  1. You took the words right out of my mouth. I've had all of my luck this year on either a 1/4oz chart/red hook jig and orange grub or the old faith full #5 mepps with black/red bucktail. I was out pike fishing yesterday and pulled in 5 pike. 2 of them were slowly swimming the jig/grub and the others on the mepps.
  2. I have stayed there 3 or 4 times and the fishing is very good. The guys from Fish TV just filmed there not too long ago. You can catch everything from largemouth, smallmouth, pike, muskie, walleye and even perch. We've always had good luck in the area. Lots of islands and rocks just below the surface so go slow the first few times just to be safe. I second the idea of asking for a cabin on the river. It's nice to go out and fire out some baits while everyone is sitting around the fire.
  3. Thanks for all of the tips everyone. I will take what i've learned and try to apply it this friday.
  4. As someone who has never fished for early season pike until this year I'd like to ask what is the key to landing early spring pike? When i went out 2 weeks ago i was slow rollin some spinnerbaits and had follow after follow but the only fish that would commit was a OOS largemouth. I'm heading back out this friday and was just curious as to what will make them commit to my presentation?
  5. I just recently bought a couple of spro bronzeye frogs. I haven't had a chance to throw them yet but as soon as I'm able to I will report back with the results.
  6. Thank you for all of your tips and advice. I will continue to look around the area for a nice, local bass hole. Hopefully by june 26th i will have heard of something.
  7. The reason i ask is because i like to go into a situation with an idea of what i'm doing and what i'm targeting.
  8. I figured there wouldn't be much opportunity for bass fishing up near Bolton but it never hurts to ask. There are so many people on this site with so much knowledge that I knew if there are fish to be caught up here in Bolton this would be the place to find out.
  9. Thanks for the info. Do you know if the humber holds smallies anywhere? Not that i'm going to fish for them yet but for future reference.
  10. Hello all. I drive over the Humber river in Bolton every day on my way to work and have always wondered if there is decent fishing there. Has anyone tried fishing the Humber up here near Bolton? What species are commonly found here?
  11. Seeing those pics of such nice looking bass makes me want to pack up the boat and start driving north till i get far enough that i can start bass fishing. June 26th seems so far away.
  12. This is some great advice. Thanks to everyone for the help. I'm always looking to learn more fishing skills.
  13. How would you even know if it is a legal fish or not if you don't take the time to measure it? I must be missing something but even the MNR would have to measure it to see if it is a keeper or not.
  14. Well I went fishing on Friday morning to see if I could pull in a pike or two. I went out with two friends and we fished for about 4 1/2 hrs. We got on the water at around 6:30am and starting working shallow weeds. Our first fish hit at around 8:40 and it was a small OOS bass. That bass was quickly unhooked and deposited back into the lake. About 1 hour later we managed to land one of our target species but it was a bit on the small side. I would guess around 18 inches. So all in all a slow day of fishing but one thing I can say is that I must have seen 8-10 decent looking fish. The would either follow or be swimming around near the boat and I could see them with my polarized glasses. Maybe when the water is a bit warmer those bigger fish will become more active. Water temp was 53 F.
  15. Fantastic. Thank you guys for the updates. Good thing I asked because we were planning on using one of the parks to launch the boat but if the narrows is good then we will throw it in there. Good luck with the crappie T Fisher. Do the pike usually stay in the northern part, southern part or just roam around the lake?
  16. Hi all. I'm looking to head out to Dalrymple next friday Pike fishing and was just wondering if that water level has gone up yet? Where would be the best place to launch from? Has anyone been out for pike yet?
  17. I just finished putting together my tube jig rod on saturday. I bought the 7'MH Carbonlite rod and just went out and picked up the Pflueger Surpreme 8035. The setup is very light and provides plently of strength. Also this Pflueger reel is extremely smooth. I've never spoken to someone who ownes one that complained about it. I can't wait to hit the water and put it to the test.
  18. Baptiste is a great lake also. Once a year my fishing buddies and I head to Elephant lake lodge. Usually once in the weekend we will take a trip over to Baptiste. So many different kinds of game fish available.
  19. I was using a white 1/4 oz jig with a white grub (curly tail cut off) and tipped with a minnow.
  20. Didn't have a camera on me. We were fishing in about 35-40 FOW.
  21. Mine is a 7' MH Basspro Rick Clunn crankbait baitcasting rod and Quantum energy burner reel. I use it for my spinnnerbaits and it works very well.
  22. So i just got back from fishing Paudash lake. We stayed at Anchorage resort and were shown around by our host Brian. He did a great job of informing us of what the lakers were hitting and how to use the different baits properly. The fishing was very tough and the bite was extremely light. If we were not holding our rods we would not even feel the fish hit. We ended up pulling in 2 lake trout that were in the slot and had to be released. Probably about 4 or 5 more fish were hooked and missed. Overall we had a great time and we will probably be calling up Brian again in the future.
  23. Thank you for the help. I hope we catch a few nice fish and just have an overall great time. Maybe before I go someone will chime in with some advice on what to use through the ice.
  24. Okay so there are a lot of rock bass. Any idea what else is in there? I have picked up a swedish pimple, williams ice jig, a rapala ice jig, a few airplane style jigs and i have a wide variety of jig heads and coloured hooks. Do you think this will work? Thanks for the help.
  25. Hello all. Myself and a group of friends are heading out to Paudash Lake on Feb 18th and was wondering if anyone has been out there ice fishing this year? Any tips? This will only be my second time ice fishing in my whole life and well the last was short on fish. Any information would be greatly appriciated.
