for just use a converter like AVC to convert it to one it can play like MPEG, WMI, AVI.
iTunes data is located in the iTunes folder in your music folder/library.
