  1. Don't know if that will work or not.

Might have to copy to a USB stick and play from there.

I can play from an external hard drive connected to my tv but usually I just plug a usb stick into my surround sound receiver and play from there. ;)

  2. I stopped in at my local Merc dealer today cheking on price dirrerences between a 90 and 115 four stroke.

Pricing is way high here but it gives me an idea of the cost differential. I am looking to purchase in Alberta and have it shipped North. I will still save enough that the kicker and controls will be free compared to cost if I bought locally. :glare:

Cost here for a 90 Merc is $11,250 and the 115 is $13,400!!!!

That's a lot of cake for a mid sized motor. If I buy in the South $14K gets me new controls, smartcraft guages, 115 4 stroke and a 9.9 4 stroke and shipping to Yellowknife. :D

  3. from what i can tell its about $1500 max in parts...retail... and im guessing it would be the same cost as he estimated to completely tear apart the power head and put it back together...$300-500

    so my 500 already in

    another 1500 in parts

    and another 500 in labour...

so $2500 total on the high end... maybe a bit less...

edit for crank cost... missed that...and bearing cost not included

    ...

Plus the cost of a new block if there's a crack in a water jacket somewhere.................

  4. the yamaha has the 4 cyl with the pro-control tiller handle pretty much the sweetest tiller in the biz, smooth lots of torque sips fuel.

the merc if i remember correctly is a $800 to get the nice tiller handle, besides the merc is made in china the yammy is made in japan

The shift lever is really nice on the Yammie too!!!

  5. Yamaha has theire troll control system (ability to adjust idle speed for trolling) built right into the tiller handle as far as I know.

Merc you need to purchase one of their smart craft guages in order to get their troll control system operational. Idle speed is also controlled through the guage.

Cost will probably be close between the two with the added expense of the smart craft guage. The smart craft guage gives you tons of info though that you won't get with the stock Yammie guage.

I'm repowering my boat as soon as some other loans are paid off and will be going with new Mercs. ;)

  6. Right now there is only one spot of open water to launch the boat and it will be packed all weekend because of this!!! :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

The good news is there are a couple of small lakes ready to sink including one that produces fish like this one from last spring. :good: :good:

  7. Just an FYI.

Bass boats come made from aluminum too!!!!

Best of both worlds really. The lower weight of aluminum, better gas mileage out of a smaller engine and the fishability of a glass bass boat. Sure, they aren't as slick and pretty looking but I have found that they get on plane faster and stay on plane at slower speeds which is really nice when the water is really snotty!!! Way better than beating the crap out of your kidneys trying to keep a glass bass boat on step so you can see over the nose.

  8. I guess you'll have to pull over and park to check it, otherwise you're using a hand held electronic device while driving. I found that AM680 does a reasonably good job. :whistling:

Let the pot be stirred.. :jerry:

Is it still hand held if it's in one of those universal cell phone holders? :whistling:

  9. Article on the large butterfly migration this spring

Canada's butterfly migration is largest on record

    16/05/2012 11:38:26 AM

    CBC News

Butterflies have migrated across Eastern Canada this spring in unprecedented numbers, reflecting the warm winter throughout North America and raising alarm bells about what it might mean for other species.

"It's probably the most exciting year for butterflies that Canada has ever seen," said Jeremy Kerr, a professor of biology at the University of Ottawa.

Estimates from the field suggest there are 300 million red admiral butterflies from Windsor to New Brunswick - more than 10 times what would be seen in a typical year. Numerous other butterfly species have also arrived or appeared in greater numbers, Kerr said.

The explosion in butterfly populations is mostly due to the warm weather this winter throughout North America. It caused butterflies to emerge from their overwintering forms in places like Texas and Florida sooner, and then improved their survival rates as they headed north.

The first local butterflies (ones that overwinter in Canada) were seen as early as March - "damned peculiar," Kerr said ?and southern Ontario was hit by its first big wave of migratory butterflies in mid-April, thanks in part to strong winds. The red admirals moved so far north so early that they flew into areas with snow, something that normally wouldn't happen.

They were also joined by the painted lady, a closely related butterfly.

A second wave arrived in early May, boosting the diversity in southern Ontario, especially from Windsor to Toronto. Kerr said one enthusiast recorded 22 different species in a single Windsor park. The blog of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto noted the appearance of such species as the American lady, question mark, mourning cloak, cloudless sulphur, grey hairstreak, variegated fritillary and American snout.

Felix Sperling, a biologist at the University of Alberta, said the early and large migration has been a strictly eastern phenonemon, save for some red admirals approaching the southern border of Manitoba. He said the red admiral is known to have surges - and years where they're no-shows - but in Western Canada they tend to have their own ebbs and flows in numbers.

