  1. To start with, you should consider dethatching and aerating the lawn. Keeping things simple, get a DIY fertilizer program from your garden centre. Garden Gallery, Sheridans. Scotts, all have recommended programs and timetables for lawn maintenace through the season.

Each component works on different elements of the lawn during the season. Lawn starter, weed and feed, root developer, winter feed, etc...

As for the grass growing past the border. Grass spreads by sending out root colonies. You can never eliminate it, only control. Reccomendations depend upon local spray regulations. There are lots of name brand contact weed killers. If they are banned in your area, the controls include digging them out, bleach, vinegar.

I could not make more specific suggestions without actually seeing the condition of the sod.

  2. Just outside of Lunenberg is the Ovens. It is a nature park and campground. The caves are phenomenal, wit htours available when weather permits. An o.k. beach and panning for gold. Thing is you are in the midst of the south shore. Must stop in to the Fisheries Museum in Lunenberg. Don't know if your dates there would coincide with the dorymen's races. A few decent charter boats in Lunenberg that run you offshore for mackerel, pollock and cod. If you can, get off the 100 highways wherever possible and follow the old coast highway, else you see very little of the coast and Nova Scotia's rich maritime character. In Shelbourne the old boat shop was still hand producing the traditional dory. (they still took orders 5 years back) I could go on and write volumes about Scotia. I'm biased. Spent part of my childhood there with my aunt and uncle, and posted out there.

  3. Super thread! :thumbsup_anim: Sue and I are planning to take a month in 2012 (we are thinking June) and head East. We both love almost any kind of sea food but lobster would be very high on our list. Any ideas of where the best lobster would be available that time of the year? We are thinking of just staying in little B&Bull and such, just be nomads for a month.

I'll be watching this thread for thoughts and ideas!

Hall's Harbour is a known, overpriced, lobster stop out Fundy way. Don't waste your time in Eastern passage. If you're looking for fresh, cook your own, The are lots of small outports with available lobster. Parkers Cove comes to mind just before you get to Annapolis.

  4. Finally got the puter fixed. Seems all my operating systems were wiped out when the power pack died. At least that's the tekkie's guess.

Has someone finally invented the perfect lure? Is Terry catching fish? Is Mercman still fertilizing the site

  5. This practice, like many others, has been around for quite some time. Truth is most people don't know their cuts of meat so it becomes easier to get away with the mock cut. I know that most breaded meats are cut and paste product. It's the fancy cuts like wrapped filet mignon or london broils and "boneless steaks" that you have to watch.

Just like people passing off mutton for lamb. The average consumer does not know any better

  6. ITS ABOUT TIME.........They should do one better and have no possession limit, all c&r. Also they should start stocking the watersheds too. Go the same route as the states. Their rivers boast great numbers of bows and maybe add a few co's to the mix as well

To sustain such suggestions are you willing to support zone by zone, or species specific licensing like in Europe? The average taxpayer won't fork out for it.

Hoewever, if we want to up the return rates to spawning grounds, maybe we should just close those year round exeptions for trout on L Ontario. I'm not a trout angler per say, but from simple observation, there is a lot of scapegoating going on. If the damage is as bad as stated, reducing the limits is fine, but at the same time, close off all the open tribs until April opener. All I hear is "make someone else sacrifice", "it's their fault" but "don't touch my holy grail". Rather hypocritical from an observer's perspective.

  7.

By the way "Earthday" was created in 1970 by julian kanig (volkwagen marketer) on april 22. April 22nd was his birthday. Birthday, earthday, brithday, earthday....

His original idea was good, but it has since beeen turned into a corporate cash grab. In Canada, "Earth Day" is a registered trademark coplete with marketing strategy, sanctioned product line, royalties, etc.. . If you use the name publicly you are billed for royalties. Again, you try and do good but end up being screwed. Been there, done it once, and never again.

  8.

Now DONUTS !!!! Thats another threadth_drool.gif

In the day, the best cup of coffee was CountryStyle. I'd still be hard pressed to fork out for a cup on a regular basis. As for doughnuts ( notice the Canajun spelling!) Tim's have shrunk down portion sizes to near half. Compare their fritter to one from CountryStyle. On the way home down the #11 1'll still stop at the CountryStyle south of Orillia.

  9. Here is the stupidity behind this save energy nonsense.

They want us to save energy, reduce consumption, and allegedly we'll do the earth a good thing and save money.

We've done good at reducing consumption and hydro usage is down. What happens next? Hydro declares a shortfall in revenues due to an energy surplus and rewards us with increases in hydro rates, and smart meters. Then they practically give away the surplus hydro south of the border rather than downscaling energy production.

Why would I voluntarily choose to screw myself yet again.

  10. Actually, it is illegal to photocopy a disabled permit. I have asked before.

If i go fishing somewhere there isn't usually handicapped parking at the launch.

So i will bring it in boat with me. Didn't know this 'disabled = fishing license thing'.

You cannot use a photocopy in you vehicle, is correct.

Using a photocopy for the puposes of the fishing license was the suggestion offered by the MNR. I do a lot of shore fishing with handicap parking nearby.

  11. Just another media hype crock of doodoo. No different than Earth Day. Spend a day doing environmental penance so we can carry on as usual the other 364 :glare:

Kinda like telling a mobster that all sins can be forgiven with a couple of Hail Mary's and a Novina or two for good measure.
