  1. I'd never buy new, let some other schmuck take that huge depreciation hit. Used with factory warranty would be the ticket.

Did that with my current vehicle.

Just under 3 years old when I bought it and only had 24K kms on it.

Bought the extended warranty just in case.

    Saved at least $15K.

  2. -41C hutless. It's a dry cold though!!!! -41, no wonder you are looking for a pop up. What would that be if you had a breeze? Oulu Finland in December cold, I will never go back there in this lifetime, I don't know how you frozen nuts do it.

That is with the wind chill. It was only -30 without. :whistling:

  3. Good point. i wonder how many people go out with guides and not ask them to see a copy of their insurance. Not implying that Mike doesn't have any, but guides in general.

Well considering it's a lodge and they will be guided by one of the lodges guides I'm pretty sure the lodges insurance covers them. ;)

I know I never had insurance as a guide and was covered by the lodges insurance all the years I guided up here.

  4. My dad has a Rav 4 and it has been a good vehicle and does have a little bit of room for gear.

I saw the Honda HRV when I was visiting @ Christmas and it is actually smaller than the new Civic.

I personally would never buy one just because of that. The CRV is the equivalent of the Rav 4 in size and capability.

My Pilot was in the shop this week getting some body work done after a co-worker backed into it and I had a Ford Escape as a rental. It was OK and about the size of the CRV and Rav 4. A little tight for me though.

  5. Can't you build an igloo? Don't have to store it and it's free, build a couple and you can move around :)

Our snow is like sugar. Does not pack worth a hoot!!!

I have to soak the trail up to my cabin with water to make it solid and grippy.

If I don't I get stuck with any type of load behind my sled.

  6. basically these kinds of things make me depressed because i quickly realize that I will literally never own a new fishing boat in my entire life.

Pretty sure when my dad bought our glasstron in 93 he paid a quarter of what a boat costs now.

I bought my boat @ the boat show in 1991.

    18' Fisher SV-18GT with a 90 Merc, trailer and TM for $20K.

Probably be twice that or more now to get something equivalent.

In 2013 I upgraded the motor to a new 115 4 stroke with a jack plate and Smartcraft gauges for $13,500.

  7. Cliff. My advice is if vista is running fine then why upgrade the operating system at all? Chances are you will never need support for that operating system if you haven't already. My worry is with an older machine, Windows 10 may bog down your system resources making it run very slowly. The always say "it'll run faster and more efficiently", but if you haven't upgraded your ram or if your processor isn't fast enough it could do more harm than good.

Vista is no longer supported so there will be no more security updates to the OS which will leave the computer vulnerable.

  8. Brian I guess we could try margarine yuck :tease:but desperate times for despirate measures lol

I tried to clear the pms but obviously my attempts were frugal sos assistance appreciated

Mike we use the propane bottles for a bit of heat to warm hands up on the ice or to boil water for a T or to boil hot dogs for a nwt version of a tailgate party. as Dave will tell you my hide is weathered, I don't use a hut lol

5# tank!!! 1# bottles are for the rich!!! :tease::tease::tease::tease:

  9. A good education only gives you a better opportunity to make more money. The rest is up to you.

I agree with what you and Bill are saying, however not everybody can do that dance for various reasons. I just find it unfortunate that the developed world in general is throwing the middle class under the bus. And please don't take this as a rah rah union rant because it's not.

I happen to be a unionized employee. :D

  10. Your grand children need to get an education and not rely on falling back to working on an assembly line. That might seem a bit harsh, but it's a reality. The days of finishing high school and signing up at GM/Stelco/Dana etc are over (And have been for a while)

Besides a good education will make you a lot more $$$$$.

  11. I just use a tip up with a big ol sucker under it....what's that line from tv..."set it, and forget it". (just don't forget it too much, make sure its easily visible from your hut window)

Yeah, don't forget it too much though.

Had my free spool a little tight on my dead stick last year and didn't get to the hole in time.

Watched my custom 42" stick and 1980's ABU 5500 fly through the air and down the hole before I made it to the rod. :(
