  1. I'm glad you did it or you would have 2000 forum members hen pecking you for who knows how long. I guess fishermen are as bad as nagging wives except it's not about getting the lawn mowed.
  2. Great storytelling. reads like a play by play. I used to use orange and yellow bobbers like those when i was young. Oh, to be back in those simpler days again...my biggest decision was deciding if i was going to use it yellow or orange side up. So we'll be seeing that vest in the next pictures? lol
  3. the pciture looks like a white to me too going by the spine count on the dorsal. nowhere near a world record but it could be the canadian as other pointed to. world record is 6# for black and 5+# for a white
  4. a call to the MNR might help? I don't think it'll be a record though, i'm pretty sure it's over 5lbs for a white. It could be a local record though, ontario maybe. great catch.
  5. I watched an interesting show on fishing with underwater cameras. Fish will hit anything if the conditions and presentation is right including clumps of dirt, weeds, sticks, ...anything. If you drag a bottle cap past them the right way, a fish will hit it and this video includes a huge segment on trout which we seem to consider smart or wary. Matching hatch is probably just as much bunk as the same fish will hit a glowing unnatural fire tiger pattern from the next fisherman. We see the same thing in our fish aquariums where they'll take anything into their mouth before deciding whether it's food or not.
  6. tape makes a mess IMO and it can still slip. Using a mono or dacron backing is the standard even for lines over 100#. gel spun lines do not hold certain common knots so you need to pick and choose the ones that do no slip. For example, the clinch knot, probably the most common knot, slips and comes undone.
  7. not so far from the real thing used in japan, but yours looks a little short.
  8. It's called a high draw test, you can't do it without the right equipment. Or taht's what the shop teacher called it..
  9. Like most have said, the braids are all noisy which is why most of the companies offer fusions. you might want to give that a try. Instead of being braided like a hair braid, the gel spun fibers are held together in a straightened bundles, sometimes with an outside covering. If i remember right, it was first made specifically to reduce noise. Plus- it's cheaper. Minus-it's a tiny bit fatter. For wear, gel spun lines will slice through the bail rollers on older reels so i don't recommend use on them at all. Most older spinning reels have chrome plated phosphor bronze rollers and these are useless for braids. Later on, they switched to ceramics, and now most use a hard material for their rollers along with a hard plating such as titanium nitride and these are all good to go. Most modern inserted rod guides are good to go. The only ones you have to worry about are the older wire guides, certain models of cheap guides with metal inserts like some Berkeley's. The new PacBay titanium plated wire guides and the very light RECoil solid titanium alloy wire guides will also groove and cut with gel spun lines..
  10. I've had some TDA's and various TDA based reels and i think the lockdown on them is 9# or 10#, like for most reels around that size. Since you generally set the drag to about 1/3 the breaking strength of the line, it should be okay for that carp. If i remember right, the TDA uses a nice 7 disc drag stack making it one of the smoothest around.
  11. I saw it on your list of dream reels. I too drool over all the JDM daiwas that don't make it to our market. You don't really see these except in Japanese retailers. This one is located in north america so now's your chance. http://cgi.ebay.com/DAIWA-JAPAN-MILLIONAIR...1QQcmdZViewItem
  12. sounds like an urban legend to me. Without any muscles for swimming or fins for control, the fish would not be able to get to the lure. I heard a similar story about pike when i was younger and I did the same to see if it would move in the water. My friend and i were so disappointed when it sunk to the bottom like any other fish carcass. I don't doubt the fish still has some functions left if is cleaned quickly, sorta like that guy on youtube with his leg shredded by a shark in 2' of water. Okay, it's nothing like that guy's leg...

