I was at Grimsby Tackle the other day and the young man there said Port Weller over to the Niagara Bar. Look for bait on the specific day as they will be right under the bait.. A friend of mine has been jigging up Salmon over on the Canadian side of the Bar for the last month. That would be a fun way to get them as they will be getting bigger and stronger this time of year. Usually this time of year you would see the salmon moving stateside around now.

The rod is sold.

I've got an 8 foot Airrus 457 Co Matrix (actually Sirrus before trademark infringement made them change the name) It's 8' 12-30lb and 1/2oz to 1 3/8oz lure rating. You would think it's a broomstick but it is my walleye trolling rod in my 'toon. I catch walleyes, smallmouth and even on occasion chinnies with it. It's so forgiving it's not funny. Ken Whiting gave it to me and I've been looking to find another for years. At one time I had 3 of them but i foolishly sold the casting versions because the reelseat was not up to salmon fishing. The reel would literally pop off the rod with a salmon on. The blank is truly amazing on Co Matricx 457's. Buy it if you ever see one for sale.

Every time i watch Bob Izumi throw them he breaks them off so i guess he's using light line too. If I owned an expensive lure company i would have instructions to use 4lb line. The lure will get bit for sure AND there will be lots of lost lures. Create demand and fulfill sales quotas in one recommendation lol. The Mega Bass and Jackal guys do the same thing for even more expensive lures. Lots of their rods, including baitcasters are for unusually low line weights as well. Highly conditioned bass in Japan one assumes. My spybait is a very realistic lure but i wonder what the fish thinks the props on it represent,

I bought a Duo Realis spybait at the swap meet. I've never tried one but I've seen TV anglers say they work when little else will. Going to give it a try this summer.

I get them directly from Japan. Even there the Worming Crank Shots are hard to find. There is a guy who has some on Ebay. He lives in Toronto but he forces you to buy through EBay itself. He also has Eco Gears. Dave Chong, on here, has some Norries but not Worming Crank Shots. I saw them at his booth at the Hamilton Swap Meet last week. A couple of big cranks and some small jerk baits. He will be at the Toronto Swap meet I'm sure. I cannot vouch for those particular lures but i will say everything I've used from Norries has worked at least somewhat They are expensive but today everything is pricey. I live down the street from Bass Pro in St Catherines and there, a J13 is $18 and a Williams Whitefish is $19. Most lures are at least $10, most are more. At the swap meet spoons were going for a max of $5 and lots for a dollar or two. I bought lots of mint Japanese hardbaits for between $5 and max $7.50. Good ones that work for sure too. My buddy bagged a 9' St Croix Avid rod that was near new for $150. St Croix does not even make them anymore so it was a great deal. It was my buddies first time at the swap meet and he also won a brand new Shimano rod worth about $150. He's now a swap meet enthusiast.

It's not just Salmon check the Steelhead this guy bags at 13 minutes into the video. BIGGG. It's interesting how those guys bottom bounce, they call it drifting, with slider weights and a bait cast rod in fast moving rivers. I've know about sliding weight setups but i'd never seen someone actually use them, in this case very successfully.

This happened last December Facebook It was a natural fish. There was a video of her actually catching the fish but no shot of the real thing. She and her husband have both caught multiple giant salmon of this class so they know where the big ones are and how to catch them

I stand corrected on Lymans. Those kits ARE cedar plugs. that's good news for fisherman and very bad news for guys that hoarded original Lymans and were asking $30 a piece for them. Now we have to find the convicts that used to paint them up to get tips on what colours work best.

I believe "NEW" Lymans are plastic not wood. That would make them J-Plugs not Lymans IMO. I have a plastic salmon plug that is like a J Plug but is made by the same company that makes Moonshine spoons. It glows like crazy but I have never caught anything with it. In that type of circumstance I have more confidence in the Lyman than a Tomic, Moonshine, J=Plug etc. The interest in the Boon Castanas was in the colour scheme, size (3"-31/2") and the the $4 price tag. Something I learned this year from a buddy was that sometimes if the salmon are off on bigger lures like J-13s then a J13 with the back half removed is the ticket. It still dives and wiggles like a jointed J 13 but without the back half there's a smaller profile, so it's finesse. T o make one for yourself you have to destroy the back half of the J13 but if you find them floating down the river like I do you don't mind cutting the back end off of a few because they are the ticket sometimes.

I use Lymans and Tomics casting with a straight retrieve and sometimes it's the only thing they will take. i use a clip to attach to the line, an "O" ring or straight tie does not work as well. A Rapala knot would also work well I'm sure. Lots of anglers out west use plugs like Lyman on trolling weights with success. They definitly wobble with a great deal of back and forth movement, it's what makes them work on sulky chinooks. That movement is what you look for in a good hot shoting lure like a Hot Shot, Kwikie, Hot-n-tot or Wiggle Wart.

I have an Avid baitcast floatrod that has been used once. It is so mint that if you had a price sticker you could sell it at a retail store. It's an ML so rated 6-10lb line. It is a great rod for long casts fishing larger flows like the Saugeen or Niagara, $240 Firm. Also a brand new never used Abu Veritas spin rod Medium rated 8-12lb line. Here's another page view that shows them better Castana™ : Boone Bait Co. The Red Fire or Yellow Fire look very salmon friendly to me. I might even pay the outrageous $20 price for an actual Lyman in that colour scheme

I saw these on a fishing website I've used in the past. Not really a brand i know. they look a lot like Lymans , or J plugs or Tomics but i have never heard of them for Salmon. Brand New 8'3" Abu Garcia Veritas spin rod. Medium rated 6-12lb. this is a one piece rod that telescopes down to 7' so it can be stored in the rod locker of a boat. I have 1 Avid steelhead rod that is getting no use by me. , virtually brand new. The casting rod has been out once . I just don't get any use out of long steelhead rods anymore as I fish 99% of the time in my Hobie 'toon. the rod would be a fine Xmas gift as its mint. As you may know these rods are no longer made as it seems St Croix has abandoned steelhead rods altogether. $240 each Sorry no pics as I don't even have a cell phone anymore. I see that Jack Dorsey is now heavily involved in a new one since dropping out as the boss of Twitter. I suppose his entry means something for investors but, for me, when i look at him I see a fellow who looks like he sleeps under an overpass in the rough. Add to that his background with Twitter, the place idiots go to destroy their careers, i realize what a disgraceful quagmire investing has become. It can't last and another huge collapse must be on the horizon where all of this nonsense will fleece the little guy and our politicians will bail out the big players. It is a recurring story of Wall/Bay Street that we don't seem to be able to grow out of.

It's a sophisticated method of removing money from saps. It's like I was told early on, them's for sellin' not for buyin'.

I'm betting a real Loomis IMX custom float rod has a value that is hard to calculate in a consumer products insurance settlement. Best to keep those pieces under your pillow, inside of your locked bedroom that's guarded by a Rottweiler, no a mountain lion, lol.
