"Better it's you there to answer those tough questions on some of the less pleasant and tough realities of life." I agree totally...

LOL... "There's a lot of other issues I have with the CBC, but you have a valid complaint TJ. Coaches Corner has a 7 second delay in case Grapes says something "offensive", but you and your kids get to hear what you did on the drive to school. Kinda sad." I won't let them listen to Cherry either... LOL (just kidding... don't sue me... lol) If a parent can't choose what thier kids see and hear why are there restricted ratings on movies... why don't we just let them show sadistic porn on tv without telling us its coming on. Im sure that happens in the real world somehwere as well! That my beef.. I don't insulate my kids from much... ask them!! ... and it isn't a NEWS program its a commentary on a decade old crime. (must have been a slow day today!)

Opinions don't upset me, and the arguemnt that kids need to know about the badness in the world is a fair and reasonable one and thats not what my complaint is about... as a parent it should be UP TO ME to decide when I want to explain to my ten year old daughter what a serial rapist is, its not up to the CBC to inflict that on her ears at 8:45 in the morning without letting listeners know its coming. The news is bad.. i understand that.., the world is a crappy place only cause thats all the media WANTS to cover. I'm not saying the news should only be good... and CTV and GLOBAL can do whatever thay want.. but CBC radio is FUNDED with OUR tax dollars, why don't they have to follow the same rules... You get fed on the news, exacly what the media DECIDES to feed you. A warning about content is NOT censorship.

Don't get me wrong... its not that I want to insulate my kids from whats happening in the world.. the news is constantly on at home, and can I effect what the CBC covers ... no.. I generally don't insulate my kids from much, any one who knows me know that my kids get to see alot.. we travel alot and i dont hold my opinions from them.. My problemo is with the cbc being a publicly funded entity and not warning listeners about upcoming programming. I dont let my kids watch most law and orders and csi's cause they are gruesome and totally non-realistic. THERE ARE WARNINGS BEFORE THESES SHOWS (I like them though) I know when these programs are coming on and I can tell the kids to do something else. But I think the CBC should have the same mandate as the TV stations and at least give some sort of warning that they are gonna be talking about serial rapists and underage sex workers.. I think thats only fair. I think that most people who say "well the news is the news" don't have young kids....

(Come on Spring LOL ) I never complain... and after 7 years of running this board, I am usually fixing things for others complaints, but on the way to school this morning I blew my top.... and I actually complianed for once... here's my email to the CBC.... any comments... am I out of line?? ---------------------------- Dear CBC: I'm emailing today (and I never complain...) to express my disgust at the latest programming on CBC's The Current. Every morning I drive my kids to school and we listen to the Morning North Show out of Sudbury, Ontario, and then we get the first few minutes of the Current. I have been listening to the program for years and I find it better and more educational for my children if we listen to the news and some informative programming in the morning, rather than the top 40 radio station. Maybe its just me but, I have found that lately the news coverage on the current has been so gruesome... ie todays first line was something to the effect of "its been twelve years since Jane Doe was attacked by a serial rapist" which lead to my explanation to my 10 year old daughter as to what a serial rapist was. I understand the need (or maybe I don't) for the CBC to follow sensational stories and present the news in a very graphic way. I just wish that maybe once in awhile there was something a little more upbeat on the program as its gets depressing to listen to the bad news every day. It give your younger listeners the impression that the world is a pile of crap. When I watch TV at night every episode of Law and Order, CSI and half of everything on prime time etal.. has a warning to parents the the material may be unsuitable. Why is it that there is no warning on the CBC that would advise me when the material they are about to cover isn't for younger listeners ears??? Seems unfair to me.. I feel saddened that right at the point that my kids are able to start learning from these broadcasts and appreciate talk radio I'm gonna have to turn it off after the local Morning North broadcast cause I'm afraid the coverage on a publicly funded radio show WILL be too graphic for my kids to listen to. If there are rules for TV.. why do these do these same rules not apply to radio?? I look forward to your form letter response.

