  1. You have to enjoy a outdoor baseball game instead of watching one in a over sized warehouse....can't believe baseball allows games inside a doom...

Have you ever made it down to Cleveland for a game....I use to love to go down there when Jacob owned the team...now a GREEDY lawyer is a owner and I moved my loyalty to Boston... :)

To be fair, April, Sept & Oct evenings can be very cold for baseball in Toronto (Let alone snow, such as the blue jays opening game in 77 which my parents were at). At least the weather here slightly makes it better. Can't really say the same for Tampa Bay lol!!

I really do wish it was an outdoor stadium though.

  2. After 6 years of missing playoffs I've cared less and less about the leafs and more and more about the Jays as they continue to improve on the field. I really wish I lived in Toronto and could get to more games, it was really depressing to see such a lack of attendance last night (same ol' same ol' really).

  3. Mc donalds starts with the same water no matter were it is located. They filter the water using a R.O. unit that is dedicated to the drinks be it soda or coffee. They then have the coffee machines all the same with the same coffee blend for all of their restaurants.

Which makes you wonder why their coffee is inconsistent. I think the main reason McDonalds coffee is more inconsitent than Tim Hortons is because Tim Hortons replaces their coffee every 20 minutes after a brew to keep it fresh and never gives a burnt taste. As far as I know McDonalds doesn't do this, a fresh cup from them is delicious but I don't want the last cup from the maker that's sitting on the hot plate for an hour during off times. I'm certain that's where the bad cups come from.

  4. 33 years of, legally, being on the streets.. A good few years before that driving as well...

I couldn't possibly count how many brake lightless vehicles I've driven behind in that time frame.

As for I'm pretty certain Cliff knows I was asking in HIS best interest after surgery. I have a few friends without depth perception, yet with vigilance they drive and I even have one buddy that flies with only one eye.

Sorry I didn't realize that, I wasn't actually trying to single anyone out although I see it came off that way, my apologies. I just get worked up over this topic after seeing it first hand and that it's pretty scary even on 50km/hr streets. Pretty remarkable that someone can fly a plane with one eye, must feel good for him. Curious, can he legally drive a car with one eye?

  5. I've driven twice behind vehicles with no brake lights. One was an old van and the other an old pick up truck. If you haven't been behind one of them you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and can't comment that he has bad depth perception. It's unbelievably difficult to tell when the vehicle slows down let a lone braking hard in front of you. Mine were both on regular streets (Mapleview Drive, barrie), not a 400 highway and it was a real eye opener.

  6. 400 South @ Hwy 89.. :)

I guess I got lucky with my Tim Hortons. I however have found massive differences between the Timmys up here and the ones closer to the big smoke. The one little drivethru located on the 400NB just past Major Mac is probably the worst out of all of them. I'm NEVER had a good coffee from that place. I have a feeling they aren't brewing a new batch every 15 mins in order to save $$$.. But that's all speculation.

I agree Bill, being a self-admitted mcdonalds lover (primarily breakfast), their coffee is hit or miss. When it's a hit, it's the best coffee from any joint but when it's a miss it's just not good. It's as if half the time you get the very last ounce from the coffee maker that's burnt from the hot plate. Timmies on the other hand (At least up here in Barrie and Innisfil) have always been consistent.

  7. So after the snow melted last week I was left with tracks/tunnels all over my property. I'll have to take a picture to show the damage, it's pretty drastic.

Two days ago we looked in the backyard and saw a cat there, cute we thought. Then POUNCE, leaps towards the edge of the remaining snow crust and looks back at us with a rodent in it's mouth and then ran off :clapping: After watching a couple of the holes shortly after we see one pop its head out and back in again. I did some research and these are definitely voles, also known as field mice. They aren't actually mice, just a rodent that look similar and have similar reproduction cycles.

Anyway, we've setup traps around the edges of the house and already got one. I'm hoping the cat comes back and picks up another few lol. I need to get rid of these buggers quick so I can work on fixing the lawn that's wrecked this Spring. Anyone got tips to get rid of these things other than just traps? I'm worried this could be a long process. I also don't want to poison the lawn because of the outdoor cats around here.

