Had a membership at Dairydale for years, back in the 80,s and also golfed Erin. You got some great little streams in your area.I did very well in the Grandvalley area. Use to walk for miles.
Have a great weekend fishing.
I use to have a real nice tie set up. Then came this portable orange box. I went with just putting the eggs on the mess/scarf and tying by hand. Spider thread is awesome.
ch312. I know you are one of the more educated hunters here,I would like to ask.would breasting a bird, not be against the law as far as wasting meat or your kill ? I know many that breast ducks and geese aswell, but to me,they are wasteing thier kill.
Like you say, they are lazy,as far as I am concerned.
If they are just taking the breast,IMO, they are wasting the bird. I got my first and did it the same way I do a goose. Skinned the whole bird. I found the turkey to be much easier. Lots of meat on them legs.
John I have the breast part left, just put it in the freezer. If you like, I would be more then thankful to have you smoke it.
Let me know.
BTW ,Just had a taste of the legs before the vegies are ready,it is AWESOME.
Thanks again Mike.
Like the others, it gives no DEFINATIVE boundry. I google satilited the area,no way up to date as there is new homes built there. Hoped to find something but not 100% sure. No worries,Monday I,ll get the right answer.
Looking at that map, it would be a NO,but I know last year while archury hunting deer(same area),there were guys hunting ducks and geese in the fields.
Guess I,ll play it safe til monday and use the bow. Heck I might even try that fishing thing,I did after all,buy a lic today . Caught up in all the excitement.LOL
Thanks Bud.
With new laws passed with allowing hunting on sundays with a gun,is turkey on the list?Im in 76.
I looked and nowhere does it say you can or cannot?
Yes Im pumped.LOL
To me it,s not important, as I will go with the crossbow.
The bird is bigger then it looks. I couldnt get it to fit in the big roaster, legs to long.So I am cooking up the 2 legs and neck for tonight and the rest Im going to split and cook on the BBQ later.
Got my 2nd tag. Ready to go at it again.
Thanks gang.
I like to mention I did it without using a decoy. Read the last edition of OOD and there was some good advise in it. One was not using a decoy as a bird can become more weiry entering the area.
Early plans were to head to Irish,s place and hunt with Carp, but I missed the alarm(probly due to the 11:15 pm wake up call by carp).LOL
So I headed to my spot again. After yesturday, I had no worries those guys would be back. I set up in the same spot and await the sun to start it,s rise. All was pretty quiet. No fly downs,no clucking, not even a gobble. I start yellping and clucking with the call, but nothing .So I just sit back and enjoy the sunrise and wait to see what happens. I catch a movement in the distance,it,s a well groomed fox. Probly looking for yesturdays remains. As I lay back against the tree,I hear this very shot gobble. Am I hearing things? I wait then give a yelp. Gobble return. Ok theres one in the area. For a half hour we talk turkey, and the gobble gets closer. Then there was two gobbles. Yes two bird, the whole herm is coming.
I keep putt,n and yelping and they keep on gobbling back, both of them. The they appeared. Right out from the middle of the treeline. Two gobblers just gobbling away. At first I couldnt see any beards on either one of them . I say what, thier gobbling, got to be males.LOL Then they both turn almost at the same time and there they were. Two short beards on the both of them. Two young fellas looking for that single lonely hen . I just keep up the clucking and they are making a beeline for me. Both are about 35 yards away when they split and I take the one on the right down. Dropped him on a dime. I give the ol fist pump and run out to the bird. Looked like a ball of feathers.
Well I got my first bird and now Im off to get another tag so I can work on getting one for the land owner.
My wings to get to heaven.HAHA
Ready for the roaster
Glad yesturday did not deter me from getting back out.
Thanks for reading.