Kerr said the butterflies won't have any immediate effect on their environment - the bigger question is what it might mean for other animals.

Butterflies are excellent indicators of environmental changes. "Is it a really beautiful sign of something really worrying to come?"

However, Sperling and Kerr both said it's impossible to know what the change means.

"We don't know yet which species are going to be winners and which are going to be losers in this time of rapid environmental change," Kerr said.

Two immediate questions yet to be answered are how abundant monarch butterflies will be when they arrive (usually in early to mid-June), and how plentiful the red admirals (and their larvae) will be when they give birth to a second generation this summer.

  10. Donna Summer Dead @ 63 :(

    Sad news.

Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco, has danced her last dance.

TMZ reports that Summer died this morning in Florida after a battle with cancer. She was 63.

If you had no idea she was ill, as I didn't, sources reportedly say Summer was trying to keep the extent of her illness a secret. And, in fact, she was very recently talking about working on a new album.

Celebrities, music world pay tribute to Donna Summer

Summer won five Grammys and six American Music Awards, and sold millions of albums. Her best-known hits includeGrammy "Hot Stuff," "I Feel Love," "Bad Girls" and "She Works Hard for the Money."

Donna Summer was born LaDonna Adrian Gaines on New Year's Eve 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts.

One of seven children raised by devout Christian parents, she started singing in the church at a young age. She dropped out of school and in the late 1960s and actually joined a psychedelic rock group called The Crow as lead singer. She later moved to New York and then to Europe with a production of Hair, in which she played Sheila, and performed in more stage productions in Germany.

She married and divorced Austrian actor Helmuth Sommer and kept his name - stylizing it “Summer.”

Her first single, "Sally Go 'Round the Roses", was released in Europe in 1971 under her maiden name, Donna Gaines. “Love to Love You Baby” was her first single in the U.S. in 1975, though some radio stations apparently refused to play it because of its suggestive nature - it featured Summer moaning and groaning in seeming orgasmic delight. An extended dance remix found success in the clubs and the album of the same name sold over a million copies.

She released several successful following albums and finally had her first No. 1 single in 1978 with a version of Richard Harris’ “MacArthur Park” and her first No. 1 album that same year with the live album Live and More.

She won her first Grammy with the single "Last Dance" and hit No. 1 again in 1979 with the album Bad Girls.

That was the apex of her success. Subsequent albums fared well, however, and “She Works Hard for the Money,” a single off the album of the same name released in 1983, has become a classic, while she continued to hit the top of the dance charts, right up until 2010, when “To Paris With Love” hit No. 1. Her last album, Crayons, was released in 2008.

    Summer in 2001

Summer reportedly suffered from depression and anxiety and has said that she attempted suicide more than once. She also reportedly became addicted to prescription medication at one point and suffered a nervous breakdown in 1979, after which she became a born again Christian.

She had a daughter, Mimi, with Helmuth Sommer, in 1973, and two more children, Brooklyn and Amanda, with second husband Bruce Sudano, in 1980 and 81, respectively.

She is survived by her husband, three daughters, and four grandchildren.

  11. ELECTRIC OR HYDRAULIC?

Trailer brakes fall into two categories; electric (controlled by a brake control in the tow vehicle) and hydraulic surge (actuated by a special trailer coupler with no control from the tow car). Typically, hydraulic surge brakes are fitted to boat trailers and rental utility trailers.

In the past, boat trailers relied heavily on surge brakes setups because it was thought that the electric brake components mounted in the wheel (the shoes, arms, magnet and related springs and parts) would rust quickly because they are constantly dipped in water when the boat is launched. Today, however, more marine trailer builders are installing electric brake systems because brake manufacturers have started offering corrosion-resistant brake components such as galvanized or stainless steel metal parts coupled with rare-earth magnets.

Don't forget the hybrid electric over hydraulic.

The system is hydraulic with an electric actuator instead of a surge activator.

All electrics are on the tongue.

  12. I all honesty I did NOT read every post........but I do a "little" about HDTV......make sure you get at LEAST a 120hz refresher rate if you into sports........the cheaper TV's are at 60hz or whatever they are called......that makes the picture FUZZY when watching fast action....like football and hockey.

Or if you're really into sports ignore the LCD/LED TV's and get Plasma!!!!! :tease: :tease: :tease:

  14. Ok I did a small vid,but the music is to long Dave. Can I stop the music at the end of the vid? I didnt see anything that allowed me to do that.

Lots of fun, once I figured it out.

Add more pictures or increase the time each pic is on screen.

If you have say 30 pictures at a display time of 3 seconds each just adding a second gains you 30 seconds of video time.

I have audio editing software that can be used to legthen/shorten clips but it is easier just to add a couple of extra photos, video or tweak display times to get your timing right.

If it's outdoors related try Trophy Clips
