  1. Emergency Vet clinics are a money pit. Partly because there is a high overhead in keeping 3 staffers on hand 24/7.

Years back we took our Lucky into a clinic after hours. She had gotten into the tin foil chocolates on the tree and was sick. We were charged $450 per 6 hour shift she was there. We took her out the very next morning due to the excessive cost and were threatened with being reported to the humane society for "failing to provide adequate care".

Our Vet, a traditional rural horse doctor, was appalled at the fees levied and the blackmail tactics. He set things straight with the clinic in short order and we heard nothing more.

  2. the only problem I have is when Skeeter and I go fishing and he had chili the night before.:oops: so never stand down wind from him...

You haven't been around after I've served up "road kill chili"

  3. It's great that we have the natural resources but it will only benefit us if the finished products can be made here...shipping raw diamonds, iron ore, logs etc will not help us much...The real value is in the finished product.....

Exactly. Without strong manufactures, Canada becomes nothing more than a third world economic pawn. Kind of like 19th century India and China under British control.

  4. Gramoxone is still an approved commercial herbicide in agricultural use.

I never reccommend any product to the public that requires certification. It still is only a contact herbicide. For systematic eradication you need heavier herbicides. None of those are available to the general public.

  5. You cannot bring wood from the GTA outside the quarantine zone folks. A lot of that crate and skid wood from Asia is untreated, and could spread more problems around your favourite getaway. My neice spent 6 months in Toronto doing inspections for Asian longhorn beetle. Amazing how many live specimens she would find in a week.

  6. Roundup was supposed to have been banned for public and commercial use by now.

An organic alternative. Pick a hot sunny day and spray the patches with vinegar. Burns the plants, and other unwanted weeds to a crisp ( does not work too well in the shade). Unfortunately it does not work on the root network. Most retail weed killers also fail in that regards.

  7. That has just darkened and saddened my day. I had a few very uplifting conversations with John this winter, when I really needed an emotional lift. His positive attitude and encouragement were just the ticket. He never let on he was not well.

He will be missed. My condolences to his family.

  8. Kind of impossible to budget, or save money, when prices spiral out of control in a mere 6 months, Fuel up 25%, and food will very soon follow suit. I see a nation with fewer people paying taxes and a lot more crime. A lot of people will have little other choice.
