Yes I know the place; the house and the greasy spoon. You must know my nephew; he grew up just past the cemetery behind the restaurant and would be about your age. Darren Little is his name (I married his mom’s sister). I graduated AH&VS as well (in 1979 or 80) before going to Mohawk, then Brock. I guess I’ll shut up before we have to label this “NF”

Had My Car Stolen From My Work Today !!!

Was that during a lunch period? Cause if not, the attendance sheets could come in handy for that period. Or who was there for period 1,2 and 3 but not the rest of the day, that sort of thing. I'm sure the VP is all over it. Good luck. -
There is a Metal Supermarket in Stoney Creek (Grays road I think). Lincoln had some great deals at the sportsman show. Did you get your welder there by chance?

At the risk of sounding like a dope, why the Floro leader (in any circumstance, cause I seem to hear it a lot)?

Hi all, Hey, are those “Bearing Buddies” things worth the price? I think that they’re around $20 each, should I have them thrown on before I pick my boat up? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

First of all, thanks as usual for the great advice. I was originally looking at cottage resorts as I figured that they might be more reasonable as with more than one cottage, they might not have to charge as much. What I am finding is quite the opposite. The nickel and diming for everything annoys me. I realize that you have to make hay while the sun shines, but damn man! Why would I pay $10.00 to launch and recover my boat at the resort? I mean it’s not like the ramp costs money, it just sits there used or not. What ever happened to providing your guest/customer with a service? Not having to go off site to launch your boat should be a value added thing, not a source of income (charge outsiders, fine, but not your guests). I have found some lovely single privately owned cottages that are very reasonable and the best part is that there are no extras! (www.cottagelink.com). And, there are some very reasonable places. People looking to help with the mortgage/expenses as opposed to gouging for all they are worth, or it being the primary source of income. I found another interesting thing in that a lot of the cottage resorts will not take credit or debit cards. I know retailers that accept cards pay for the service and that is why resort owners might shy away. The thing is that I have a problem with a place that charges me tax on anything that they don’t accept cards for (I won’t buy a pizza with cash). No paper trail = no income reporting = me paying 13% that is likely not getting passed on. Thanks again.

What about ten minutes south of you in Caledonia?

First of all I would like to say I hope you are better at picking boats than you are at picking hockey teams. Secondly, regarding insurance, my boat is insured through my house insurance (as an extra); I don't need on the water insurance as well do I?

Hi Guys and Gals, I have a cottage rental question. I was looking into a cottage resort on Clear Lake (apparently it has a “Clearview”) and a couple of things jumped out at me and I wondered if they are standard for the territory or not. The price for a 2 bedroom cottage jumps almost $300 in the high season (from $670 to $940), there is an extra $75 charge per week for a lakefront cottage, and to dock your boat while you stay is $12 per day. Are these standard costs as far as you can tell? Any thoughts are appreciated as always. Jim

He looks like a happy camper! Great pictures, and great time with dad.

Welcome aboard Slashhopper! It sounds like you’ve carved out a nice existence for yourself. As a 13.7 handicapper let me offer this tidbit; there are loads of bad days on the golf course, in fact you can make an argument that everyday you don’t birdie every hole, is a bad day. But there is no such thing as a bad day of fishing. They just don’t happen. You are going to love this group. Jim

Sorry if I have missed this somewhere in the strand, but what about the drive time? Rice and Stoney are considerably closer than Nippissing. Also I agree with the things to do for kids factor weighing heavily in the favour of Stoney and Rice.

CCM, did you get the boat off of a Kajiji site? It looks familiar from when I was looking earlier.

While my wife thinks I've lost it for spending so much time here, I think she's glad that she doesn't hear "click, click, click, click, click, click," anymore every time she comes up stairs.

Well at least we know why you're called "LundGuy" This is my new boat, a 1600 Fish Hawk SC. I am pretty much a catch as catch can kind of guy. But love the north (or near north I guess) and the typical Northern Ontario fishing. I am really looking forward to the start of the season. Jim

I figure if I have to drive to work everyday regardless of the price, I will go on vacation regardless of the price. That being said, the price of gas figures heavily into my everyday shopping plans (as anyone who read my post on Sportsman Show coupons will attest). I will pay more and buy in my home town, than drive twenty minutes to save $5. It is also why mail order is looking better and better all the time.

Does it make me “politically correct” if I think that most of these statements are at worst racism and at the absolute best, extremely intolerant. An amazing thing happens when you quit looking at other groups of people for the source of your problems: Inner peace. I’m with kickingfrog “come on spring”

Alright, so my post might have been a little cheeky. I think the future doesn’t look good though, when the company the article is about is already mentioning manufacturing in India as a future goal. I also have never thought of Calgary as being a hotbed of surplus skilled tradesmen, or Victoria for that matter. Anyway enough pontificating; I too am an aviation guy! An EAA member and am currently teaching a manufacturing course based on aviation at my high school (I will drop the segment on Type Certificates from the program . We are building a ½ scale Bowers Fly Baby as our go to project and the plane is coming along nicely. The kids are enjoying it and I am doing my best to convert a couple of “I wanna be a car mechanic” types to “wow! look at all of the careers in aviation!” types. I am looking for guest speakers Irishfield. You could land a J3 on our football field and write the whole trip off as a business expense.

Is anyone here old enough to remember Red Fisher and Scuttlebut Lodge? Damn, I wanted one of those books of poems!

The fishing show rant from earlier got me thinking about what makes a good fishing show. I personally tire of seeing guys setting hooks and yanking fish into boats (and acting like every fish is a greater thrill than child birth). I would rather have them talk more about structure, why they are fishing where they are, etc. Perhaps the use of graphics to show what the floor looks like where they are fishing (at the very least, show me what the sonar is saying), or where they are in relation to a point or bay (like an overhead shot saying we are here, the wind is coming from here, we are casting into here. Think telestater). What makes a good show to you?
