i enjoy fishing with a select couple of friends... ie the ones who will stay out there all day and not have other plans set for later in the day and then we have to leave. I tend to meet those other guys at the river and they can leave at will. I also LOVE fishing with my little girl now that she is old enough to sit there. lol Solo fishing is what i love the most though. I feel connected to God's creation and i also notice that my ADDHD does not seem to flare up so bad when i am watching a float! lol splashhopper

Umm... there is a great CARP river in St Thomas! just ask my little daughter, Botbot, she caught a 25lb one there on her first day fishing ever. ( see a pic on the post " my daughters first time fishing")
-
umm... maybe read what I put in brackets>> "Now lets take a look at estimated rates/hour for the following (self employed with all its associated risks): Auto mechanics - Plumbers and Electricians - Heat and Air con guys - Carpenters - Tile setters " ... BIG difference in risk and costs for self employed trades was my point. ie: no guaranteed paycheck at end of week... usually no benefits...Fully self paid retirement... pays own business and disability insurance... not entitled to Unemployment Insurance benefits in slow times... can be difficult getting mortgages and auto loans etc. Splashhopper

Stoty: Let me stand up for the charter guys here. ( and i am NOT an investor in a charter company either! lol) I am NOT sure you DO "get it". You signature on your posts suggest that you are web developer. Do u own your own business too then? And if so, let's take a flying guess here on YOUR rates as a web developer: $75.00/hr? Not very far off $350.00 divided by four hours now is it? Now lets take a look at estimated rates/hour for the following (self employed with all its associated risks): Auto mechanics - Plumbers and Electricians - Heat and Air con guys - Carpenters - Tile setters About $75/hour on average. Keep on tipping these guys.. they make our lives better and they are about as appreciated,by some, as the FULL TIME DISHWASHER at a fine dining restaurant. ( No disrespect to the dishwashers either) God bless the GOOD charter captains and their crews. Splashhopper

Goby? they want the kids to catch the GOBY! I was thinking of an OFC tournament to put "some faces to the names". Splashhopper

Great pics... I am open to helping with some kind of prizes for all the kids too. splashhopper

That would have been a good start for us, however, my daughter ( 10 yr old) is in a Taekwondo tournament in Toronto that weekend. (Patterns only, due to her broken bone in her hand yet). .......... As for a location, we are open to both the Long Point and the Hamilton location. If we get some families from the Toronto region,( BIG HINT TO CLIFF AND BLY AND FAMILY )location due to the driving times. Splashhopper and Botbot

As a small business owner myself, I don't think that rate is as great rate to "get paid to fish". Think about this: 1: cost of boat 2: cost of helper 3: boat insurance 4: business insurance and taxes 5: WSIB on employee 6: poles/ lines/lures/downriggers etc 7: dock fees 8: winter storage fees 9: some kind of wage for the owner 10: FUEL costs As for getting to actually "getting paid to fish": On the many charters that i have been on over the years with www.bluegoose.com (Barry Nash) i have NEVER seen the owner or his mate ever put a line in the water for themselves. They were focused on their customers and our desires. Now as for the actual QUESTION of the thread, we always tipped 10-15% direct to the captain and paid $2.00/fish for each one cleaned as well. I SKUNKED my daddy tonight. I got one carp and he only got some bites ! Botbot

ok,, how about we think of Port Dover for some Perch fishing? Maybe we can all put our own locations up and then get an idea of what makes sense to us all. I like the idea of "stuff to do" other than fishing for the little ones too. We are in London and are willing to travel up to 2 hours. Thanks Splashhopper and Botbot

Maybe some of the parents that have posted pics of them with their children could help us start up an annual OFC kids day some where? We would be willing to help start this from the London to Toronto area. ( and can also attend in the Markham-Oshawa area as well) Splashhopper and Botbot

Is there an OFC kids fishing day this summer? If so, when? If not, who else would be interested? splashhopper and daughter (Botbot= pretty little girl in Filipino>> pronounced like the word good good )
