  1. The process is to call the 1-800 number to get one sent. It takes a few weeks. If you want to fish in the meantime you can purchase a temporary paper replacement at a Service Ontario kiosk. I think it was $10 for the paper. Had to go through the process a couple of years back.

  2. Chippewa CA in Wellandport. Bruce this sounds like a great place to get the kids out for some fishing and camping. Are you interested?

BTW I'm not telling my little one it would be a suprise

Just remember that fishing at Chippewa and many other CA's won't open until bass opener. They also have a fun derby, as does Valens.

  3. It was a beautiful day despite the cold winds. It was also a day where both my kids wanted to get out and beat a local stream that has a good sucker run. Armed with ultralites, carp corn (from Hammercarp) and synthetic roe and away we go. Only took 10 minutes to find the first pod.

Now I do admit I'm a stubborn cuss and I shouldn't be working streams any more. I don't have adequate motor control in the legs, But we've been doing this for years. I hook into the first sucker and one moment I'm on the bank, next instant I'm half in the stream. Serves me right :P

He was still worth it. The daughter did camera duty while the son and I caught a few more.

It was fun just to be together without a care in the world, even if Dad is a putz. Still had a good laugh, and managed to keep the camera dry(I've drowned a few).

Kept a couple of suckers for cat bait.

  4. There are some decent spots right close to home. Byng CA in Dunnville. Chippewa CA in Wellandport. Valens CA up the #6 Just for starters.

Further away Bass Lake PP on hwy 12 west of Orillia. 6 Mile Lake PP on hwy 69 just north of Pt Severn. Balsam Lake PP west of Coboconk on hwy 48

  5. 13,185 now.

Elmer Fudd's shotgun is not the problem, but that is what the government wanted us to believe. The weapons of choice for the criminal are hand guns and automatic weapons. They are illegal already and no amount of bureaucratic nonsense will eliminate them.

The government needs to put this money into better border enforcement and inspections. That is how we reduce the gun problem.

  6. dont recall seeing different types of jigs out there, but sinkers yes, i make my own jigs and still use lead, got a couple battery boxes full of ingots from the mine,

Bismuth/ tin is not easy to find at a scrap yard. Usually found at a specialty metals supplier. More expensive than lead.

I use lead for all my moldings. Last year the price of lead was up to $1 a lb. It has since come down.

  7. If the dogs figure out I'm off fishing and leave them behind. Look out! Waste cans in the house get dumped out and all the sheets pulled off the bed.. Gonna have to start loading the gear the night before.

The cute and expensive stunt? I empty my pockets every night onto the night table. The next morning I go to fill my pockets and my car keys are gone. Looked all through the house, the yard, inside the 2 vehicles and nothing. So off to the dealership to get a set of new key chips for the ignition lock (ouch). 2 weeks later the wife decides its time to clean out the puppy bed and wash their blankets. Guess what was buried under the blankets. :wallbash:

A Jack Russel is one very intelligent and mischevious dog.

  8. Lew, you are not out of line. Like others I have had many scares, and still do, with my daughter.

Every terminally ill child I meet turns me inside out, emotionally

For those who have lost their little one's. I know that feeling where your heart is sitting at the back of your throat and ready to burst. We try to deal with it one day at a time here and be thankful for the good days. There are many sleepless nights and days where I am scared s---less.

I have one fully grown son who is healthy. He may think we take him for granted some times because so much attention is focused on his sister. We are just so thankful he is healthy.

Sorry for the self-indulgence. Been another rough week with the daughter.

  9. This increase in money is not going back into the fisheries. Despite what you think this is all due to Gov. Patterson's scramble to raise as much money to regain control of New York States defacit. The Salt Water Community here in NY is also for the first time being forced to get licenses. I'm not stating this as a bad thing. They should have had one a long time ago but to take money for a licence in a state and then use this money for something other then the fishery it was intended for is in my opinion just wrong!

Going back to the Fresh Water License, l do think it's just wong what the're doing with this. A increase of 5-10% over 5 years maybe... but this is just a blatent display of how little control the Government down here over their economy and they're trying to pass their losses onto other states and out of state residents. lt's unfortunate that this is going on. This state has some of the BEST fishing in the world and it's truely unrealized. This increase in the out of state license is just going to deter people from coming into the state to fish. God's honest truth I think people that did fish here before should NOT buy a license here this year. Stay up there, go to another state, go to another provence... Let them know that this is not an exceptable action!

Personally l feel if this state wants to raise money for their deficites then start up another lottery or have a freakin' bake sale but this is just going to keep people from making NY a vacation destination and thus doing more detrimental damage to the economy of the state and not to mention the the reputation of our great fishery!

It just might be that licence fees have not kept up with the cost of running the fisheries dept. It is a regular habit of governments to run programs without increasing the revenues. The result is a deficit that either has to be paid off or the service has to be cut. Ontario chose to reduce service.

  10. A visitor from NY state pays $66 for the priviledge of fishing Ontario. Only fair to see the same mark up.

Also, take a moment to consider how much more aggressive the NY fisheries dept. is with resource management and stocking. IT's money well spent. Ontario residents benefit directly from those efforts whether they buy the NY tag or not
