  1. Sounds like it was a blast! When I drive to work on the 401, I always think about how the NASCAR guys( and Gal )are driving more than 3 times my speed!! Just crazy to imagine. A nice birthday present.
  2. Thanks for the report Pidge. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself regardless of the disapointing results. I don't think drilling a hole outside your hut would have changed the results any as you're still in the same general area. Better luck next time and may you find the jumbos on your next trip up.
  3. Funny you mention about a boat Kemper, cuz I recently watched the Fishin' Canada boyz doing a carp show in their boat. They were fishing a warm water discharge at some plant near Toronto using a traditional carp presentation( corn on a hair rig ). I personally don't know anyone who fishes carp from a boat. though.
  4. Yup, our waterways and those in Europe are different to be sure, but the fish are the same. A carp's behavior and, therefore, our ways to catch them are similar. Whether European water or our waters here, carp tournaments can be run in similar ways due to the nature of the fish.
  5. Awesome post, Lorne. Although I've yet to participate in one of these, I most surely will in the upcoming season. Easy to see what a good bit of fun you can have in a day, with some bragging rights for the winner.
  6. These stories have got me crying, they're so funny!!!! I think there are enough great stories here to turn into a book! A great bathroom read, of course...
  7. Gotcha Mike. It's a gorgeous fish as is that hybrid you got yourself there. Some exotic stuff!
  8. Hey Mike, are you saying the fish you are pictured with there is a hybrid? Either way, it's a real beauty!
  9. Personally, I like the new look. The old one reminded me of my parent's rec room from the 70s.
  10. It wasn't real wood grain though. lol
  11. Hammer time! Congratulations Lorne and Happy New Year. That's a darn nice way to ring in the new!
  12. And to think aI was complaining 'bout the snow that fell yesterday here in Hamilton. I feel shame...
  13. Ah yes, those were the days. That big, giant 'C' arc and the rod just a pumpin with every head shake.
  14. I'm a member of the Carp Anglers Group( C.A.G. ). It's based out of the U.S. but lots of Canadian members in Provincial chapters.
  15. Ya, but Rich. Half the fun is buyin' all that stuff you don't really need! lol
  16. I like all the information in the arcticle about sustainability too. It's something that I never used to pay attention to( and I think alot of my generation is the same ). But my daughter and a lot of her friends seem to be more aware of sustainable seafood and make their choices accordingly. Always something to learn.
  17. LIPITOR ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...oh, and oysters. Oysters rock too.
  18. Love da oysters so nice to know they're good for ya! Actually, I was already aware of that. Last year, I bought an oyster shucker and took up the fine art. There are no oyster bars that I knew of in Hamilton( Burlington has a couple, though ), so I had to learn how to do it if I wanted to enjoy 'em. Pretty easy to, actually. Lots of instruction available on youtube.
  19. Wow, thanks for that Red. Intersting because by that CO's words, one would be able to catch and throw a Brown Trout to rot on the shore from Hamlton Harbour because the Consumption Guide says they are not safe to eat.
  20. Bowfishing was always something that I thought looked like a fun thing to try ever since I saw it on a fishing show. Although, I don't quite get the "killing it and leaving it on shore to rot" mindset. Unless of course you're talking about gobies. Now THAT would be a challenge! lol
  21. I have yet to crack the 30lbs mark this year. Actually, I just barely cracked 20! So congratulations to ya( again )Lorne.
  22. How are you fishing your worms HyperActive? I like to use a slip float because it aids in casting and lets me hit more runs on the big river, plus I can make quick adjustments for varying depths. Plastics work great too. Retrieving a twister tail grub or plastic shad on a light 1/8th ounce jig head will keep your presentation above the rocks and weeds and should get you into a few. Keep at it and good luck!
  23. What time were you fishing Grey Wolf? I've had my best bassin just before sun up and a few hours afterward.
  24. A real beauty there Rich. Must have been a thrill. I too am one of the guys who used to fish for 'em in the 80s and, as others have said, back then we thought they ran the rivers every 2nd year. I was never able to catch one that nice, though. WTG!
  25. Wow, that looks like a pretty good time down on your waterfront there Billy Bob!