  14. mostly it's from reloading websites like these. and constantly checking online store websites for deals. and the stacks of linux/bsd dvd images i download. It might be 24/7 fetish porn downloads. okay, only 1 of these is true. I know a few people who used to have roger's business lines at home to get the extra speed but this was a few years ago when they were 5Mbps lines, i think, now i'm happy with the 10Mbps. I don't understand why they keep increasing the speed without significant increases in bandwidth limits especially when everything on the internet is such high bandwidth now. ..like youtube and all those tv show websites where you can watch entire episodes of shows you missed. I'm not sure what Bell's limits are now but Rogers broadband limits are 60 and 95gigs. depending on which service you have. I think some early adopters of "extreme" have 100G. I'm like the other poster..i can use 10+Gigs on a good day so even 100G isn't enough.
  15. anybody else going to have to suck it up and pay the maximum $25+tax overage charge? That'll make my internet bill about $100/month. I had a bit of a shock when i opened the last bill and saw the $400 overage charge and forgot it didn't apply this month but this is the last month it'll be waived. With bell set up to do the same thing, there's no way around it this time and it won't surprise me if we see all the broadband resellers will do it soon.
  16. what was the reason he gave?
  17. Can't go wrong with words like bigger, more, and better when it comes to toys. The extra 5HP won't be missed. I don't know if a lot of peple here know this, but a lot of outboards close in size have the same engine that are tuned to different specs. On waterways where there are hp regulations, boaters often skirt around this by choosing carefully and de-spec'ing the engine.
  18. I was fishing a very popular fishing town a few years back and i started a nice conversation with a state local. He seemed very knowledgable about the best ways to get the fish if you're on a meat run. Then he showed me how quickly he can clean a fish...very good job too. And then he told me that dark meat under the skin is all piss and poop because thats where it gets filtered in fish the same way sharks go through the skin. Hahaha. It was hard to believe anything he said after that.
  19. This has become like The Mole.
  20. ifj it is the starter pinion, there won't be any mechanical clicking/knocking when he tries to start, maybe just a quieter click from a bit of play. that's another reason i asked if it clicks every time he tries the electric start. or if it's just one shot and that was it indicating the solenoid is working or not..
  21. Vanish has had a problem with brittleness more so than the other FC lines. ...which is one of the the main reasons so many FC line makers concentrated on the hybrid/co-polymer FC products for the first few years. The other reason is pure FC line was so expensive that nobody wanted to try it. I'm pretty sure Vanish has been discontinued or it will be soon becasuse Berkely just came out with a a new FC which claims to be better. It's also in the gold box, it's a little pricey at the moment but it's also 100% FC line. Apparently Cabela's FC line is good and inexpensive. I've never tried it myself but it gets good reviews for knot strength and not as brittle. I only know it they have one because it comes up in a lot of FC talks. I don't know who makes it for them. I think it's called Tri something.
  22. It could be hydraulic lock if this is the first time starting it this year after storage or you put fogging oil directly into the cylinder through the spark plug opening. Or the outboard has been laying on its side...but if it's been on the boat for a while, any excess oil should drain down past the rings. This can also be caused by crazy amount of fuel flooding or if the engine has been submerged in water. heh. but in normal running position, it should draiin down also. If it only clicks one time only when you try to start and never tries to start again, it could be a bad connection and changing the battery simply wiggled things enough to make it happen. the click is the solenoid and it should click every time you try.
  23. Is it me or does this forum have huge lags sometimes? It lags on server requests or i get no response at all quite frequently..i would say they're less than 2-3 days apart for me. If this is on a dedicated or co-located system, it might be time to upgrade or find a new host. I'm guessing that's what caused the duplicate post that just went up and it's happened to me before too.
  24. Hhaha. I didn't even make the connection in the name. Do you ever take pictures of the completed rods?
  25. Quite a few nice fish for the day. Not much you can do about guys like that, in popular waters. Or you can do what i do...pretend i'm doing something while drift in closer to them and blast out of there. not much you can do against deep trollers There are a lot of dumbasses who do the fast fly-by passes in wide open water too...a lot of people don't realize they probably saw you pull in fish and marked the spot as they went by. it would be so funny to have a forum category with stories and photos of butt heads.