I've thought about flooding the holes with water to either drown them or cage them at the exit holes. Thoughts?

  8. I agree that JFJ was a mess...but how does one bad decision make MLSE terrible owners, and one good decision in hiring Ken Holland make Mike Illich a genius?

Well... I never called Illich a genius but having hockey smarts, past business success and knowing when to hire the right people is what makes a successful a good owner. He hired Ken Holland, that wasn't just one good decision that was an outstanding decision. He's also made many more before it. Hiring Scotty Bowman wasn't exactly a bad one. MLSE hires JFJ (Illich would NEVER have hired JFJ)... That gave us Toskala as our starting goalie when Belfour ran dry. That gave us Maurice when they got rid of Quinn.. It's been 7 years, they've made a lot of mistakes in the first 5 and it'll take years before they ever get back to over 100pt/season again.

Oh yea, also how are those Raptors doing too? MLSE you rock.

  9. Most of that is true.

    But...

The only reason players take "pay cuts" to stay in Detroit is because they are a proven winner. I'm sure good ownership plays a role in that, but if they team was finishing in last place, no one would want to take take pay cuts to play there, no matter how nice Mike Illich et al are.

I think having "good" owners contributing to winning teams is really a myth in the post-lockout era. If you look at the Leafs, what more can MLSE do to make the team a winner? I've said it on here before...they spend to the cap, they'll put players in the minors [Jeff Finger], they'll buy players out [Darcy Tucker, Andrew Raycroft], and they hired Brian Burke, which not many argued was a bad move at the time.

Everything people hate about MLSE has to do with being a fan - high ticket prices, the corporate atmosphere, etc. None of that really builds a championship team. If Mike Illich took over Toronto tomorrow, things wouldn't really change in terms of the product on the ice.

You don't think MLSE wants to get to the playoffs? Talk about a business that basically has little growth potential without a winning team. Trust me, they'd love nothing more for a few home playoff dates where they can double ticket prices.

If someone can suggest something concrete than an owner can do in today's NHL that gives them an edge, I'm all ears.

Ontario Pension Plan took controlling interest of MLSE in 2003. They hired John Ferguson, Jr. who left the team in shambles giving away terrible no trade contracts & making awful trades. The year before the lockout leafs posted their best regular season in franchise history before missing playoffs for 5 straight years... In today's NHL (and past) owners have to make the right decisions when it comes to who runs the business. One or two bad decisions up top and a franchise can be ruined for a very long time AKA the leafs. This is why Detroit is also where they are today, good decisions from a good businessman. Hiring Burke and giving him full realm to make decisions on his own was a good start - I'm not a Burke hater.

  10. I'd really like to know what good ownership has to do with the Wings being competitive, especially post-lockout.

    Enlighten me.

Uhmmm... I'll chime in - Mike bought the team in the 80s when they sucked (Detroit Dead Wings). That family has spent spent millions on the team and turned them around by the 90s when they brought in Bowman. The management is family run, his son is the President & CEO making actual decisions that matter. Since the lockout players have also taken pay cuts to play there (Which keeps them competitive). There are a lot more players in line wanting play for the Red Wings than Leafs and I believe a lot of it has to do with ownership. Having owners that care and want to make them win long term because they love hockey is crucial to any successful team (minus luck of the draw).

It's also been said from league experts many times over that he's the best owner in the NHL, by far (MLSE being the worst of course)

  11. My son is Jackson (I call him Jack) and he's 18 months so I think this is extra cute.

He's got some rosy cheeks there, is the little guy teething?

EDIT: My wife just watched it and said it was addorable says Happy Birthday Jack!

  12. Our world is falling a part, I'm just so thankful to be here. Such a sad state of affairs.

Natural disasters, terrorist attacks and civil wars. Japan earthquake/tsunami, Indonesia tsunami, Haiti quake, hurricane Katrina, hurricane from south asia a few years ago, plenty more of course. From hurricanes to quakes & tsunamis, milllions have died over the past decade. We have wars all over the globe right now too in Afghanistan, Iraq, & civil wars in the Middle East that need international aid too.