This is one of the reasons we allow non fishing posts .. so you can get a variety of information on other topics from people you know and trust... Here my question.. we weren't gonna go anywhere at the end of our busy season this year and we were gonna save our pennies for RRSP and Camp Construction... then some personal issues arose and we were reminded about how short life can be... so weve decided to do our trip after all. Normally we fly outta Toronto and this entails driving/motel/parking etc... and adds at least $200 -$300 to the overall cost of our trip. Because our schedule is "flexible" we usualy take advantage of the last min specials available, and now some of these companies are flying out of Sudbury which is great! This should sae us both time and $$. The only two destinations available though are Cayo Coco and Varadaro. Has anyone been to BOTH?? Anyone been to any?? You can answer here or PM me if ya like.. any help would be appreciated!!

Ok... well here goes... from my perspective... cause I know that some of the guys I was with Lurk here.. so remember this is from MY northern spoiled perspective. A few years back, I'm invited to go fishing with this bunch of boys from south of Barrie somewhere.. some place named after Catherine the great or something... anyway up they come for a weekend on the west arm and I go meet them and bunk in... we have a great time and out we go fishing... cause I live here I'm sposed to be the guide.. LOL.. (fooled them) So away we go.. trolling my favorite spots.. cause I won't still fish and we start getting these smaller pike... so were hooking them and I'm tossing them back till we get something bigger and they are looking at me like I'm NUTS.. After a while, one of em asks me why I'm throwing them back.. and I say there a bit small.. and they say... well they are bigger than what we normally catch... so I starts a keeping them. Nothing else is biting.. and its pre bass/musky season.. (and I couldn't pickeral fish my way outta of a wet paper bag) By the next day or so, we have got at least two dozen of the little beauties and I go down to the cleaning shack and start cleaning them... well I had some help (yes you Al) and as I'm about to throw the first head away.. Al stops me and says"What are ya doing... we eat those too!" OK.. anybody who knows me knows I'm open minded so I say "OK.. lets giver a whirl." When we were done we had a monster plate of fish which I proceeded to fry up for them there was at least a dozen guys and we ate well... when were done Al says Time for the heads.... Up to the camp he goes and grabs all the heads... put them on a batch of tin foil, piles them up like they are a pyramid, crushes a lemon on top, and throws in the lemon and some cut up onion I think, and then twists the thing up till it looks like a big Hershey's kiss... He throws this on the coals of the fire and we sit until theres steam coming outta the top. He takes it off and there go the boys peeling the meat outta the foreheads and cheeks and generally chowing down. I had one or two and to be honest it was just fine, it was at this point that I said if they were willing to go this far to eat them fish I didn't mind keeping the small ones... One of the days when I got some real city dudes around.. I'm gonna duplicate this event and freak them right out. Everytime I think about this story I always say "Bravo" .. to those dudes...

Pike can be great to eat DEPENDING on where they come from.... Its funny cause Ive never ate pickerel that I didn't like, but some real warm water pike can be a bit fishy... Cold water pike are generally really good, especially if they come from cold water lakes that have trout like Temagami etc. If they are fishy you can prepare them like I do.. and make "Popcorn Pike" outta them.. same recipe as normal just smaller bite sized chunck. Done correctly its all good... don't make me tell you about the pike-head eating episode....

Two people ... and I can have anybody.. well it would be God and Allah.... just to see if one or two people showed up... LOL.. honestly on this earth, If I could pick someone to fish with and pick their brains it would be Howard Stern and Bill Clinton... They both fish (believe it or not) and I would like to hear some tales... Al Gore and Hillary could come too I guess, but they'd have to sit quiet...

I understand what largemouth is saying, and I dont think hes being vindictive about it.. there is alot of non-fishing posts here and thats ok.. thats why we changed the name to OFCcommunity.... In any event, we also have alot of better moderation features with this new software so we dont wind up with as many difficulties as the past.. I hope that largemouth would give us another chance and help us with more fishing reports to help with that!
