  1. A little hint from a former scouter. I used to run fishing excursions from Beavers through to Scouts. You need 1 adult per 2 youth. They usually need a lot of help. The eye protection is a good idea. We would also try to sneak a little learning in there towards badge work. A few other spots within the hour:

Toronto Islands canals; Holland marsh canals at the 400 and#9 or just at the next ramp north; Charles Daley park has 2 ponds with lots of spring cats QEW at Jordan; Holland river Bradford.

  2. Great report and pics Bruce. Nice to see Bill took that long needed break from the home renovations to get in a great day fishing :thumbsup_anim:

I gotta ask, how did you get him out of the house???? I've been trying for over a week now

Bill called me. He didn't want to waste a perfect day.

  3. this was a dirty rotten report!!!!

I don't know why anyone would show someone out fishing on WATER when I have to look out at my lake and see 2 feet of snow and 4 feet of ice below it

    I am so JEALOUS

oh yeah, it has warmed up here from -15 this morning to -2 spring is NEVER coming !!!!

I wasn't ready to give up ice fishing yet. You've got ice!

  4. I freeze my fish in the "Vac-Loc storage system, keeps them fresk with no freezer burn for up to a year.

I think the longest my fillets have been in the freezer might be 6 months. They go into a big wicked pot of Gramma's "Fish head soup" if they're that old.

  5. Got out to my favourite pond with my good friend Bill. Got there at 8:30 and there was skim ice. Dagnabbit!! :wallbash: Any how, we put on some heavy weights to bust through and start getting perch. Lost a few on the ice , oh well.

After 1 1/2 hours the ice finally was gone and the perch shut down. We moved around a bit to relocate the school and found a few more perch. That was it.

Toss out a fresh minnow and before I've got the slack up, the rod bounces. No wonder the perch were gone. Pikies.

    Then Bill got the monster.

Between the two of us we got a decent feed of perch and one pike joined the chowder club

I know what the puppies and I are having for brekkie tomorrow :D

  6. I too, know only too well the experience of having bones caught in the throat. Ended up in the hospital to have them removed some 30 years back. That scope was the most horrible experience. Everytime I get the feel of fish bones in the mouth, that old gag reflex starts to kick in.

Despite that, I love fish. Got to have it twice a week or so, and I am perty finicky about my fillets. Offspring love it as well, but not the Mrs.

  7. Pretty hard to pick one moment out of a lifetime.

5 years back we were staying at Dalrymple Resort and the wife and daughter wanted to go fishing without the 'mouthpiece' (son). Up to the northeast bay and we started a very slow drift. The wife and I were using harnesses and the girl was bobber fishing.

Well we hit a school of large sunfish that stayed with the boat the 2 hours we were out fishing. The smallest in the school were 7" pumpkinseeds, the biggest was a 10 1/2 bluegill. After the first 20 minutes I just put my rod down for the rest of the outing. I was too busy taking fish off the line and rebaiting hooks. By the time the girls had had enough we had gone through 4 dozen worms and had a good 30 fish on the stringer. The daughter insisted on carrying the stringer up to the cleaning shed and show off her catch to everyone she met. She could barely keep it off the ground. Hazel put it on the scales at the store and the stringer was just over 15 lbs.

There were no monsters. Just a whole lot of fun. Heck, I wasn't even fishing.

Then there's the time stream wading where I got 2 dunkings......

I've a life full of those kinds of memories.
